Our room here was by far our favorite in China. Large, comfortable, and with great wifi. The shadow puppet show and master present was an amazing experience. We saw the show, painted our own puppets, and really enjoyed our stay thoroughly. We hope to one day come back!

nice location, kind staffs, and the free drink the offer is excellent. Nicely decorated

Horrible wifi, don't choose here if you need to use the internet a lot. Some of the rooms have no window and they smells.

The staff was very helpful, even though they don't speak English very well. The room & bathroom were quite big. I loved the decor. One of the ladies walked us to the main road when we checked out and helped us get a taxi. It took a while and she was willing to take us to where we were going in her own car. 10 points for that.

The location was too much of a culture shock. Its located in the Hutong's and took our driver forever to find. Taxis will drop you off on the main road and you will have to find your own way as the streets are VERY narrow. The Wifi is terrible in the rooms, the breakfast quite bad. There is no room service and when we asked to order from other restaurants in the area the menus were in Chinese. The TV doesn't have any English channels. We were booked for 4 nights but only stayed 1 night. If its your first time in Beijing I would recommend staying in the city as this hotel will ruin your experience of Beijing, which would be a shame.

the position right in the middle of the famous Hutongs is just perfect if you want to experience the most traditional chinese life

the fact that taxi drivers don't want to drive you to the hotel but will mostly leave you about 1 km away due to the difficulty of moving in the Hutongs.

The human "touch" - they were the best staff I've ever met in hotels/ They even took responsability for false 300Yuen that we'd received, and we're not sure that they we're given to us by them. When we had Wi Fi problems they sent a specialist to put some special device in our room, so the problem disappeared immediatly.

This hotel is quite beautiful and is located in the Hu Tongs in Beijing. It is really easy to walk to Houhai Lake and Beihai Lake. The shadow art show is cute. The breakfast is simple but good and filling. The staff were also very helpful with everything we needed.

Clean, friendly and helpful staff. They spoke excellent english! Wonderful location.

We had a group of parents with children so it was noisy. However the staff were very apologetic.

This was my second hotel during my stay in China. Small but charming lobby with shadow puppets show every 2 or 3 days which is nice addition. Stuff speak English well which is not common. They are helping in every matter. Small and charming hotel in Hutong area close to night bars at the Houhai lake. The surroundings looks not perfect but Beijing is very safe place to walk even during night. So do not worry at all. Charming place.

Rooms are clean but small and without windows. You can not control air-conditions in your room. Breakfasts were a little bit disappointing although it was a variety of European and Chinese style but cold. Compare to a big Inter Continental Beichen I was a little bit dissatisfied.

As it is a 10min walk to the nearest metro, walk to Ping'Anli metro via Huguosi Street, its a lively street full of locals going about their day to day business, lots of cheap eats and street food, good people watching Front desk staff very helpful, especially Sarah Hotel is located in the hutongs so if you want a local experience of what its like to live in Beijing then definitely book here Excellent wifi

10 min walk to/from metro Lighting in bathroom could've been better No windows in ground floor rooms, this wasn't advertised on the site at time of booking Taxi's don't like to drop you off at the premises as you have to drive through the hutongs (narrow streets) so be prepared to walk from the main street, its is safe to walk but as a solo female traveller I was a bit nervous walking to hotel late at night

The art! The staff was amazing!

I didn't know they had a shadow puppet play and had already booked up that time! I was sad to miss it but I will just have to return!

-beautiful interior (lobby) and spacy bathroom - friendly service with good english - good location if you want to get a taste of traditional Beijin

    - wi-fi works only in the lobby - not every taxi wants to come directly to the hotel because of the tiny streets in the hutongs area

Clean and quiet, friendly and helpfull staff, interesting decor and show, good place to relax, close to local attractions.

Very hard to get taxi as many of them don't know the address, room is a little cold, no restaurants onsite and nearby.

Almost no taxi driver knows the hotel, so be prepared with a map or call the hotel to have them talk to the driver

The surroundings; cozy and nicely decorated communal area.

We requested for a double bed but was given a twin... Decoration inside the suite is no match for the outside. Plain wall with spots, feels like a budget hotel room (washroom not bad though). A window facing the hotel's staircase and very poor soundproof - don't expect much privacy. Worse still, this made me very hard to fall asleep and I was awaken for a few times every night. Avoid rooms next to the staircases.

Big rooms for reasonable prices. Great rooms atmosphere. Really original and unique design (30s). Service friendly and efficient.

Breakfast below average for hotel standard. Bath not working properly.

The hotel is a small gem in the middle of the Hutongs, the heart of the real city. A good place for those who prefer old charm boutique hotel to cold international resort chains. The staff speak poor english but they are very friendly and try to make you feel at home.

The breakfast is just awful and doesn't worth its price, the problem is the lack of alternatives in the hutongs. Even though the subway is 10 min by feet, the hotel is a bit far from all major sites and good restaurants areas (this can be a serious issue after a few days of long walks). Suites are beautiful but you get the smell of sausages and eggs every morning.

Its modern and clean but very small

No restaurant in the hotel so breakfast was not good

The hotel is close to two subway lines, which are incredibly easy to use and efficient. The hotel itself is relaxing, chic and quiet. The area safe though a traditional hutong (don't expect clean and modern surroundings).

Not a good place for travelers who need coffee. Horrible coffee in the hotel, and nothing nearby. Wi-fi is also not available in some of the rooms.

Location: close to metro stations bars and restaurants; breakfast: international (very good) and chinese style; the staff was very kind and helpful even if not all of them perfectly speaking English

The room was a bit small but it was the cheapest one. Internet connection sometimes didn't work for me

The staff were very friendly. The hotel is comfortable and stylish. The shadow puppet show was a treat. Although a little short this was made up for by the two Chinese children, also guests, who after the show gave us their own interpretation of shadow puppetry. The dancing skeleton was hilarious!
