Howler Monkey Hotel

Situé littéralement dans la jungle, l'hôtel permet l'observation des singes, des oiseaux et d'une flore bien particulière au Costa Rica.

Le propriétaire est saoul et gelé à longueur de journée. Il nous réveille - bière à la main - avec sa musique à fond la caisse dès 7h le matin et elle joue jusqu'à ce qu'il aille se coucher vers 19h. Impossible de s'imprégner des sons de la nature environnante. Les lits sont humides et inconfortables, munis d'un drap contour et drap plat à la propreté douteuse. Chambre avec fenêtres persiennes et ventilateur de plafond, pas de moustiquaires. La cuisinette est mal équipée. Les lieux manquent d'entretien minimal. Beaucoup de mousitiques piqueurs sur le bord de la mer caillouteuse. L'air est très humide donc attention aux asthmatiques. Ne vaut pas plus que 10$ us par personne par nuit. Jim remplit la piscine quand bon lui semble et elle n'a pas de système de filtration... C'est un hôtel pour routard seulement.

La piscine est très agréable même si elle est petite. Le patron est un personnage étonnant qui va bien avec l'ambiance très ... cool du lieux.

Pas toujours très rangé

Le Howler Monkey possède une situation exceptionnelle, à 2km du Cabo Blanco et 7km de Montezuma. Les cabines sont face à la mer avec un accès direct à la plage, la plupart du temps déserte. On est très bien accueilli par Jim, le propriétaire. Excellent contact avec ce Robinson Irlandais très sympathique et assez original, qui nous a ouvert des noix de coco fraîches et fourni gratuitement kayaks et planches de surf. La piscine et les hamacs sont particulièrement agréables après une longue journée de marche. L'établissement porte bien son nom. En effet nous avons pu apercevoir les singes hurleurs qui passent au-dessus des cabines pour passer la nuit dans les arbres quelques mètres plus loin. Pour ce qui est des cabines, elles sont propres et simples, rien de luxueux mais tout à fait correctes cependant. Étant bien orientées, nous avons eu le droit au magnifique spectacle du levé du soleil chaque matin. En bref, un superbe séjour de trois jours avec Jim et ses chiens, dans un petit bout de paradis tranquille.

We stayed there for 4 nights. We had a wonderful time watching the nature in the hotel property. My daughter loved to play in the swimming pool and watched howler monkeys were taking nap. We cooked breakfast. The supermarket, restaurant were in walking distance. We brought mosquito nets, flash light. Those were useful. While we were staying, we saw : cappuccine monkey, howler monkey, green iguana, gecko, frigate bird, humming bird, big frog(bull frog?), pelicans and few small fishes and lots of hermits crabs... We liked the environment not surrounded by lots of other tourists. It was amazing experience being in the jungle. I am so glad we took our daughter to Costa Rica nature world! Not to disney world. Thank you Jim and Roxanna! We would love to come back.

Love the location-up close and personal with Howler Monkeys! Nice pool & close to waterfront, a few restaurants and stores within walking distance.

The place could use a little tlc. Pillows were a bit lumpy and kitchen was lacking in certain dishes, glasses etc which the owner dug around and provided for us.

The Howler Monkey Hotel was simply amazing! It was by far the best place that we stayed. We only wished that we could have stayed there longer. The accommodations were simple, but comfortable. The atmosphere of the place was relaxed and like being at home (if your home was on a beautiful beach with monkeys in trees overhead!). James (the owner) was friendly and helpful, and his laid back attitude really helped create the perfect place to kick off your flip flops and just relax! The hotel is just outside of Montezuma, far enough away that you get away from the crowds of people, but close enough that you can go into town for tours and shopping if you want. Highly recommend the restaurant up the road from the hotel. Best meal we had in Costa Rica, and we ate alot while there! :) Thank you for your hospitality Jim, we loved our stay with you and will be back!

The owner was sympatic.

The cabins on the hotel photo seems nice and to offer a view to the ocean but when you get there it's very different ....You are blinded by the clutter of the hole site ! The pool was not usable, the restaurant was closed and looked like a garage ... the room had no mosquito net at the windows, even vegetation on the site was a mess ... In two worlds: The hole thing need maintenance ! And just to give you a general idea ... My girl friend was scared to stay there and had problem falling a sleep. She was on the side of crying. We have been there only one night and were happy to leave ...

Jim, der Besitzer ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Viele kostenlose Möglichkeiten wie Schnorchelausrüstung, Seekajaks, Mountainbikes, etc. Sehr sicher, da in ganz ruhiger Umgebung am"end of the road" weit abseits von touristischem Trubel. Tolle Vegetation mit Affen (machen dem Namen der Unterkunft alle Ehre), Leguanen und vielen Vogelarten. Bei Ebbe nur Felsen, aber sauberer Pool und Richtung Montezuma ein paar schöne Sandstrände. Wir waren 5 Nächte dort, mit jedem Tag haben wir uns wohler gefühlt. Ein paar einfache, aber günstige und gute Restaurants sind gut fußläufig erreichbar, ebenso Einkaufsmöglichkeiten für Selbstversorgung. Jederzeit wieder.

De cabane was netjes , daar zorgde een plaatselijke dame voor.

Toen we aankwamen om in te checken na een lange vermoeiende rit vonden we de eigenaar in de zetel buiten zo stonend als iets. We vroegen of we iets konden drinken aan de bar maar dat ging niet , hij had niets in huis vermits hij een drankprobleem had. Het is niet omdat we wat ouder zijn dat we ouderwetse opvattingen hebben maar erover is erover. We hebben dan maar ons plan getrokken .

Absolutely nothing! Hotel is not as advertised at all. The pictures the owner is using are deceiving. Keeping this hotel on your site will only damage Booking.com's reputation. I think the owner means well and has a nice dog, but would remove listing from your site until the owner makes significant improvements and gets hotel back up to what he is advertising. I honestly think the owner needs to be told exactly what he needs to do to make his place liveable for guest or you will continue to get complaints about this place. He probably doesn't realize how bad and run down his place has become

The hotel was not advertised at all. The pictures are very decieving. Place is very run down, bug infested. If you are expecting a quaint bungalow in the jungle, you will be very disappointed. The place is very dirty, sheets were stained and ratty. Yuck! My son got bed bug bites. Cabins were full of insects and cob webs. There was some one else fecies in the toilet that my husband had to plunge. We were afraid to shower. And walk barefoot in the cabin becuase of all of the dead bugs everywhere and besides that it was all around filthy. The kitchen is not a kitchen. Frige looks like it was picked up from the side of the road and painted white, there was an infestation of some kind of bug (looked like hornets) under the kitchen counter which also looked like some one else left over mica just slapped down held up by some disgusting dirty shelves with dishes, pots and pans that were equally as disgusting. The toilet and sink leaking were minor in comparison to all of the other issues. The Pool is in ill repair. The jacuzzi was drained because it probably doesn't work. Pool only 3/4 of the way filled with water. Cabins don't look as advertised in the pictures, no pretty towels folded on the beds. My son's bed was uneven, so shook back and forth the whole night. The laquer is peeling off of the steps on the way up to the sleeping area. If the owner would put screens on the window you could actually get a nice cross breeze in the night time. No way you could bar-b-q there and to top it off, all night, the owner had music playing outside his bar area which made sleeping impossible, along with the filth and bugs. We got out of there as soon as we had enough light to see the dirt road out of that place. I wouldn't pay 10cents to stay there and certainly not $70/night. What a rip off.

We were right on the ocean and that was delightful. We were close to a major reserve (the first in Costa Rica) and were able to bike there with nice mountain bikes provided by the owner. We had the opportunity to kayak and to snorkel also provided as part of staying at the hotel. There are many, many howler monkeys here and other wildlife and birds. The owner has an enthusiastic and helpful attitude toward his customers. He picked us up when we arrived in Montezuma exhausted from Monteverde and he provided great information about getting around in general.

There were some things that were in disrepair and we were frustrated by this. Do not come to this hotel for a luxurious experience. On the nights we were there, the very loud howling of the monkeys made it quite difficult to sleep. This proximity to monkeys is very cool in theory, but not restful at 3 am.
