The coffee was Great, People are friendly. Room and facilities are well equipped.

The only minor thing was, that the shower didn't work the first morning, but only because water was gone. Maybe that's a problem in all San Gil....

This is a very small hostel. The rooms are all set around the central living area. However, noise was not an issue as everybody seemed to go to bed by 11pm, even at the weekend. The owner is very nice and bakes fresh bread for guests every morning and the free coffee is very good. We got a cheaper price for activities booked through the hostel than Colombians did we met on the activities! The white water rafting was really good value for money.

If you cant speak spanish check that the tours they book for you have an English speaker. Dont do the horses. Its mean to be 5 hrs. Takes 2 hrs to get there, you spend 1hr on a hourse going down the road you came on BEHIND a jeep (fumes and dust in your face!!). You then spend 1 hour at pointless site by the river before going back up the way you came. They gave zero instruction to the beginners wont even let you gallop

Amazing staff, hostel is runned by Swiss owner who speaks few languages, including English. Was very helpful giving advices, booking bus tickets and everything else. Pricewise unbeatable place. Besides, San gil definetely exceeded our expectations, worth staying for few days more.

    Relaxed, nice kitchen and backyard

I don't know if it's fair to out it as a minus, still, as the guy who runs it is french, this place attracts a lot of french speaking poeple who socialize.., in french

The owners are very very nice. Not only did they book a bus ride and a paragliding trip for us, they also let us stay for some time after we already checked out. When I came back from a day in the (very warm) center, the lady of the hostel even gave me a towel and said I could take a shower if I wanted! And this was after we checked out! Also, we used the laundry service which was very quick, cheap, and good! They had a lot of information about the area and there was english speaking staff, which made it easier for us. The atmosphere was very good, lots of relaxed backpackers but not the partying type. The garden is also very nice, you can chill out in the hammocks which is very nice.

The hotel was a little bit far away from the center of San Gil. It was a 15 minute walk I think, but some streets are extremely steep! The room didn´t have any windows and was a bit gloomy, but the door enters to a lovely patio and there is a really nice garden.

Papillon is a lovely place to stay. The Swiss owner (who speaks english) and his Colombian wife were incredibly friendly and helpful - they booked a white water rafting trip for us (and can book all sorts of other outdoor activities - caving, canyoning, mountain biking etc) and gave us lots of info on buses and the surrounding area. Because we ended up staying there for 5 nights, they even did our laundry for free. The hostal itself was great. There's a communal area with a tv, DVDs, a computer and places to sit down to eat. The kitchen is well stocked, and there's an outdoor space with hammocks to laze in. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable, and the showers were good - slightly cool, but that was welcome due to San Gil's heat! Overall we had a lovely time here, and would definitely stay again!

It's about a 5/10 min walk from the main square, so not right in the middle of the action, but this suited us to be honest as it gets very loud in the centre of town at night.

Fantastic hostel, one of the best we've stayed in during 8 months in South America. The owners were lovely. It was very quiet in our room - but there were good areas to socialise in. Fully equipped kitchen where two people could easily cook. Very clean. We also got about 5kg of washing done for 10,000 - and it came out so clean! Good location, close to the centre. Free coffee.
