The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing.
The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing. And although the tap water is safe to drink in this city, I would stick to bottled water unless you won't mind the rather poor (and metallic) taste of tap.
One thing to note if you are an obvious foreigner, there are people constantly hounding you and bombarding you while you are walking in the street just to sell you things, get you to dine with them, or simply give you money. This was my least favorite part of the trip. I am a tall white American woman. At certain times of the day/night, I could not walk 10 steps without being approached by street vendors or begging children.

The city if Medellin is a city like no other.
The city if Medellin is a city like no other. You have a mixture of city-like with the immersive of nature. It looks like a city with beauty and nature combined. I suggest taking the metro or cable car. Medellin is similar to NYC but way more eco-friendly!

be careful with taxi's they may run the bill up taking longer routes, UBER works better, but even they try to modify a trip for a greater fare .. You can walk el Pobaldo without any problem .

Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
At the same time, if you are a tourist, how can you resist going there? It has all the high end restaurants, photo ops, boutiques, discos, and it is on fire with energy. Pergamino Coffee shop is fantastic.
The vibe of Lleras might be insulting to your soul though. Its full of scammers, prostitution, drugs, and beggars. Its dehumanizing and it will be hard not to burn through money when you are there.
In contrast Laurelas is more local and friendly. You will get some of the warm Columbian character from waitstaff and local coffee shops. There's a ton of partying in that neighborhood too, but not nearly as sleezy as Lleras Park.
Pablano in general is a tourist trap with high prices and a mediocre return on investment. It does not feel good to be there. Perhaps if I was local in Pablano I would know of all the cool little hang-outs, gyms, and dance classes. Which I am sure are abundant.
If I were to stay in Medellin for a while I would get a hotel in Laurelis and then look for a month-to-month rental in a neighborhood like Candelabra.
Its a relatively safe city for expats and has a great train system. The mountains are unique. If you were a local you could probably live there cheap.
Just stay away from Lleras is my advice.

It was our first time un Medellín 3 nights-4 days weren't enough. Beautiful city, nice people, it is simply amazing the change they went through from the 80's to now. Three infallible on the list of places to visit: Plaza Botero, pueblito paisa and Comuna 13.

Fantastic town, have to go there again.
Fantastic town, have to go there again.
Staying in El Poblado Manilla area was fantastic!
Slow moving place full of nice cafe's, restaurants and relaxing places to hang out.
Lots of places to go and see in the town and surrounding areas.
Worst hotel ever. This is not a 5 star hotel, it is a 2-3 star hotel. I have traveller around the world and around Colombia but I have never seen such a hotel, claiming to be 5 star. the rooms are very basic, the breakfast is the same as in a 2 star motel, the noise from the hotel’s own disco is awful; the staff is rude and do not care about the people staying at the hotel! stay away from this hotel unless you are 18 years old and want to party all night. The price is for a 5 star, but the service is that of a 2 star. worst hotel in Colombia
*Location...street with lots of shops restaurants, no traffic!
*Front desk staff...all fluently speaking English...thats a big plus...we stayed in 4 hotels in Colombia in 19 days-time and with no doubt, the Best customer service received.
They helped us with booking 2 tours, other recommendations, security opens and closes the entrance door for you, helped carrying my luggage after check out.
* The room was very nice and well decorated...lots of details!!! Very cosey!
* Rooftop with a big jacuzzi and an amazing view! Friendly barkeeper.
Rango Hostel is a very clean and welcoming hostel. They have recommendations for what tourists should visit while in Medellin. The beds and bathrooms are very clean. The cleanest i have been to for a hostel in colombia. They have delicious and tasty breakfast too which is worth paying for. Furthermore, they have many social areas and therefore easy to meet other travellers and make friends. Lastly, there is no better location than Rango Hostel. Right next to Poblado park which comes in handy because all activities commence from there.
The hotel is fantastic with an unbeatable location, in the heart of El Poblado and 10 min walk to Provenza. The service from all of the staff is exemplary in particular Pablo in the roof top bar and breakfast area who always made me feel welcome every single time. Sure sound proofing isn’t the greatest between rooms HOWEVER it is only a minor disruption - especially as you’re in Medellin, who wants to be sitting in their room all the time anyway!!! Highly recommended and I will stay again.
so the music is loud because you are in a Colombia Medellin little party bubble.. if you come here like that’s just what it is. they know it and so
should guests. I thought they were insanely respectful, helpful staff, good food, and amazing food/drink prices. The location is right by the poppin area. The city is super green and dope. close by all amazing eats like 1-5 mins walking. wish my room had some windows but all in all I enjoyed it. also shower was que bueno
Everything about this place is so good I even stayed there 3 times, every time I came back to Medellin. The staff is the friendliest I have encountered in Colombia, both the reception and the kitchen ladies. They helped me when my phone was stolen and also they kept my luggage until I came back from my trips around Colombia. Also, breakfast is good. I got a quite and spacious room. Location is good, area is safe. A very good deal in general.
Prime Location!, delicious breakfast, very friendly, lovely frontdesk agents all three, spacious bedroom, very quiet neighborhood, although the busy la 70 is right there. You can withdraw cash at bancolombia right on the corner, exito supermarket is very close, mondongo's restaurant also very close. The famous la 70 is right there walking distance, lots of hotels restaurants. I will definitely stay here again in a couple of months
It was my first visit to Medellin, Colombia. I felt in love instantly with the country, will be back again, hopefully soon. Marquee Hotel is definitely 5 star hotel: I received absolutely amazing guest service. Very polite and helpful staff, very modern interior design(that little crank for a tap water very cool touch).
My experience with the Marquee Hotel is one of the reasons why I can’t wait to come back to Medellin.
This is a cute, quiet, clean and super friendly little hotel very close to the south bus terminal and in a great neighborhood with excellent food (very comfortable to walk about or grab an inexpensive taxi to another part of town). Absolutely loved Natalia (Colombian hospitality is so wonderful!). Excellent value for money - and the breakfast is delicious!!! Would highly recommend!
The location is great, right in El Poblado area. It is very close to Parque Lleras and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. The property is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable. We liked it more than the previous hotel we had stayed at, which was more than double the nightly rate. Breakfast was really good, in fact the best we had in Medellín.
This is a beautiful boutique hotel in a quiet neighborhood, conveniently located to some of the best restaurants and attractions in Medellìn. I want to thank Agnes for everything she did to make my stay comfortable. I came to Colombia to relax, and that is exactly what I was able to do. Also, thanks to Eric and the rest of the staff for their hospitality.
It was my 2nd and 3rd stay at the Belford and I have been as happy as I was the first time: quiet location just 5 minutes by car from the center of El Poblado, stylish appeal, great pool, comfy rooms with everything you can ask for, good breakfast (for Colombia that is), very helpful and friendly English speaking (!!!) staff. At this price level a gem!
We had a great stay in this very charming hotel. They basically converted a very typical colombian house to a hotel. The room was very spacious for family like us and clean. All the staff is very considerate. The food is excellent and reasonably priced and made by lovely cooks. And the view from the rooftop is amazing by night. Highly recommend!
If you want to feel like you have a Colombian grandma and a Spanish father that knows all the best spots in Medellín come and stay here. The house is wonderful, the home cooked meals are amazing and nothing is ever too much to ask for. Mariano has a divine taste in art, so if you want to be visually and culinary spoilt you know where to book.
this is an awesome hotel in a very beautiful area of el poblado in Medellin Colombia.
The staff was very welcoming from the moment you check in. The staff in the dining area accommodated all our requests.
my wife loved their cocktails.
I like to give my thanks to Walter. Fabian and Juliana for their awesome service and professionalism.
This is a very nice hotel, with very good rooms and a very good breakfast buffet every morning. In a southern area of Medellin. It takes a 5-10-min taxi to get to the area of El Poblado for evening dinners. It's also good value overall, given the price of hotels in Medellin felt more expensive than the rest of the country.
Los Patios has a reputation that precedes it on the Colombia travel circuit and I was looking forward to checking it out during my visit to Medellin. It offers ample opportunity to join all the main tours, along with some less obvious options.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, always with a smile.
The hotel was extremely quiet (a great thing) after many loud nights in Colombia. A special shout-out to the staff member Shirley: the most phenomenal person we've met in all of our time in Colombia. She was such a caring woman wanting to even walk us to the metro to keep us in the right direction!
This hotel was the most beautiful hotel we stayed in during our entire trip to Colombia! We loved the design and decor of the hotel as it highlighted city meets nature perfectly. Our room was very comfortable and high tech. We also really enjoyed the views from the rooftop as well as the pool.
