Score from 827 reviews Good
Good value. Very close to the Forbidden City, shopping and subway.
A little hard to find. Thought the taxi made a wrong turn, but there it was.
Ease of access to Forbidden City (5mins) and similarly to many other attractions/pedestrian mall/food stalls and cafes Free bicycles Location in local neighbourhood
Location is central, 10 minutes to walk to Food Market, breakfast buffet is good, room and bathroom are clean and modern, super modern interior. Robe, slippers, tea and cookies are provided- very nice touch.
Could be a problem to get by car/taxi to this hotel, because of the traffic. The side street, where hotel is located, is pretty narrow. Breakfast starts 7 am, but food starts to come at the same time, staff is young and not very well trained. Nobody left hungry, just takes little more time to finish with the breakfast.
the price (too much expensive for what it has to offer, comparing with others 4 stars hotels)
good location for sightseeing
staff of restauarant is far from professionals for a 5 star hotel
Staff Location Room Breakfast Everything was great
Everything was perfect
It is very clean, has a nice location, the stuff is kind, the breakfast is really fine. The whole hotel is very comfortable.
Not every receptionist can speak English.
Good location; free mini-bar; amazing choice at breakfast; extremely helpful staff with good English skills.
Volatile internet; late breakfast - the breakfast is not fully laid out until 7:15-7:20 which is a pain if you are being picked up early for a day trip or airport run; the rooftop overlooking The Forbidden City (one of the main attractions of the hotel in my opinion) is closed for winter - not good!
Great staff, great location, except taxi drivers couldn't find it, as located down a small hutong. very generous with lots of complimentary water, as well as complimentary beers.
Place was very tired, dare I say grubby? Needs a good cleaning and makeover. Restaurant very limited for western tastes, so walked to Crowne Plaza for dinner every night. Breakfast acceptable but not brilliant
Location and view from the roof terrace is great. Also staff is excellent
This hotel needs maintenence. Really.
I had to carry my bags up to my room. The hotel has no elevator. Why wasn't stated in the hotel information? There was a private party up in the restaurant and we were told to leave!!! Hotel guests not allowed to use the hotel restaurant!! We went out for a better and much cheaper meal. Never again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Location - walking distance to Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Wangfujing and a couple of Metro stations. Great staff - helpful in providing directions and recommendations
Looks a little dated (it opened in 2008), but there are plans to renovate in 2015
Everything it was excellent
Maybe the taxi friendly-ness could be improved with street signs as the taxi Drivers I had struggled to find it.
Location, free wifi and breakfast
They say you can't reserve bikes, yet people took bikes and didn't use them. We ended renting bikes from bike Beijing. Recommendations by staff for eating options could have been better. Didn't seem like they knew the immediate area very well. The shower and toilet are together, so the floor is very wet once you take a shower.
The staff on reception was speaking very good english. We ordered at reception a tour to great wall - worked very well. Very good breakfast: both european and chinese food. Very quiet room, no noise from the street. Air-conditioning worked well. 10 mins walk to Wangfujing pedestrian street and 20 mins walk to the south gate of forbidden city.
The toilet and the shower are separated by the curtain. The water from the shower went to the floor. The area near the hotel is rather dark in the evening.
I liked the fact that the reception and restaurant staff offered to pack our breakfast as we were heading to the Great Wall tour very early in the morning. We enjoyed a minibar (two cans of beer, 2 cans of soda and 2 bottles of water) everyday for free. They gave us the weather report everyday. Very roomy cabinets. We could use bikes for free!!! The restaurant staff was very friendly.
The hotel is located on a narrow and lonely street, pretty dark in the evening. It is so narrow that even vans or buses cannot drive through. Not enough good restaurants or shops around the area. Even though this hotel is advertised as a five-star hotel, the reception lady told us it wasn't but it was just a popular hotel with a rate above 8. It is a four-storey building without elevator, not very convenient even with just a piece of luggage. At midnight we could hear a man snoring next door. Too slippery bathroom floor!!! Not much hot water in the morning!!! Not every reception staff could speak English. Even though we told them we did not want to be disturbed late at night, they transferred a phone call from the tour company when we were already sleeping!!!
Locality Price Friendliness of staff
A tiny bit uncomfortable for relaxing if you are not out an about.
The friendly and helpful staff Room size Breakfast and restaurant
It is right across from the forbidden city, close to Wangfujing Street. It was a theme hotel which is nice. It was clean. The staff were very nice, helpful and spoke English.
It is down a long narrow road that was difficult to find and no taxi drivers knew where it was. The phone number didn't work. It was supposed to be a four star hotel and it probably was at one time but it has seen better days. The beds were still Chinese hard, and there is no elevator. The entry is less than impressive. Obviously I was paying for the location not the comfort.
- the hotel location - close to the Forbidden city -
- far from the metro (10 min walk) - you have to get used to the design which is nice
Initially, the location of the hotel seemed inconvenient with the nearest MTR being about 1.5 miles away, and the neat hutongs I found southwest of Tiananmen was close to an hour-away by foot (near Quanjude Duck restaurant). But after a couple of days, I found a set of great restaurants and bars just north of the hotel about a 30-35 walk away, walking North on Beiheyan Street past Di'anmen Dong Da Jie (in the direction of Bell & Drum Towers); Beiheyan dead-ends, go left and North on N Luogu Alley, there are a bunch of options, and there are a series of cool hutongs off of N Luogu Alley too with bars and restaurants. If you don't want to walk too far, there are also a number of restaurants right there on Qihelou and Beiheyan Street, which is just minutes away. Also, there is a laundry service not far from the hotel -- walk left when you exit the hotel, away from Tiananmen, it's on the West side of the street, no more than a .25 miles away.
Ask the staff for a device to amplify the wifi in your room. The wifi doesn't really work at all in any of the public areas, but will work with the amplifier. The hotel is great value for the money, but the hotel does need some updating. I picked the hotel based a NY Times article written in May of 2012, and although it may have been hip and updated then, some things were a bit sad about the hotel. The rooftop bar is not well attended, the wood in need of varnishing, and the entire hotel needs a new paint job. The rooms are a bit drab, not sleek and futuristic as described.
The room was spotless, the bed comfortable, the linen high quality, the breakfast top notch and the staff accommodating!
Hotel is located on a noisy street and is nearly a mile to the nearest train station.
Staff The Staff at both Emperor Hotels in Beijing are the best we have encountered in China
The hotel is rundown and that is very very disappointing. Not 5 star status based on lack of maintenance of hotel. This is very sad because the staff make such a big effort. I hope the owners read this and understand that they need to spend money on this hotel and they are missing out on having a top 5 star boutique hotel by not doing maintenance.
The hotel room was very spacious and clean and everyone was very helpfull and friendly. We found also great that you are provided free drinks in the room every day.. The location is good. Its surrounded by some very poor areas but very safe and quiet. Then we discovered all,China is the same everywhere so it didntmp matter..its walking distance to many attractions, and easy to connect. Good value for money.
The internet doesnt work properly in the room so even though you have wifi, not everything works. The hotel Its a little difficult to find and majority of taxis even private dont speak english so this is complicated until you get there first time and then you know where to go to guide the taxis. I think it should say in the explanation that is next to Gynecologist and obstetrics hospital, that would save time. Nothing more wrong about it.
Cleanliness, funky design, breakfast, terrace and daily free minibar stock. Staff was quite helpful.
