There's a proper restaurant and a bar. The interior (common areas) design is very homely and comforting. Room has basic amenities if you're not too choosy.

It gets very warm in the room because there is no air-con. The walls are very thin and you can hear people walking and talking 2 levels down.

The rooms are comfortable and not too cramped with clean private bathrooms. There is a good atmosphere - particularly if you have a drink on the front porch. The staff are very helpful and hospitable. The breakfast is delicious - a generous buffet of cereals, bread, banana load, eggs, and coffee. We stayed on two occasions. An excellent base to do an overnight trip to Tortuguero. All in all, excellent value for money!

Receptionists spoke fluent English and very helpful on ideas to go in Costa Rica.

Everything about the hotel was wonderful. Very comfy room and bed, delicious breakfast, excellent wi-fi service, and great services from the staff. Will stay here again.

We love old refurbished buildings and this one is done with care and beauty. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Dinning room was comfortable, food was delicious and prepared nicely. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Great place to stay and not overly priced.

We liked the ease and location.The staff were friendly and the welcome drink was appreciated.We stayed there twice and really just used the hotel as a place to sleep.We were delighted to have a breakfast pack when we had an early morning start.Many thanks.The owner was friendly and was great to see him welcoming guests(would have been nice if he had actually given his name)

On our second visit we were looking forward to a nice breakfast as had time to sit and enjoy. Afraid it feel short. The fruit wasn't really ripe and there was nothing that appealed to our Australian palate.The scrambled eggs had milk floating in the bottom and to our taste everything was very bland.Even for a European palate there was cheese but no meat.We would have liked a muesli with our yoghurt.

Excellent hotel.

The room was nice, excellent wifi throughout, reception extremely helpful - they even called us to remind us that breakfast would finish in 30 minutes! Free and unexpected welcome cocktail.

The breakfast staff started clearing food away 15 minutes early, a little inconsiderate as we were still there. Everything else was good

We stayed just one night and got an upgrade for free. The Rooms was clean. The Hotel is next to the Citycentre.

This is truely a marvel in this city, almost everything was fine, friendly and clean. The breakfast buffet is great, there is book exchange and 2 internet computers besides WiFi for use. Small terrace to relax and enjoy the free welcome drink.

No way to sleep longer than 05:30 because the steadily honking train passes right in the back of the hotel (only mornings and evenings)! Plus some people add extra noise until 2 A.M. with loud talking and having sex in there room. Breakfast buffet closes sharp at 10:00, you get almost washed out with the dishes...

The beds were not comfortable (and I'm not that picky a person) and it was very, very loud (although I'm not sure that all the rooms would be this loud). That said, I'd be happy to stay at his hotel again--the staff was great, as was the location. And it's a pretty hotel.

I loved the hotel - it was charming and kept with the Victorian theme of the original house. The management and staff were very helpful and friendly. It was well situated to downtown walking/shopping/museums, etc. The restaurant was great for breakfast & dinner. I loved it and would stay there again!

Having no elevator it would have been nice to have a ramp for luggage, but the management helped me with my bags to and from the second floor so it wasn't a problem.

Staff was very nice, showed genuine care about us. Food in the restourant was great, exellent service.

Noises from trens ( the gare station is at only 50 meters from the hotel) beggining at 6 o clock in the morning, until 8 o clock at night. Lot of noise from the others rooms . Our room ( gardenia) was situaded at the end of a passage, not near from emergency exit. We asked to change but the said, the are all reserved . The room was not enough clear. We were very desapointed.

Breakfast was excellent! Delicious fresh fruit, gallo pinto, eggs, and sauteed plantains, accompanied by excellent coffee and juice. The restaurant was also the greatest for dinner--the delicious Peruvian- style tilapia was the best meal I had in Costa Rica.

The train really gets you going in the morning--no need for a wake-up call.

The t.v. in my room was older and a bit fuzzy. I'd like screens on the windows so I can open them and not worry about bugs. Not comfortable with opening them, the room was a bit stuffy. Dark approach to stairs for 3rd floor.
