Fire pit in the evening was lovely. View was spectacular!
Driveway is a bit challenging, but the host was gracious and the room was lovely. Fresh roses awaited us. Room had a gas woodstove which unfortunately we used because a cold wind howled all night and drove the rain/fog sideways.
Hotel was great, but we never saw the volcano -- it was socked in by fog and rain. It was unexpectedly cold in Poas, even though it is mid-February. Bad weather is not at all unusual, I guess.
lovely family hotel run by very cordial owners. fantastic views of San Jose. very good breakfast. 3 km from Poas so one can see it before the clouds gather above.
no good dining options in the area.
Everything including the location, comfort and style of the rooms, great restaurants nearby, breakfast, the beautifully landscaped property , the animals on the farm , and two of the most gracious hosts I have ever met.
Spacious room in a very nice location
Kids loved the animals.
Nice breakfast. Very friendly intimate family run boutique hotel. Beautiful views.
Room was cold.
Lovely property. Delicious breakfast. Helpful and flexible staff. Very professional. Beautiful room!
We couldn't get the hot water working for a shower. Beds fairly uncomfortable.
Magical place with very friendly owners. The room was modern and comfortable. Lovely grounds and child friendly Traditional breakfast and good location near Poas Highly recommendable and if you are traveling with kids this is the place to book
Excellent and accommodating owner.
The staff - specifically Ramiro - was extremely helpful and welcoming. We were traveling without a car, and since the property is a bit off the beaten path, he offered to drive us to and from a restaurant for dinner, and even to and from the volcano the next day! The room was very modern, stylish, and comfortable. Breakfast was fresh and delicious.
Shortly after we arrived, during a strong storm, we lost power for a couple hours, and had to hope the local repair crew could fix it. Fortunately, they did, and in the meantime Ramiro was kind enough to buy us a battery operated lantern. However, power loss seems to be a possibility there.
Beautiful remote setting, nicely taken care of, a family love and attention to every detail. Many animals on site, donkeys, cows, dogs, loved that. Beautiiful vistas, tasteful accommodations.
Needed more availability of heat. There was an electric wood stove that barely gave heat, and no individual controls. It happened to be a very blustery, rainy day, so heat would have made it more comfy
Quiet, nice room, setting. Good breakfast.
Room was freezing when we arrived and didn't really warm up even after we put the electric heater on. Not insulated. Fridge was not on when we arrived either.
Attention to detail, beautiful clean room, quirky gardens, authentic filling breakfast.
The owners were very helpful, the breakfast was good
My boyfriend and I stayed at Roberto's beautiful hotel for one night on our way from San Jose to Arenal. I can't think of a more perfect place to start a trip to Costa Rica than the Altura Hotel. It's an easy drive from the airport with lots of good food options along the way. The grounds are amazing-- the architectural design is modern and sleek, and the surrounding farm is green and gorgeous. Breakfast is delicious, and the staff is friendly. And of course, the donkeys and cows are adorable. Oh, and the view is amazing, especially at night-- you can see down into the valley below the mountain. It's worth stopping at Volcan Poas and La Paz Waterfalls while you're in the area.
Everything was excellent.
The location, the rooms, the breakfast, the firepit, the staff, very clean, nice views
Wi-fi was out for most of a day and was a little slow. Fine
The location is perfect for an early morning visit to Poas National Park. Breakfast is excellent.
The bed was not very comfortable.
The room was very high end and comfortable and quite a surprise to find in the middle of a finca. Charming to have the animals around, lovely gardens and a fine lookout covered patio to view the Central valley. Also its very close to the volcano crater, within a 5 minute drive. The young man in charge went out of his way to give us directions to our next destination that was very helpful. Also the breakfast was good.
The fact that they did not offer an evening meal to guests as the nearby place does was a bit of an issue. They do provide a flashlight so you can hike up the hill in the dark to a bar that serves food. We did not want to risk driving back to Posito on the dark twisty road for a meal so ate a good meal at noon when we were out and brought back snacks for the evening. Also the lane into the hotel is in very poor shape but luckily we had a small SUV.
the sorrounding peace, the weather... the room was perfect... your staff was amazing!!
No restaurant at night and cable signal...
space of the room
Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful views of the city and of Poas Volcano.
It was a little tricky to find at night.
My mom and I stayed here for a night and we loved the funky artistic feel and the homey B&B vibe. Don't be fooled by the modern buildings, this has the feel of a charming Vermont B&B. We loved staying here and the staff was great!
The homemade cheese was amasing
The hotel is a great place to start your visit to the volcano at 8am opening, for best chance of seeing before clouds move in! Owners are welcoming and helpful - you feel as if you're visiting good friends.
Nothing - great location, welcoming, helpful staff, all good!
