The room was bigger than I expected, nice hot shower, comfortable beds. We were late for breakfast but they were so nice to still serve us a nice breakfast. The owner is very helpfull when it comes to information and booking activities.
- Clean - Good location - friendly and helpful staff
- a bit loud. The walls are thin voices/steps carry sound across rooms. Hotel next door has a pation next to the rooms at Mar Inn so it can get noisy.
My boyfriend and myself were so happy with this place we could not believe it was as it was for the price we paid. It's the best value for money I've had throughout a 3 months trip across Central America. 1. Anthony is super helpful, friendly and welcoming, plus he speaks very good English if your Spanish is not great. He can help you organizing all sort of tours from there. 2. The room was clean, spacious and aside of the basic stuff it also icluded a very large bathroom, hot water, a decent hairdryer, a safe, a fridge and plenty of crisp white towels (all things we got used to do without for that sort of price). 3. The location was perfect! Just 5 minutes walk from all the shops and restaurants in Santa Elena, but separated enough to be quiete. 4. The breakfast, included in our room fare was delicious and filling (best gallo pinto I had!) and you could choose through a few different options. 5. The free wi-fi worked perfectly in our room, I have to say it was the best and most reliable we've had throughout this trip. If you're looking for a party type of lodging, this is not for you (although you'll get plenty of options in the nearby town), but other than that I cannot fault this place and I'd recommend it to anyone staying in the area.
I have no negative comments at all!
Staff very helpful with finding tours and giving advice on what to visit. They are very friendly. Comfortable rooms and safe. Breakfast was delicious with pancakes and fruit and eggs. Reasonably close to Monteverde park and very close to downtown Santa Elena.
Parking was tricky with only 3 spots for all rooms, and cannot park in the street. The rooms were a little small but comfortable. No refrigerator or microwave in our room.
Mar Inn is in a quiet location, but close to the Center of Santa Elena (5 minutes walk). Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and gave us good advice on activities we could do.
Our door was next to the entrance and not well isolated. So it was noisy at night when guests came back from town. Rooms in the upper floor are probably more quiet.
- rooms are not very big, but clean - beds are decent - Anthony was very helpfull and friendly - nice pancakes
- shower was not very hot (but not cold eather) - breakfast was less than the standard gallo pinto breakfast we got in other places (but good and fresh)
We really like hotel "mar inn" and from the moment we got there we felt like home. Anthony and Tatiana were great hosts, they suggested tours that were great And made great breakfast with big variety of choice. The room was very nice and clean, the hotel is locate in nice area and very close to city center. We have no doubt that we will return to thia hotel. Was great!
We liked everything
The Mar Inn is a great value B&B because it is quiet but close to everything in Santa Elena. They serve tasty breakfasts and provide assistance for all Monteverde activities.
- anthony is a very friendly and helpful guy, he answered all our questions and helped us to organise the tours we wanted to do - room was spacious, had all facilities and was cleaned every day - very nice breakfast - very close to the center of town, must check out restaurant Morpho if you are there because of the excellent food and service!!
The owner and his son were very helpful in assisting us with booking our zip lining and horse back riding tours. The room was very reasonably priced and the breakfast was very good!
The man at the desk was very pleasant and helpful. He found information for us and also made reservations for tours and transport. Breakfast was nice. Enjoyed the rocking chairs on the balcony. Quiet location a bit above the town, but still an easy walk.
Great value. Room was clean and functional but not fancy. Free breakfast was excellent. Anthony was very helpful in arranging activities. Location was convenient except the last 100 feet of unpaved rutted road.
We loved how close we were to everything we wanted to do - zip lining, hiking, coffee tours, horseback riding, etc. Anthony was delightful and full of great advice about things to see and do and eat. He went out of his way to make our time in Santa Elena the best it could be.
The walls and floors are thin so if you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend bringing earplugs.
I chose the Mar Inn based on the reviews I read, which were all accurate. The staff was extremely friendly and hospitable and went above and beyond to accommodate any wishes (special thanks to Anthony). The amenities and hotel room were spacious, clean and had everything one could ask for (personally all I really care for are clean sheets and towels and hot showers). I did also appreciate the complementary tee and coffee by the reception. Our room also had a flat screen TV and a mini bar (which we didn't need). The location within Santa Elena was convenient. I would highly recommend Mar Inn to anybody who wants to visit the area.
Whilst we didn't hear any noise from other rooms within the hotel, there was quite some street noise (which probably is unavoidable anywhere in Santa Elena).
Staff, location, breakfast, room... everything!! Great value for money
Antony was awesome. He recommended and organized tours for us as soon as we got there. Plus he even emailed me in advance so I had an idea. This was my favorite stay in Costa Rica and the most affordable.
It was perfectly located, just a walkable distance (uphill) outside of the main part of town. Staff was friendly and I would stay there again.
The only down point was that they convinced us to book transport to tamarindo through them and not interbus. Big mistake, this shuttle service was awful and just as expensive as interbus.
Nicely located just above Santa Elena, a 5 minute walk into town. Staff super helpful and took great care of us.
The staff hère very helpful to enlighten the visit in Santa Elena It was very nice on their part to offer me their services via email before my arrival. Will recommande to m'y friendster any time
The staff was very helpful. The complimentary breakfast was great and loved our room.
Was a bit out of the center of town (which wasn't bad) but it was a climb to get back to hotel.
The owner was extremely nice and helped with directions, etc. The house is at a different location from the lodge and it is where one of the night tours begin. The owner has two dogs at the house and they were the sweetest dogs and the biggest plus for our little girl. There is a washer dryer at the house which also a big plus. We were very happy with the accommodation.
Our front porch area for our room. I also liked the location in regards to Santa Elena central town area.
No shampoo available.
Family run, very competent, friendly and helpful for organising daytrips, and finding places in town. Rooms are clean, spacious and safe.
First room I stayed in was quite noisy, thin walls and close to reception and parking
The owner nand his son were very cooperative and sympathetic. Breakfast is very good
No english channel on tv
The staff spoke perfect English but also encouraged me with some slow and clear Spanish for the bits I could manage. Tour recommendations were good, I enjoyed all of them. There was always someone smiling and helpful on reception. I loved the balcony with rocking chair.
Not a dislike so much as a warning: The hotel is 5 minutes up a very steep hill from the centre of town and the last part is unsealed with no footpath, so a nightmare with a suitcase and hard work with a heavy backpavk. If you arrive by bus, take one of the many taxis touting for business as the bus rolls in, it's really worth the c800!
