This hostel was lovely. The decor and the vibe make it very unique and off the beaten track. What made a real difference to me though was the stuff, all extremely friendly and eager to help. It was good fun!

Polite staff. Good air conditioning. Location. Quite clear for a hostel.

No shelf or even hook for my things - I got one when my neighbour had left. But I must admitt that probably I had bad luck because the others seemed to have (dorm).

quality vs price wifi heating breakfast is ok (optional) personnel is flexible

Its hard to understand that they have 2 hotels. One is basic, the other is deluxe. Rooms are small if you use all the beds.

Bobby from the reception was very helpful with directions and buying a train ticket for me right in the middle of Golden Week, which was highly appreciated. While the facilities were basic, the beds were comfy and the place very clean.

The bathroom was cramped (inside the toilet), and not even the quaint charm of the dilapidated hutong was enough to make up for the long walk from the station to the hostel (if you do not have a lot of luggage it is ok, but if you have to drag a heavy suitcase for at least 15 minutes, it's no fun, unless you take a taxi, so you are better off choosing a more central location). The main issue that bothered me was that although the management seemed to be helpful, everything came at a price. Maps were 8 yuan (the exact same which you can get for free at any tourist office in Beijing), and train ticket booking came with a "delivery fee" of 35 yuan on top of the 3% surcharge for using credit cards (although this is common practice in China). Laundry service was offered, but at an astounding rate of 40 yuan/$6.60 Usd for a small load (significantly more expensive than what you would pay in Germany, let alone the us!!!), which, by the way, cost only 10 cyn to wash at the next hostel I spend the night in in Xi'An. After all of these surcharges, I was afraid to even ask for a towel rental for fear it might cost another 40 cyn or something crazy like that. Would be ok if you are a bare-bones traveler with few needs, but I would not recommend it to anyone else, unless you are looking to pay a lot in additional fees in case you need the additional services.

The situation in a very nice hutong, not touristy at all, very close to a nice and small market, close from the subway..
