The romance of a courtyard hotel which is so well restored, it's living history, unlike the sterile Firbidden City. My roommate was sick, so had to skip the latter. I told her she's not missing out if she'll spend her time enjoying our hotel. My 4 other friends who were staying at Han's agreed, after visiting the F. city. Staff were so friendly, so was the room rate for a hotel of this calibre.
It is difficult to get a taxi from this location. You must walk 5min to the main street and then hail a taxi. It doesn't have an active restaurant. We would have been the only ones dining the night we wanted to stay in the hotel for dinner.....They advertise "Western & Chinese" but in fact, there is only Chinese. We went to the pedestrian street and had our breakfast and dinners.
This hotel is beautiful, historical, and gracious. You feel like you are in a dynasty period property. It is not your urban chic up-to-date-modern property. We loved it for what it represented, a majestic Hutong. The court yards are delightful. It is a place to drink tea, have a nightcap....wonderful! You can walk 4 blocks to a lively pedestrian street and find coffee houses, many casual restaurants, (for pizza, etc) and plenty of cute shops...all along hutong streets. The front desk staff is young, friendly, and tries to help answer your questions.
This hotel is in a great location in the Hutongs of Beijing and close to a station. You can easily walk to sites like Ghost Street and the Drum Tower. The Forbidden City and Tian'anmen Square are close by. The hotel is quiet but in a lively area.
The street by the hotel is very constricted and hard to find - you may need to walk 25m on foot with luggage. The rooms are v poorly maintained. Once plush, ceilings have chipped paint, a shower with nasty curtains that forced water onto the floor, carpets that needed replacing. The breakfast was wholly inadequate both for Western and Asian customers. Food warmers and toasting machine switched off - empty pans. It isn't cheap & better was available in the streets. Not the staff's fault: no less than 3 smiling lovely chefs supervised cooking an omelette, the only Western option other than somewhat stale pastries and cereal. This is not a cheap option hotel but is living on its old world reputation. Managers need to realise that Beijing has very good designer boutique options for less.
The interiors are lovely, real old china charm and real antiques and traditional courtyards. Quiet despite being close to the funky 'Covent Garden-like' Hutongs. Staff a complete delight, from the door boys to the reception, very friendly and welcoming and helpful. Metro a ten minute walk and very handy.
Some of the breakfast items were stale and not high quality food. Lots of eating options nearby. The bedrooms are comfortable and clean but a bit dated in their decor and musty. Still worth the stay.
The location and historical ambience of the hotel are fantastic. Loved the place despite a few negative comments.
Really uncomfortable location hard to find a taxi, bad maintenance of the room and other areas, the A/C was not working well, the wifi not working
Reception staff not trained up in customer service.
Great location in a quiet street close to the subway. Always a member of staff on reception that gave advice on local transport etc. in good English
Great location and charming hotel.
Problem with the water drain in the shower
Very good service, very nice staff, great atmosphere
Fabulous stay at The Hans Garden Hotel. A little hidden gem within the Hutong. The Guest relation Officer Martina Scorza was absolutely wonderful and truly made our sty memorable. She is a superb asset to the hotel!
Regarding access - finding anywhere in China is tricky but if you copy down the address to your phone in English and Mandarin and show it to the Taxi driver then there should not be a problem.
It was a brilliant hotel - an old Hutong. An opportunity to see the old China before it is all converted into high rise tower blocks. Excellent position for visiting other local Hutongs and shops. Staff very kind and attentive. So much better than being in a sanitised hotel. Lived up to its 5 star status.
Breakfast was not included so we paid for breakfast. On the first day it was a wonderful buffet but when we went down the second day it was only a "semi - buffet" i.e. not that much choice. We were charged the same amount but not told beforehand of the changed menu.
Excellent location. The traditional aspect of the hotel eg, courtyards and facade. the receptionist's understanding of English.
The worst food I ever had, very dirty, everything in bad condition, doesn't even look as close as on the pictures
Only concierge (Italian girl), she is fantastic and she was the only one who made this hell sparkle The location is good.
Access difficult at night. Taxis drivers didn't want to drop as at the Huttong and one night took us 1.5 hours to find it as taxi dropped us off at an incorrect site. Maps in Beijing did not detail the hutongs by name. Many locals didn't know them by name
Staff very attentive and rooms superbly appointed
Wireless option allows only two devices
Excellent caring staff. Located in interesting hutong area
The breakfast seemed a little expensive as the selection wasn't great at the buffet.
This hotel is wonderful! It is a beautiful place to stay. All staff were helpful and attentive, they booked a car for our trip to the Great Wall. The rooms were very clean and a good size, the location is excellent; a very short walk from a lovely pedestrianized street. I would definitely recommend it.
The airconditioning in the entire hotel was off, because it was not summer yet. We had two awful nights, like we were sleeping in a sauna. We had to keep the doors and windows open, luckily it is a very safe and quiet place. A ventilator would be helpful too.
Staff is superb!! They are going really out of their way to help you. Ambiance is gorgious! Location is wonderful! Amazing Chinese building and interior. Just a marvelous place to stay!
Booked a suite with two bedrooms and a lounge, the double was great as was the over the top bathroom but the smaller 8X8 box room had the hardest single bed ever and could only access bathroom through the double - forgivable given it's riad style but the early morning call requested for 8 on the first morning was 15 minutes late and on the second morning did not get one at all. The safe also did not work. The Chinese restaurant is an impressive tea room but was expensive, £130 for 3 and erratically served - but an experience worth paying for as our first time in Beijing.
fabulous interior - like a film set from Crouching Dragon! pleasant Italian receptionists.
The hotel has four courtyards and is very beautiful. The employees are very friendly and helpful especially Irene, who was very welcoming. WiFi was OK.
In this hotel which is offered as 5 stars hotel are only two people who speak English (very friendly and helpful young Ladies from the Italy). The rest of the staff don't speak English. Room was dirty and the level of the cleaning service is unacceptable. There is no air-condition in the whole hotel what is especially bad because of high temperature and air pollution in the city. No lift. The hotel needs refresh and improvement of technical infrastructure.
Great location in the middle of hutong. Historical courtyard house with beautiful architecture.
Hotel's own restaurant seemed a little overprised (though the cusine quality is awesome).
Convenient location, spacious rooms (suits), genuine Chinese atmosphere, quiet and cosy. Friendly and helpful English-speaking reception staff.
No climate control despite the controls in room indicating it is. Its only a heater, we left it on when we went to dinner, we had to leave the door open at 11pm to cool down the room as it was so hot.
The head of reception was very helpful and accommodating
Staff people were trying to enter the room several minutes after I got in. 1st time brought slippers, second time were knocking while i was in bathroom, then started opening the door not getting my response!
Very good combination of traditional style with comfort of modern hotels. Beautiful architecture and fresh side work. Liked bathtub with TV in front, king-size bed, beautiful Italian receptionist.
A bit difficult To find for taxis. Third bled in the family room ont Very confortable.
Very good location. Great staff
