Scharloo, the area where the hotel is located, is a little run down. We were warned about possible confrontations, however, we had no problems. We did not venture out into Scharloo late at night.
The kitchen had few pans and cooking utensils. The stove did not light, we had to use matches. I told the cleaning person about the stove, she said someone would look into it, that did not happen.
There are no supplies to clean dishes, soap, wash cloth, etc. We rinsed the dishes where appropriate, cups, etc., and left the remainder in the sink, assuming the cleaning crew would take care of it. They were still in the sink after cleaning. I did not inquire about supplies.
The hotel is an old building, a lot of exposed wood. Our room had a private balcony, very nice. The location was a short walk to the pedestrian bridge over the canal right to the center of Punda. The main harbor inlet and the pontoon bridge to Otrabanda Willemstad is a short walk.
The garden area was quiet and relaxing, surrounded by climbing flowers and had a small pool about 5 feet deep. Song birds were in abundance.
There was a grill/smoker available for guests, we didn't get a chance to try it. The fish market and floating markets are a block or two away, plenty of options for food.
The hotel provided a very secure feeling, security was on sight and the fence gate was locked in the evenings with a key provided to guests.
The reception staff was great. Very personable and accommodating. We had a problem with our airline and they assisted with calling the airline.
The room, the deluxe queen, had a full kitchen, not that well equipped, but had a full refrigerator and coffee pot.
This is not a deluxe hotel. The building is old. It is an attractive older building, a lot of character, charming. We loved the look and feel.
