Das Hotel ist der offizielle Veranstaltungsort der 2006 World Leisure Expo Hangzhou. Das Sofitel Hangzhou liegt nur 20 Minuten vom weltberühmten See West Lake, vom Flughafen und vom Bahnhof entfernt. Jedes Zimmer ist gut ausgestattet. Einige Zimmer verfügen über einen Balkon und bieten einen Blick auf den See und den Garten der Anlage sowie auf die Berge. Der einzigartige Grundriss des Hotels fügt sich einzigartig in die Umgebung mit dem angrenzenden Tiger Mountain und dem berühmten Xiang Lake ein und eignet sich hervorragend für einen erholsamen Aufenthalt. The scenery was quite beautiful (we got a lakeside room) and overall our room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. The staff were friendly and helpful enough, but for the most part their English ability was nowhere near what it should be for a foreign-owned hotel marketing itself as world-class. I got the feeling that had I not been traveling with a native Chinese speaker, it would have been a real hassle dealing even with simple tasks such as booking a taxi to downtown. Also, the website advertises a complimentary shuttle that can take guests to West Lake, but for some reason this shuttle was only available at 9:00am, 10:00am, and 4:00pm. When we asked why there were no earlier afternoon times we got the ludicrous answer that most guests drive their cars to the hotel, so they don't need a shuttle service. This lack of shuttle availability is a real problem as we found that most taxi drivers in Hangzhou charge double for one-way trips to West Lake or the city center because of the distance. Not a bad hotel overall, but next time I'll stay in a hotel closer to the city center.
