Having been to Cartagena before this is the first place we have found that really let us relax. Having the pool and outdoor space really adds something special!
very nice place with exceptional courtyard and outdoor dining, great location, good breakfast. Overall, really enjoyed my time here and would definitely return.
staff speaks no English. That's ok, however would be better for them, and guests if they learned basic English.
Gabriel, the night watchman. The women on staff were always Friendly, kind and helpful. The location!
The parrot was eaten by a cat. It Needs to be replaced. Breakfast sometimes was slow to start on time
Good pool, good location, good breakfast.
There was no door between the room and the toilet, it's just a shower curtain. They have a shortage of towels. We had to ask for them every day and didn't get them most of the days before 7 pm.
the swimming pool, the cooking facilities in the shared kitchen, good breakfast, friendly staff
some rooms have still a very old and noisy AC
good location, good value for money
no privacy, internet was very bad
We loved the relaxed atmosphere, great breakfast with fellow mature travellers ( no backpackers, just adventurous adults) and the wonderfull pool, a respite from the heat in the city! 24 hour security, and a wonderfull local and safe neighborhood for having a beer or meal, watching the local color: priceless! Highly recommended.
We had requested a room with 2 beds, and this room was mid pool, and had 1 decent bed and one that was hard as cement. Upon explaining that my back could not take such firmness, we were given #8, an upstairs suite, very large with 2 decent beds. Note that construction is going on at the hotel, right underneath #8, however it was not a problem with the noise, as workers quit around 6pm and did not start until 9 am.
The guest house is a short walk to centro. The pool is nice. We enjoyed hanging out in the nearby Plaza de la Trinidad. We stayed among locals, so it was cool to see more real life than you would staying in centro or San Diego.
The air conditioning did not work very well. The security was not great. There were no instructions for the safe and the door to our room was flimsy. The place was kind of run down and dusty feeling. The staff did not speak English or provide any tourist info.
clean room and the girls working there were friendly and as helpful as can be expected with limited English. breakfast was decent.
The French owner is more concerned with drinking nd smoking then actually bothering with his guests. He's in the wrong business. not enough spaces to relax by the pool.
Having a pool in Carthagene is a must because of the constant heat ! Our stay in Casa relax was really nice, but the AC in our room wasn't working very well. However this can be fixed easily. It's really one of the best price in Carhagene where every hotels are really expensive
The hotel is really nice and I would definitely recommend it to anyone! It looks even nicer than in the pictures! I was also totally happy with my room (I got a double room at the second floor, with air conditioner). Staff is friendly and helpful and the swimming pool is a bliss in the hot Cartagena! It is also very near the "ciudad amurallada" and the neighborhood Getsemani has its own charm... I was not sure before about booking a hotel in this neighborhood as a solo female traveler, but after researching a lot I decided to do it and I don't regret. Prices are a bit cheaper there than in the main city center and you get a bit more of a real Cartagena (although it is becoming very touristic as well). While you walk by you see local people that actually live there, you see their houses, their habits, so you don't feel only like in a "city museum". Mostly I felt safe walking alone. Only fear moment was when I decided to walk to the city center by myself on a sunday evening (around 8 or 9 pm). Nothing happened, but I guess it was not a wise choice. You take around 10 minutes to reach the city center by foot, but you have also to cross a sort of big avenue, a business district that had a lot of homeless and a bit strange folks at that day/time... It was of course really empty and not to be alone I sort of followed a couple that luckily was walking in the same direction. While walking in the small streets of Getsemani I did not feel unsafe, just while crossing this avenue area. After that you reach the old town, full of bars, hotels, tourists and safety. Easy peasy! On the way back I got a taxi - that costed like 5 or 6000 Pesos (around 2 euros), I guess. On my last day, the hotel staff also allowed me to stay 30 minutes more on my room after checkout time, so I could enjoy swimming pool a bit longer. I really appreciated that. Cartagena is so nice and the islands near by as well!
My only problem in this hotel was the internet. It was soooo slow it was impossible to do a skype call for example... But I also did not report the problem to the staff, so I don't know if they could have done something. Indeed I went to Cartagena for work, but I only had to do one interview on a friday and had the whole weekend to myself, so I did not stay much in my room (actually almost nothing). That said, internet, although slow, was not a problem. There was much in the real world to enjoy! :-) One second point, if any, was breakfast, they had fresh fruits and bread, but I missed something like ham or cheese... There was butter or jam. Anyway, this might have happened only in the day I had breakfast there, I am not sure (the other days I took breakfast out). But it was ok the breakfast anyway...
Nice Pool area, great breakfast, huge library, although mostly in french
Our bathroom was wall to wall with the public bano. So we were very well informed about the digestion of the other guests. Staff was not overwhelmingly friendly and heart-warming.
Relaxed atmosphere, pleasant staff. Pleasantly informal
We had a rather noisy room leading off reception but the ones around the pool were nicer
This hotel was perfect for a weekend getaway with my husband. The Old City is only about a 15 minute walk away, and the neighbourhood is alternative and peaceful. The hotel itself was very comfortable. The breakfast was great. There was free wifi. The pool was a great bonus for us!
Good location, near restaurants and bars and 10 mins walk from old town. Friendly staff. Nice pool.
the staff were friendly and gracious. The pool was a pleasant plus.
no privacy...no door on bathroom...dirty towels not available until late each day.No Wi-Fi only excuses.
The pool was very nice and the staff was very helpful. Location is perfect right outside the wall city and very close to a lot of fun bars and restaurants. The rooms have TVs and AC.
We asked for 2 beds and the gave us a twin and 2-twins put together to make up a full. The beds themselves were not the most comfortable and the sheets were poor quality
Great location in Getsemani, a nice large swimming pool, hammocks, and clean rooms. Casa Relax is a great value for the money
Rooms near the front of the hostel were noisy, you could hear people ringing the doorbell late into the night. If you book on booking.com be sure to email the owner (via Casa Relax's website) to confirm price & reservation. We booked via booking.com and got an email from the owner shortly before our trip saying he didn't reserve the room and as a result had to stay elsewhere the first night.
