Welcoming and kind staff -- a family -- made this an excellent place to stay. Home-cooked breakfast each morning and lovely quiet location.
A little distant from the main beaches and entertainment district, but a regular (cheap) bus service makes this largely unimportant.
Lindsey and Claudia (the owners) and their family made us feel so welcome we stayed 3 more nights! The pool, location on the quiet side of the island and excellent snorkeling right outside the door were just what we wanted. Can't recommend highly enough. Good breakfast too.
AC in one room not working too well but was fixed.
The owner and family. All the other details pale into insignificance to the difference a friendly (and involved) owner can make. Just note the classy answers to a couple of poor reviews - this hotel experience is understated by the on-line description. If 5-star facilities is what you must have then go to Hawaii. But Sunset is the perfect hotel/location to get away from the mainstream and recharge,
The owner is a nice guy
It is not a Hotel, it is maybe a Hostel, the pictures of the rooms shown in there advertising I did not see, did not see any room with headboard, there is no SPA or restaurant, all the food is prepared in the owner kitchen, there is no beach next to the Hostel, the main problem is that to get from this Hostel to the city it is about 45 minutes by taxi if you want to eat or go to the beach, and it cost about $17.50 each way, so the real cost of one night is close to $200.00 for. Low end place on the middle of the Island far from civilization
The hotel and staff were wonderful. The hotel was in a great location for us, we were able to take walks to the blow hole, San Luis and it was a short bus ride away from San Andres centre. The pool was available 24 hours, a great way to cool down and watch the stars after an evening meal. The amenities in the hotel were excellent - there was even hot water showers if you wanted them. The owners recommended an excellent restaurant for a romantic meal and gave us lots of great advice so that we could make the most of our 3 days. The hotel had a relaxed family feel to it, the breakfasts were varied and filling, I can't wait to return!
San Andres town didn't have too much to do in the evenings, the zona rosa is pretty much closed in the week.
I enjoyed everything about this place. As a younger, solo traveler, I split my time in San Andres between the El Viajero Hostel and Sunset Hotel. For the modest increase in cost compared to the budget hostel, Sunset Hotel was a very welcome treat. The air conditioning, cable, shower/toilet all worked perfectly. Wifi was pretty reliable. My favorite aspects were chatting with the owner/family (they were delightful), the high ceilings in the rooms (stayed on the 2nd floor) and the cleanliness of the hotel/pool/diving area. Great stay.
Nothing to complain about. Everything was great. If I really try to nit-pick, I guess the lighting in the hotel room was a little dim.
First off San Andres is a duty free shopping paradise for Colombians, they flock to the beach downtown which is crowded and not unique. For a couple I would recommend only the quiet side of the Island (south/east) with Sunset at a perfect location for diving (right off the rocks across the entrance) and relaxation at the pool area. Rooms are simple but clean and functional. If you want a beach you have to hop on the local bus or rent a scooter or bike (right at the hotel) and go to the cocoplum/rocky cay or the beach at the decamaron complex close to San Luis (there is only rocks on the west of the island). Also take a boat trip to Acuario and spend the day at Haynes Cay (best fish of the Island at Bibis) I would definitely recommend diving in the clear and warm waters around the island with plenty of spots available (the hotel usually has some divers as guests so you can make friends) - Sharky Dive school has a shop right at the hotel (Roger is the son of the owner) where you can learn but he can also take you to some advance spots or just rent tanks & equipment
Avoid San Andres and Johnny Cay which are usually overrun by tourists and correspondingly also with locals trying to sell cheap stuff You can easily see the Island in few hours if you hop on a scooter (rent from the hotel) but apart from the south we found it largely underwhelming, the lagoon in the middle is a big puddle with two noisy bars (has small alligators in it) and Morgans Cave is also a tourist trap. Do yourself a favor and stay at Sunset with the friendly owners and go diving in the amazing waters of the Caribbean!
swimming pool and diving center
No transport service at night
The pool area and the snorkeling across the road. The room was also a good size.
I think the walls between rooms are very thin as I could hear people cough and a kid crying!
Excellent Hotel! Great for couples.
It`s a big island and sunset is really far from the city center (around half hour by bus, a little less by car). But I wanted tranquility and I kind linked to ride around the island. the major problem is that at night you have nothing to do and no restaurants around (the hotel has dinner service, but only until 8pm) The room is confortable and very clean, and lindsay is a really kind and helpful person. The shower is fine (little pressure, which is ok considering that the island saves water) for me, it was a great price and it was exactly what I expected. would be back for sure
We had a perfect Time in this great place close to the sea. The pool was nice too and the family very very friendly! Good Food and very good advice and organization of Car and Taxi and Diving. Thanks a lot!
It is kind of incredible place to rest, no noise to disturb you, I could say it has a deep silence, it is in front of a huge coral with no waves, as it is located away from the city center there is almost no cars crossing the road. Quite close to some great beaches with incredible blue water.
I think the breakfast has to be improved.
The management was quite friendly and the photos on website make it look like a great place.
The condition of this hotel is actually quite poor. The location horrible, and the food is subpar. We stayed just one night of our five night reservation, then left to go find another hotel on the other side of the island. Attempting to access the water from this hotel is quite dangerous.
My 2nd visit and enjoyed it even more than last time. This year they had motorcycles availabe to rent which was great and really enjoyed being able to ride around the Island. Lyndsay and family are always nice and always there to help or answer questions. They make you feel like family. Good food, good prices beautiful sunset every night. Thanks again to all at the Sunset for another great vacation!
I wish people would make more of an effort to clean up the inner part of the town and pick up the trash etc. Dissapointing to see the littering on some of the beautiful beaches ...
helpfull pleasant staff clean rooms wifi and breakfast included. Quiet with excellent snorkelling / scubadiving over the road (sharkey´s dive shop next door) bar and restaurant
Nothing bad to say
The people that work there is amazing
It is too far from the center, i will have to drive like 20 minutes.
Location because it's peaceful.
Restaurant is very basic; better off dining elsewhere.
We were there on our honeymoon and were really satisfied with our stay. The hotel is located in the quiet part of the island, and after a few days in town that is really appreciated. The service was great and the rooms are simple, but clean and nice!
Everything. It is a hotel that make you feel at home. The hotel has its own diving programme so it is easy and handy to do this activity. All divers are very professional and dedicated. My mother and I enjoyed every single minute of our stay in San Andres.
- Very good service - Location is quite and far from turistic and big groups hotels - We have to take the public transporation to go to beaches but they were near by
- Breakfast was fair but can be improve with options. - Beverages and snacks prices were not displayed
Staff were very friendly and helpful
It´s over priced.
This is the place to stay if you want to escape the crowds of the big hotels on the island. Just get a golf cart and park it in front of the hotel at night. Breakfast with seaviews and fresh coffee included. We had just a perfect stay, there is nothing more to say :)
Fantastic view over the pool to the lovely water beyond. Amazing swimming and diving. Very friendly and helpful staff. Bicycles to borrow and motorbikes to rent. Nice guests, divers and people interested in the environment. If you want shopping next door and a big resort, this is not your place. It is small & friendly. Easy to get the bus or a motorbike to town or anywhere on the island.
The staff was great! They were very helpful and spoke both English and Spanish.
