Very close to the airport in taxi and 15 mins walk from the bus station to san José. Nice and clean room , TV, hot water. Very helpful and friendly staff and good breakfast. I'll come again next time I 'need a flight.

Staff was friendly, helpful and excellent. Great breakfast. Nice modern bathroom.

Bedroom carpet was thin and didn't cover the whole room. Staff arranged a taxi to the airport and the driver was dishonest. He would not use the meter (we asked him to but he spoke only Spanish and pointed to his watch) and wanted $20 because we made a small detour that resulted in additional 0.7 km and 5 minutes. Many internet sites indicates cab fare of $5-7 from SJO to Alajuela. Isabel quotes approx. $8 on her website, which is not unreasonable as the B&B is outside of downtown and slightly farther. However, it's outrageous to charge $20 for a total distance of 4.6 km (2.86 miles) --this includes the detour. We refused to pay and both the driver and my husband were on the phone with Isabel at the same time. Isabel eventually convinced the driver to accept $10. At the end we paid him $12 and he was still angry! The arguing and ensuing upset was a horrible way to end a lovely stay. We've seen cab drivers ripping off tourists in San Jose but did not expect this in Alajuela. esp. from a cab that the B&B works with. Get your own cab (lots of them at the park around the corner on the main road, Parque Palmares) who uses the meter. Do not be ripped off!!

I stayed at Vida Tropical 3 separate nights during my stay in Costa Rica - twice with a friend and once with my boyfriend. The B&B fit my needs well as I was not looking for luxury, but a comfortable, safe, affordable place to stay near the airport. I cannot say enough to say how great and helpful Isabel (the owner) was. She had a taxi pick us up from the airport, greeted us warmly each time we arrived, answered all of our questions and helped us in whatever way we needed (food, taxis, suggestions on where to go, when to arrive to the airport, etc.). Her husband owns a restaurant nearby (Jalapenos) that we visited and on my second stay she arranged for us to have carryout delivered by a taxi. The food was so good and it was so convenient (especially getting in after dark after a day of traveling) that I did this my last night there, as well. To be clear, she wasn't pushing her husband's restaurant - she double checked on my third night to make sure I didn't want something different. Isabel's staff took care of things when she wasn't around with no problems.

It is about a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the airport, which is very close and perfectly convenient. There isn't really much to do in the Alajuela airport (that I discovered, anyway) but that didn't bother me because I was just held over there and wasn't expecting to be too entertained. Just be aware that not all taxis in the area will know the B&B by name, so you'll want to have the (approximate) address on hand just in case.

Loved how convenient it was to town, 10-15 min walk and they had an excellent map of the town

I was in the Garden room. The worst was that the shower ran icy cold or burning hot and was very difficult to regulate. I also had to get a staff person to turn off the shower as I could not and it was not exactly easy for him either. Ants all over the room. No Wifi in room as the wire was broken--wonder how long it has been broken. Had to sit in living room to access Wifi while owner and friend chatted in Spanish, for a long time, very uncomfortable for me. They need to fix the Wifi in room. Overall not the best deal to me. I was glad to leave.

I loved my stay here, especially due to the owner, Isabel. She is so friendly and welcoming. When we booked she emailed us a document with information about Alajuela and flying into Costa Rica, she also booked us a taxi from the airport. She answered all of our questions upon arrival and really went out of her way to make us feel at home!

The beds were slightly uncomfortable, however, I slept okay and I still think it was good for the money we spent.

I liked the homey feel, cool paintings, lovely backyard with rabbits, quaint hammock on terrace, wonderful views from upstairs and delicious breakfasts.

Had to pay for taxi from the airport - really wasn't far and the Vida was much much better than a chain hotel.
