After a horrible night at Terrazas de Ballena the stay at Alma saved our Christmas Day! Thank you!!!!!!
- clean and tranquil hotel - great cook - every day different breakfast, - very good suggestions from Dani and Allan for activities and restaurants - beautiful sunsets from our balcony
- unpaved road to get to the hotel, difficult to get there if you don´t have a 4X4 vehicle - no restaurant for dinner, thus forced to go to the overpriced sister hotel El Castillo (for the New Year dinner we paid 140 USD - no buffet and programme & dinner finished at 21.00pm). Just for comparisson, Tabacon Grand resort (one of the most expensive hotels in CR) charged us 20 USD for a great buffet dinner. - no hairdrier and TV in the rooms
Room furnishings Cleanliness Lovely pool and poolside furniture Delicious breakfast (included)
Hard to find - signage obscure
Owners are very engaging and friendly Very good dinner at El Castillo
Very steep access to the facility which needs a 4WD. Dinner was only available at the sisters location El Castillo
From the outstanding and beautiful location to the meticulous grounds to the personable and well trained staff to the clean and well done rooms all with spectacular views to the jungle areas and the ocean beyond. Don't miss this little hotel. There is a genuiness to this hotel that can only be created by owners who know and care about what they are doing. How about no motorized grounds keeping equipment while guests are at the hotel. Who does that? These owners do. Great breakfast even for a guy(me) who mainly drinks coffee and wonderful lunch and dinner a short walk or ride down the hill to El Castillo where they operate that property also. After 20 years in the hospitality business and 20 years or so dealing with income properties, I recognize quality ownership. Scott and Russel know what they are doing. Hope to be back with my wife very soon.
Liked it all
Nice view(on a cliff), nice birds, clean and comfortable room, nice pool, excellent food.
A bit remote so car is needed for everything and on our stay, the shower was out of hot water ( refreshing but cold...)
The Alma's location is beautiful with sweeping views of the ocean and jungle. It is a very relaxing place, even though the hotel was full, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The breakfasts were amazing. They make a different meal every morning.
We absolutely loved our stay at Alma. This place is a gem in Ojochal. You wake up with sound of crickets and going to bed with the most amazing bright stars and wonderful sunsets. Scott was very helpful with any questions we had and we can't wait to go back. I would recommend Alma de Ojochal to anyone.
I would make sign Alma more noticeable from the main road, we had hard time finding it the first night we arrived.
We loved the pool outside and the friendly staff. The room we received was big, clean and confortable with view on the forest and part on the ocean.
The hotel is located on an unpaved road, on a hill and it was hard for us to find it since there are not many visible signs, especially when you come in the night. We booked the guided tour to the Marine Ballena with the hotel and they did not specified from the beginning that the price communicated does not include tax and parking. We expected a bit more transperancy from the hotel side.
Breakfast was great, the place is located in the mountains. Restaurant has an amazing view in front the bay, I was not able to stay until the sunset, but I heard is worth to stay. Definitely I'll be looking into stay another time.
great atmosphere, great owner, stunning wiew from room and pool
