Great location and helpful staff
The location is good, but so will most places be as Xi'an isn't that big (in the city walls). The breakfast was probably slightly overpriced, but the muesli cup was a welcome bit of health in our diet.
The staff just didn't leave a good impression on us at all. They were always talking to each other and laughing when you, or anyone was at the desk. And one guy was complaining and checking out early and they just ignored him and continued to laugh. When we booked the tour to the Terracotta Warriors it said free breakfast on the poster, but we had to really push them for it - and then we had the 'choice' of the 2 stale muffins left in the cabinet....and whilst we were eating them 6 new ones appeared from nowhere. Plus a small black coffee - don't dare to ask for a latte. And when we wanted a black coffee the next day we could only get medium or large. The tour was pretty good, but we had to then buy lunch (30 yuan set menu) - so couldn't understand why that wasn't just added to the tour and included in the whole price. Finally, when we asked them to book us a taxi to the train station they laughed and said it's too close so taxis don't want to go there - but they could organise a tuktuk for 50 yuan (which was about 3 times the price of a taxi). In the end they sorted us a tuktuk for 20 yuan. Basically - we just felt that they were constantly trying to squeeze every last yuan out of us, and it got pretty annoying by the end of it.
The location is nice - almost every sight inside the wall is reachable by walk. Also as mentioned in other reviews, the beds are very comfortable! The bar wasn`t cheap, but the live-music great and it`s a good place to get in touch with other travelers. We booked the trip to the terracotta-warriors. First I thought 200+RMB is expensive, but it was totally woth it. Our guide was fun and informative and she quickly brought our little group together. Food in the Bar/Cafè is good, but more pricely than eating local food outside. Those who miss western breakfast should definetly try the "Big Breakfast", which comes with sausages, eggs, bacon and toast. Burger and Spagetthi were tasty as well. All in all we totally enjoyed the stay. If we go back to Xian we`ll stay again at the Hantang House.
When we arrived they told us that we cannot get our booked room (double bed) for the first night, because there is a problem with the booking. Anyway, the other room was nice too and even the single beds were large enough to sleep there together. Our room was very cold. Our stay was in February and there was just a air-conditioner to heat up the room. I asked other travelers (who stayed in the dorm) and they said their room wasn`t cold, so maybe it`s just a problem of some rooms. What I didn`t liked was that sometimes the staff wasn`t very nice. Mostly though they were, but especially in the morning it`s not a good start in the day if the staff is not smiling at all.
nice place, okay location
2nd floor was really the THIRD floor, lots of stairs to carry suit cases
The staff is very friendly and speak english which is very difficult to find in china
Location and the alleys nearby, the Drum Tower and Bell Tower, Muslim Street was really nearby so we could enjoy a walk to these places and come by the night without looking for any cab.
Bar downstairs is really dark and staff is aloof, it takes them a while to warm up with you but by the time you might be leaving. Bar can get noisy on the weekend and street fights travel to your room.
location was perfect and generally the guest house is very good ...
staff are okay but not helpful as they should be...they dont give more time and care to help you with the enough infos for going somewhere...they also charge me for 30RMB to get my train online booked ticket from the train station while i got it for free by myself with 1 RMB bus cost transport ...
No heating in room (winter=COLD) Did not respect booked rate & conditions, although staff were somewhat reasonable in the subsequent negotiation, this is not really acceptable.
1) Near by "HALAL" restaurant 2) MUSLIM QUARTER, BELL TOWER IS ONLY ABOUT 15MIN BY WALK 3) EASY TO GET BUS AND SUBWAY
In room wifi very weak.
Location near city centre. Decoration of the loby is very unique and comfort. Has lot of good beers.
Wifi in the room is not very good.
Staff speaks good English. Good location. Western breakfast is available.
Lobby of hostel full of smoking guests, polluted the environment. Noisy at night as it come from the bar. RMB350/van for 8 adults was charged from Xianyang airport to this hostel. Whereas it should be RMB300/van if pick up from hostel to Xianyang airport.
The bed was remarkable. This is important because china hostels usually have hard rock beds which make impossible to have a good rest. Makes the difference. Staff was nice and the pub downstairs is very lively. Party nights and live music. Great atmosphere.
Food in the pub was a bit overpriced for what it is (mainly western food) Cakes and milkshakes were a bit disappointing, and the burgers a bit too grease. the rest we tried was good. A bit cold in the room. Can't control the system's temperature.
Very clean, comfortable hostel. The tours were well run.
The food and drinks were expensive. Their sister hostel down the street was cheaper and had a better range.
Everything was in order. Good staff great services
I stayed few nights.
The location is near to the drum and bell tower and muslim quarter.
I hope they have heating facilities in their rooms.
We stayed in a double room which was of a really high standard. Clean and high quality, particularly the bathroom which had a proper shower not a wet room as if often the case in China! The bar & cafe area is cool, with good (if slightly expensive) food. The staff were helpful as well, we even had a free pick up from the station which went v smoothly.
The Cleaniest place ever!
The Bar was too expensive!
Staff were very welcoming and helpful. We booked on their trip to Terracotta Warriors and enjoyed an fascinating day in the company of fellow residents. The lounge/reception area was lively and offered an easy meeting place. Refreshments were available to purchase throughout the day and the bar provided live entertainment at night.
Really I like this hostel, is more like a hotel style but the best are the sandwiches and the staff specially Rose that helped me a lot with all the reservations thanks Rose!!!
Good location. Helping stuff. Nice room
-The night staff in particular was very helpful and easy-going. -It is really quite an affordable place to stay if you're content not being in a luxury hotel.
-There doesn't appear to be much control over who is smoking in the rooms or not. (However, it's China, so non-smoking is somewhat of a non-issue all around.) -The day staff was helpful but seemed slightly bothered with questions.
I liked the availability of tours, cleanliness of the rooms, nice shower, location and the breakfast and coffee!
The staff was not too knowledgeable on how to find places for shopping, massage and so on and they ended up sending me to an address that no taxi driver was able to find.
the bar with good music the shower separed
breakfast is expensive, the date of the bottle of beer was past one year! you need the key to access at the floor,so you must go to the room at the same time if you are 2, because without key no light
Hantan House is perfect for the relaxed, laid back, casual trip to Xian. It has simple but good rooms, simple but good showers in the room, and it has safe, healthy, tasty home cooking. Wendy at the front desk is full of information. She booked the Tang Dynasty Dumpling Dinner and got us superb seats. You do not have to book with an agency to get good seats!!! The hostel's location is central and easy to walk the North South/East-West streets. Hantang House is off the main busy streets, on a residential side street. Do not be taken back by this street's appearance. It is a safe area. A convenient store is across the street and a hair saloon is around the corner. Others in the hostel were friendly and good conversations were easy to find.
You need to bring your own body washing soap. Our shower stall was a bit moldy in the corners. (However, there were shower slippers provided)
Good place to meet people, some staff is very helpful and speak good english, good location and close to local foods, evening entertainment.
Dead flies on the walls, shower floor a bit grimy, no free toiletries (that's ok, since it's a hostel...), room and common area quite dark. Food was overpriced. We were told reception could help us with getting a taxi to the airport shuttle bus. But after trying to stop one ourselves with no luck, we returned to the hostel where receptionist Michael just shrugged, pointed at his wrist watch and said it'll be hard to get one at this time, also that there's no taxi booking service to the shuttle, only to the airport. As he was the one who booked our flights and gave us the location of the shuttle bus, he could have informed us of this earlier, nor did he bother to tell us there was a taxi stand nearby we could try. Very unhelpful.
