Friendly staff Good atmosphere Not so far from Airport
Location was good. Near the main pedestrian street and walking distance to all the main tourist sites. Friendly staff although way too busy checking people in at times.
Zero insulation against noise. There is no AC in the hotel due to the cooler climate of Bogota so to be comfortable you have to open up the windows. If you have an out facing room you get the traffic noise. If you get an inner courtyard room you get all the noise from people walking in at night and doing other 'stuff' in their rooms.
staff, check in, poor breakfast, rooms and towels never ready
the location is walking distance from la candelaria historic town and lots of museaums ,historic buildings and some good restaurant like the cuban jazz cafe night club and restaurant lots of cafe with fair prices, lots of cultural things to do such as the esmeralda museaum and a short taxi ride to monserate.
the staff its not prepare for the difrent nationalitys that arrive every day, inglish is poor and the management is worse than staff if you use the computer room during the day you can here the maneger scream all the time even when she speaks to staff there is no food in the hotel restaurant at night and no where to go unless you get a taxi, no delivery either for the zone becomes dangerus after 7pm the night staff wont help you at all so unlles you got something in your room forget eating a meal or snak i been to colombia many times and speak 4 laguages and founded this particular hotel umprepare.
position, new hotel
owner, reception, check in, noisy and tiny rooms,
Price/quality was fine. The hotel looks very nice abd is located near La Candaleria, which may also be a a reason for some people not to book this hotel as this neighbourhood is old, poor and some people may feel a bit unsafe.
The employees at night called an unsecured tax!!! once, resulting in the taxi driver driving out of the city into the mountains. Once we noticed and commented on his behaviour he eventually turned but charged us double! The bathroom was not cleaned well during our 4 day stay.
Breakfast not good
clean nice staff
noisy in morning
A good place to stay for visiting candelara. Stay there, if you need just a bed and wifi while traveling.
I felt safe but the neighborhood is a bit dodgy at night, watch out at night or take a cab.
Located in the center of the city. Easy to catch a cab or bus to Convention Center or museums.
Do not get even number rooms as they face the center and can be quite noisy in the night time.
- Location in Candelaria - photo's do not match the rooms as they are.
- Candelaria isn't so nice as the books an people say. One day is more than enough. (zona rossa, macarena and the business district is) - no decent restaurants around - communication is difficult if you do not speak spanish.
Me and my partner arrived in Bogota late in the evening and wanted somewhere safe to stay for our first night in Colombia. We got a taxi to the Amber hotel only to be told that there were no rooms available. We were told we had not made a reservation. I showed the male working behind reception our booking confirmation along with reservation number but were again told that there where no rooms available. Apparently they took in a group booking that day and had sacrificed our room. We were left stranded late at night in Bogota. The hotel did find us somewhere else nearby but this hotel was dirty and much to be desired! In short, from our experience this hotel does not respect reservations even when booked through booking.com.
Cheapest hotel room in area (1 street away from 'official' La Candalaria area but closer to restuarants than most other accomodations) Staff very helpful and friendly (although they don't speak much English - brush up on your Spanish)
If reception staff busy with other guests then could take a few minutes for front door to be opened (locking front door in Colombia and other South American is common practise for security)
Nice hotel, very clean, good location
We booked a triple room that wasn't available upon arrival. We then were presented with a choice: pay more and take two seperate rooms or agree to a double room and pay for the triple room we'd booked. Of course we couldn't agree to that: pay more to get less. Luckily they agreed in the end and we just paid for the double room we were occupying.
The rooms are comfy, good hot showers and good location (walking distance to everything in La Candelaria) can get a bit sketchy at night but we never had a problem.
Breakfast is a joke, for $6US per person you get some stale bread and a coffee and a lot of the time they run out. Skip the included breakfast in the room rate
Good location just outside La Candalaria, so walking distance to key attractions without high price of La Candalaria hotels. The staff was very nice even though we don't speak much Spanish.
The block around the hotel was fine during the day. But after dark, when the neighborhood businesses closed, it was a bit creepy. The 2 and 3 bed rooms had nowhere to put your clothes.
Nice interior Breakfast included You can reach it on TransMillenio Bus from the airport Central location
Area a little bit questionable during the night
the website shows it to be very beautiful. the restaurant which is in the middle of the hotel looked very nice and the front staircase was beautiful.
i stayed 2 nights and three days. the room was only cleaned 1 time. i had to go tot the desk and ask for towels and was told they would be right up. 2 hours later i was told they had none because laundry had not been done and i was asked if i could wait 2 more hours. (as if i had a choice). me and my date were going out to dinner and i asked that they not put the towels in the room since my belongings were out and that i would collect the towels when i got back from dinner. when i got back from dinner i was told ( Oh hi, the towels are in your room) yes the staff spoke English. there is no wardrobe. not even hooks to hang things from. the bed was 3 1/2 from the door (enough said) they charged me double occupancy but i only got towels for 1. the hotel is located in one the most dangerous areas of Bogota for tourists. i am 6' tall, blond hair, blue eyes, 220 lbs and in pretty decent shape and i live in New York. i have traveled extensively and even the handful of locals i made friends with said they only go to that area if they have to and never go there after dark. one side of the street directly across from the hotel entrance stunk like urine to the point i wanted to vomit. the entrance is double locked and the doors have very heavy tinting on them so that it is difficult to see in. you must ring a bell and wait to be let in. there are no safes in the rooms. the hotel safe (which i never actually saw since it was under the counter at the front desk) is available for you have your items piled in with any other guests item. horrible system. each night at about 630 pm or 7 pm you can hear regular thumping seeming to come the roof. later i found out it was coming from the roof because that is where they play basketball. i asked for a room with a view and was taken to room overlooking some garbage piles and what seemed to be a salvage yard.
Hotel is nearest the plaza Bolívar 10 min.Building is very nice and they give you free coffee in the morning.2 computers for free internet with a fast conection, nice showers with hot wáter always.
Book a room with a doble bed and i had a tiny room with a single bed.The man who polish the room told that i smoke in the room during the night and i told him that is more tan 5 years i stop...when i come in the room some dollars left on the table was disappear.Payed for full laundry service and my things was only washed and delivered in a common bag and not ironed.Stayed 4 days and walking in my room i had always hairs of a girl on my feet and more they dont change towels...I think Ambar is perfect for backpackers.
everything about it.
Not a thing
The location was good must of the historical place to do tourism are near
During the night was really noisy you heard everything for the street and the wifi sometime do didn't work well
Location was pretty good. David, who I think is the owner, was really welcoming.
I wanted to change the length of my stay (shorten it) but Graciela, who worked the front desk in the afternoons, said she couldn't change the reservation after it was in the system. I was skeptical. She was nice enough, but wasn't accommodating. I told her the TV didn't work and she sort of shrugged it off --> not a big issue, but when they won't let me change something on my end and fail to hold up their end it's disappointing. Walls were really thin so you could hear the buzzer all night, and every once in a while Graciela would yell for one of the maids...which you could always hear. If you are a budget traveler, my advice would be to stay at a hostel in la candelaria - plenty have private rooms if you don't want to do a dorm.
Excellent relation quality-price. The room was big and the bed very comfortable. We didn't have breakfast included but there are a lot of places round the corner where you can eat a good breakfast for a low price.
Location is not the best, as it isn't a really safe area at night, but we didn't have any problem.
