눉The Tea Cozy is a very special place and we loved it. The only constructive criticism I would offer is that they might want to consider air conditioning in the lobby area, and perhaps screen the room balconies so they could be enjoyed in the evenings without mosquitoes..
눇What a wonderful little hotel - by far our favorite on our trip through China!
The hotel is located about 4 kilometers out of the "downtown" Yangshuo, adjacent to the Yulong River. They offer a free shuttle into town and back. I was very, very happy with the location - we could and did visit the town, but could then retreat to the delightful Tea Cozy with beautiful views. The hotel has a pretty garden, and that's where most of the tables are for their wonderful restaurant. We could not believe how good the food was - and they had a nice-sized menu which featured Chinese dishes, local specialties, and Western food, at reasonable prices (cheap compared to home - reasonable compared to China). I particularly recommend the cashew chicken - best I've ever eaten, anywhere in the world! Our room had a balcony facing the mountains and river. We didn't use it much because the humidity was pretty bad, but it made the room nice and spacious. There was free wi-fi, a refrigerator, coffee, tea, and a daily, complimentary, bowl of fruit. Laundry was 30 yuan ($4.70) a kilo and returned in less than 24 hours. The decor is delightful - a lot of attention to detail, whether on the doors to the garden or to the little boxes that hold napkins (in itself a rare thing in China).
Although the Tea Cozy has much to recommend it, it's biggest asset is its staff. The cooks are magicians. Everyone that deals directly with guests speaks English well, and they go above and beyond to be informative, helpful, friendly, and kind. We had the most interaction with Amy, who always took excellent care of us, whether arranging our kayaking on the Li River, a shuttle into town (they have a free service), or a bicycle rental. And they never charged higher fees than we otherwise expected to pay. In fact, Amy went out of her way to explain options that could save money.
