Score from 218 reviews Excellent
Great location between the beaches and the town. Amazing view of the sea through our ground floor window. Friendly, responsive staff. Delicious free breakfast. A/C worked fine.
One of our 3 mattresses was completely unsuable, but was changed upon request. Sheets are clean but rough and old. Lighting was sub-par: just one small desk lamp and a bare bulb hanging from the ceiling fan. Shower drain got stopped up but was quickly fixed. Showerhead is useless: we had to put a plastic bag on it to get any concentrated spray. Safe kept failing, though they eventually gave us the key.
Damp room, musty
Location is great. Walking distance to downtown.
Room is old style, untidy.
I found the hotel to be a nice place to stay, even though some reviews were not good. It was recommended by others I know in Costa Rica to stay there and took their advice. Pool is wonderful.Steam room and sauna a nice treat. They upgraded me to a suite and was very happy with my room. It was clean and comfortable with the sound of Ocean break at night. Staff were all helpful. The owner Tasos and Cecilia gave me rides to and from town various times and full of information. I enjoyed my stay. I will tell other to visit and will bring my wife and young son to visit again in the near future. Its not five stars but a nice family hotel and I found he price to be fair for this area.
I asked about the breakfast and they explained it was a continental breakfast and that the typico food was a bonus. Eggs, rice & beans plantino was something they gave as an extra because fruit, toast and cereal was not very filling. I ate it up and went for a second plate. I noted that the humidity was very high and muggy well there. I felt like I could swim through the air the time I was there. I guess it would be hard to keep up with these conditions so cant complain like others have.
Agapi is a cute, clean, simple & (very important) best value for money beachfront hotel. It's conveniently located at walking distance from both the town of Puerto Viejo and Playa Cocles, a beautiful surfing beach. Some days we'd rent bikes from the hotel to move around. Our room had fridge, stove, air conditioning, internet and a big balcony where we'd stay late at night and listen to the relaxing sound of the waves. We enjoyed their relaxing pool area, sauna and steam bath a couple of times. We'd start our day with a generous and delicious breakfast. Though we were told we'd have continental breakfast , we were treated to scrambled eggs, rice & beans, fried plantains (yam!!!) and fresh fruits instead. You should try the owner's home made jams from tropical fruits. For a vacation to be called exceptional though, there was something more than all that. Our hosts Tasos and Cecilia delivered Greek hospitality and Caribbean warmth all the way! Both fluent in English, were very helpful in every way and ready to go the extra mile to keep us happy, always with a smile. We left Agapi, with a bunch of sweet memories and definitely two new friends, which we'll be going back to meet again soon.
Location and room
breakfast was below the standard you might expect in this kind of accomodation
The location was good to town, but the natural beauty of the grounds is obliterated by the horrible conditions ...likely once a gem it is ruined by years of neglect
Dirty, dark, musty smelling... No screens on windows forcing us to use overhead air conditioning units that were freezing cold... Kitchen disgusting, fit only to store booze, would never cook there... Nothing on the beds but a fitted sheet and a folded flat on the bottom... Not made, no coverlet, and the staff looked at me like I was an alien when I insisted on a blanket...I am sure hostels have more appealing beds. Lobby smelled like cat piss which should have tipped me off, but I changed my dates at another location too often and was left with nothing but this place...but having said all this I could have made the best of it except for the fact we were gouged, pure and dimple ...over 400 for two nights for this dump they call a deluxe suite. But I would not stay there for free after this visit and I urge others not too either. Lazy, I different staff and a sad tired dirty vibe. Don't mind no frills, and am not high end at all, but this was just gross.
owner very helpful organising transport.
the walls were paper thin. Sounded like car was coming into the room when they were parking. Bed fell apart when tried to move nearer the fan!Kitchen unappetising. Did not feel like eating there or touching anything as dirty.bathroom light did not work. NOT NICE !!!
