Score from 23 reviews Wonderful
large room and bathroom, spotlessly clean - good for business or leisure travel
I liked the location
Wifi was poor. Room very small. Difficult to communicate with the staff who did not seem to understand.
Nice hotel. We got a free upgrade when checking in. Room was soacious big bed and bathroom. We loved the pool
It seems cab drivers find it difficult to find the place Drinks in the club of The hotel were very expensive (8-9 euro for a bottle of Bear)
I travelled with my mother who is less mobile and was able to borrow a wheel chair from the hotel- this is great and both my mother and I are very appreciative of this. Also excellent is the buggy service for my mother to access Sofitel and other establishments in the vicinity od Grand Mercure. This is excellent indeed. Staff were courteous and helpful but the language barrier can be a challenge. However, with patience on both sides, things turned out well.
The room lights- very dim and the room gets very dark and gloomy even if it is sunny outside. The buffet breakfast menu can be better with more cheese selection and vegetarian selection for those who do not take meat.
The place was clean and comfortable. Staff were attentive.
Musty smell in hallway(from smokers I think).
The staff were very helpful. The room although a little smaller than expected was great. The bed was wonderful. Unusual situation with other hotels on the square where we shared facilities but it worked well.
Bedrooms could do with improved lighting - lots of lights but very dim.
The facility, service, quality breakfast and cleanliness are excellent.
Check in was great, really good service
Beds a little hard
the position and surrounding
The old decoration the terrible smell in the room high price for very old hotel
Location - walking distance from train station and Bell/Drum towers. Great choice of breakfast Good size room Helpful staff
Felt a little bit too 'business-like' for a holiday visit Beware of rude taxi drivers outside Renmin Square - refuse to take you anywhere unless it's long distance
Ok hotel, good location, good rates.
Had high expectations based on Booking.com rating and reviews, those were not met. Hotel is ok but certainly not great. Room small and dark, out back with noisy street outside, style very 70ies and furniture, carpet, fittings VERY worn and in need of refurbishment. Reception personal was mostly not very friendly.
Very nice place. Excellent breakfast.
No modest priced choices for an evening meal either in the complex or nearby.
Fantastic location, staff and concierge are second to none. Cleaning staff incredibly quick with sorting requests.
Room was a lot smaller than expected/advertised which was a shame. Although we spent little time at the hotel the cleaning staff would knock on the door far too much, disturbing sleep in the AM and disturbing at bizarre times PM. WiFi was very hit and miss
Breakfast was very good. Also, when my daughter broke her arm slipping over at the pool, the staff at the grand mercure were incredibly helpful and kind. They sent the hotel dr to see us within 5 mins and then sent 'Jim' the porter(?) with us to the hospital, who streamlined everything with his excellent english and knowledge. they sent up room service as we'd not had time to eat, and called to check how things were etc. if you have to use the emergency department during your vacation then this is good place to be staying!
Our room smelt of stale cigarette smoke even though we asked for a non smoking room? Facilities weren't what we expected, having to go across to the neighboring Sofitel to use the pool, gym and restaurants, but they were all very good.
This hotel is in desperate need of a renovation, and the hallways and room smelled like mold. But the worst part was definitely the staff. My wife and I asked the front desk what the best way to see the terra cotta warriors would be as part of our stay. After initially seeming annoyed by the question, we were told to take a bus. After pressing the employee for which bus to take and how frequently they ran, it quickly became clear that she either had no idea or had no interest in telling us. After some more pressing, the hotel manager intervened and suggested that we hire a taxi. The driver spoke no English, so before we left the hotel, I asked the hotel manager how we would find the driver when we were ready to return to the hotel. He initially evaded the question, but then assured us that the driver would wait for us at the entrance. When we arrived at the warriors, the driver pulled into a neighborhood some distance away with the entrance completely out of sight. We tried to gesture and communicate to ask how to get to the entrance until, conveniently, an English speaking “tour guide” arrived offering to lead us to entrance and back to the car. It was fairly clear that if we declined the guided tour there was a very real chance that 1) we would not be able to find our way back to the taxi (assuming we found our way to the warriors at all) and 2) that the driver would not be there if we found our way back. Feeling extorted, we agreed to a tour. The tour was very rushed, except for at every overpriced gift shop along the way. Our “guide” got visibly angry and overtly aggressive when we told him that we would buy a souvenir from one of the many gift shops outside of the front gate, rather than from his preferred vendor. Needless to say, our visit to an important cultural site was ruined. When we arrived back at the hotel, we paid the driver and were greeted again by the hotel manager.
This hotel is situated in a quiet area along with another hotel. Great value for money and good breakfasts. Would have liked to stay longer.
Hotel facilities and location were what we excellent.
One of the reception staff was quite rude and not very friendly
Good value for money
15 min walk to city centre slightly outdated
Comfort, great breakfast (coffee ok) V helpful and efficient concierge, who helped us with all transfers Large and comfortable room
difficult to find first time with Taxi, as they know SOFITEL, but not Grand Mercure!
It may be because we were upgraded to a suite, but this hotel, the location, food, car service, service and amenities were great. Xian was a great city, we loved it just wish we had stayed longer. No communication issues, the desk and assistant manager made our stay fabulous.
Clean, nice friendly staff
Swimming pool was in another building
The hotel was clean and in a good location. (Most) of the members of staff were friendly.
This hotel was great but the only downside was the organisation of a day trip we took to the Terracotta warriors. As we were only there for two days we asked them to help us organise a tour. Unfortunately our guide (who i should mention didnt work at the hotel) turned out to be a thief. So i would say beware of the tour guides the hotel set you up with. Other than that the hotel was good.
Comfortable hotel in a good central location. Helpful reception staff.
Fairly small room. Lighting control overly complex. Slightly miserable restaurant staff at breakfast.
