    Clean Room.

The staff hardly spoke any English. Well they did, but didn't make any sense. Had to argue several times for simple service requests... (all they kept saying was "no"). By the way, I was just asking if I can plug in my phone charger for 30 minutes at the lobby while I was waiting for my driver. Also, the food was wow.. terrible. I'm pretty sure they reuse a lot of the food from the day before. Bottom line, if you are staying in Beijing, pay extra and stay at a better place. Marco Polo should really do better in training their staff.

The staff were very helpful and the the hotel has a good feeling.

the tv channels state clearly in the brochure channel list that Star movies is available on ch 79. IT IS NOT and and according to the engineer that visited my room it never has been. Why would you say a tv channel is available when it clearly is NOT and never has been? this sort of thing makes me angry .... change your tv channel brochure!!!!!

Great location for restaurants, shopping, and general city walking. Close to Olympic Village - "birds nest" and close to a large technology and science museum. Staff generally spoke good English and were very customer oriented.

    The bed

I can't stress how disappointing my stay at the Marco Polo was. The hotel is meant to be a five star but the way it is run was more like a 2 star/ 3 if it was lucky. When arriving late at night we were checked in and told we would get a double room. When arriving in the room it was a twin. We called down to reception who said there were absolutely no rooms left and they would change us in the morning as people would be checking out. We also tried logging into the wifi and were told that only some floors receive wifi - this is meant to be a five star establishment. How can they not offer basic internet access?!? The next day having gone down to reception to swap rooms the lady at reception tried fobbing us off by telling us the WHOLE hotel was at full capacity and there was no way they could swap our rooms but that 'tomorrow' they could. I was not willing to stand for this - once calling for the manager and having stern words they finally gave in and gave me a double room with wifi. (Obviously meant the hotel was NOT at full capacity). On the day of check out we were then slapped with a service charge which we were told was paid on the night of arrival. The whole thing was an utter joke. On top of that the hotel is no where near a station and for it to advertise 5 minutes is a complete joke more like 20minute walk. There is no reason to stay at this hotel unless you need to be specifically in this area.

The decor is very modern. Spacious rooms. Good breakfast at Marco cafe. Excellent Japanese restaurant next door (Matsuko).

The staff speak poor English. The location is pretty far from main Beijing attractions.

Rooms were spacious and clean, though the view I had from my room was bad. The breakfast buffet served a rather large range of international cuisine. There are many restaurants and a supermarket near the hotel.

The staff at the front desk were not the most polite I have seen from other 5-star hotels in other parts of China and rest of the Asia. The hotel has a policy of collecting nearly the same amount of deposit as the room charges itself, leaving you with lots of RMB upon checking out. The service crew who tidied my room tend to miss out replenishing some of the items and I had to call Housekeeping (who never picked calls ever). Also, the location of the hotel is far from the rest of the famous attractions in Beijing since it is just inside the 5th Ring, so be prepared to spend 50-70RMB on cab fare to places like Temple of Heaven/Forbidden Palace (given the traffic, metro might be a better idea)
