Our room was pretty nice but at this price we've had much better.
We contacted the hotel before arriving to inquire about dinner reservations since we were traveling over the new years holiday and new it would be crowded (the resort is on a large plantation and far removed from any other businesses so eating at the resort is really the only option). No one ever got back to us and so once we arrived the 3 restaurants were booked solid each night we were there. We were forced to eat sub-par sushi in the lobby one night, practically microwaved pizza another night and were able to slip in at 9:45 to a buffet that closed at 10pm our final night. Completely unacceptable for this price point. I also emailed prior to arriving about arranging a private yoga class for new years day and was never received a reply. Room cleanings weren't done until 2 or 3 in the afternoon and room service from breakfast was never cleared 2 days in a row. One day we were not supplied with new towels even though they had been requested. Requests via the concierge were basically pointless as we ended up having to attempt to make reservations on our own. The fire alarm went off for 10 minutes during a 90 minute massage, which was just a false alarm, but no additional time was added to the massage. Wait staff at the beach seemed as if they hardly wanted to serve anyone. When asked for a menu we were told the waitress would be back in a minute and we didn't see her for the rest of the day- instead we personally went and ordered our lunch, which isn't a problem if there aren't servers just standing around talking amongst themselves. All in all it was the poorest service I have ever received at a hotel of this price point. I have stayed at lesser hotels and received far better service from the staff. Had I wanted the type of service I received I would have stayed at a worse hotel downtown, not one that is trying to define itself as the finest resort on Curacao.
I like the service, at shore restaurant and at the beachbar. The make us young couple feel like king and queen. The bedroom was very nice, i love the bath very much.
Only thing. I have write that it was our 2 anniversary , i did expect that we will receive something nice on our bed or something nice when we went to eat at shore or by the breafkast. Because usualy when it is your birthday i know by other hotels you receive a cake or something. When its a anniversary you need to make the couple feel more special. That why people notify that it is them birthday or anniversary
Very Modern Hotel Onsite Food Options Clean Beach Very Nice Staff
$15 a day for Wifi is criminal Far away from the main road and town Expensive food options
Facilities are beautiful. Staff is warm and accommodating. Everything was wonderful. Very nice location.Great pool and great privet beach.
The food is quite expensive.
Staff very friendly Very nice location & facilities
17% service charge + 7 tax US$ 15 a day wifi charge Food is mediocre @ high price (US$ 30) for a hamburger
The resort is excellent, with great facilities and a staff that is willing to help you anytime.
The food is quite expensive and the resort doesn't offer many alternatives. The buffet at lunch is a only fair pizza with salad that doesn't worth the amount charged. Nice sushi bar.
Great Hotel Beach & Pool, Gym
No free Internet in the room
Excellent facilities; great service. A quiet and calm environment. Nice food and cocktails. Great to enjoy for several days (3 or more) and with the family or couple.
Its 35-40min away from the main city; its better to rent a car to move around.
The wifi is not free but it's very fast and $84USD/week was a good deal. It meant you could use it anywhere in the resort, not just the room. Staff were lovely. Spa treatment (manicure) was great.
People put their towels on the limited number of comfy sun-beds early (9am-ish), go have breakfast and often don't return until 11:30am. We watched this happened at least 2-3 mornings. Not fair. Staff needs to be more aware of this.
Like the place a lot is quiet and peacefully to relax a busy mind after a ruff day .
I think the wi-fi charge should be included in the room daily charge.
It was a beautiful full service resort with a great golf course. The rooms are spacious with your own balcony. Great pool and great privet beach. Free wifi in the main lobby.
You could tell that this place needs a steady management in every way then it will be a success. The service is quite slow, long waits on food, drinks, house keeping. Food a little overpriced for what you get. You definitely need a car if you wanna see the rest of curaçao (which is not really a dislike).
There need to be 24 hour hotel transportation to other places on the island or to the town
Everything is great in the hotel.
unfortunately the Beds were not comfortable. extremaly soft and were like an hamaca.
Great room with a luxury finish, excellent kingsize bed. Loved the premises: beautiful white sandy beach, nice to go snorkeling and suitable for little kids. Good variety of breakfast choices (although to expensive if you ask me). Loved the icecream at the pizzaria. Would advise you to rent a car as the premises are very remote (driveway to hotel alone is 5km)
Price of breakfastmenu, although there is a great choice of variety and the food tastes excellent, I just don't eat enough for it to be worth $27 p.p.p.d.
Super friendly staff, great accommodation, crazy good value
Could have had some simple food options in the bar area
Private resort and beach area, away from other resorts. Great for relaxing.
Had a great sushi restaurant named Jun - but was only open 3 evenings a week. Wish it was open everyday.
I loved the great room in the entrance. It was a beautiful place to lounge around with a cocktail during sunset. Also, there is free wifi in this room. Our own room was spacious, nice furniture and a beautiful view from the balcony. The beach right outside the hotel was really great. Some people might find it remote, because it is, but we enjoyed the opportunity to get away from it all and relax.
I have several of the staff's names recorded and will include them in a letter I'll be sending to the resort. I'll also be mentioning them all in a review I'll do on trip adviser. This is how passionate we are about our experience at Santa Barbara Resort. We don't have the time or the money to travel as often as we'd like so out trips are extremely important for us. Your entire staff made us feel comfortable and welcome from our first greeting at check-in till check -out. Thanks to all of you for a wonderfully relaxing vacation. We were treated like royalty. Julia and Darrell
The hotel staff goes above and beyond to ensure your visit is unforgettable. Jaymie Shardy Stephy and Ela at the front desk all examples of outstanding staff...we loved the service
A resort like this should do more in terms of transportation to the city which is only twenty minutes away. After 11pm at night you're paying a cab $15 to get on or off the resort. If you don't mind driving they offer a rental car service but who wants to risk driving late night on a foreign road which.
It was a beautiful resort and well guarded, it gave us a safe feeling.
The ac set too high and controlled by front desk, the price increase due to Jazz Festival, we were there for a funeral, not the festival. Lack of sufficient staff, in restaurants during the crowded period and overpriced period. Not enough high seating for the elderly in pool and beach area.
We were there to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday from 7/11/14 to 7/17/14. The resort is absolutely breathtaking...beach is beautiful; security gate was a plus; every staff member we encountered was extremely outstanding, especially at Medi: (MaryAnn, Jonathan the Chef, Mark, Duhty(?), Angela, Karen(?), the cleaning crew--including the groundsmen); the little cafe with the gelato, etc; food at Medi was excellent (albeit limited); loved the live entertainment on Tuesday night...would have loved another night of that!
Although Curacao is considered to be a Caribbean island, the re sort did not even bend (let alone cater) to Caribbean clientele--very disappointing. Also, transport to town was outrageously expensive ($22 US/person return...we were not comfortable with riding the bus); Even though the food was very tasty, the Medi restaurant dinner menu choices were very limited; there was no free wifi in the rooms; we were charged for beach towels; there was always an extremely long wait for food in the 3 restaurants. We felt like hostages on the compound because we wanted to experience the night life in Curacao but the resort was not very accommodating...offered no suggestions, and basically advised us we were on our own.
Given our first impression of the island which was slightly disappointing Santa Barbara Resort gave us a true feeling of the caribbean way to live, with all it's beauty of the sea, the food and friendliness of the people.
Nothing to do with the hotel but with the history of the island and the fate of the original inhabitants and the strong influence of the western world.
