Alster-Hof    

Location was excellent. 2 mins walk from Stephansplatz and 10 mins from Dammtor station. Near to the Alster lake where fireworks can be seen. Just next to the opera theatre and eating places. Nicely decorated hotel with antique-like furniture. Staff was friendly and speaks English. Spacious room and bath. Good breakfast with hot items. It's perfect!

Room wasn't sound proof but that's not a big issue. No wifi in room.

I felt welcome like home, the staff were nice and gentle. The gym and sauna place were newly furnished, especially the breakfast was full of variety choices. Hotel is just 2mins-walk to Alster lake, close to all the shopping area and city hall.

Nothing to complain except the changeable weather of Hamburg.

Wi-Fi poor and one should not be asked to pay for it in a hotel in this day and age. First time this has happened to me in some time.

The grumpy guy at the reception more or less blamed me for the fact that he made a mistake with the bill. Weird! Beds were not that comfortable.

Location was perfect, right in the heart of things but not noisy at night. Breakfast was included and had a massive variety of choice.

The bar was closed on 2 nights of our stay!

Exceeded my expectations. Was allowed to check-in shortly before the advertised time, quiet room at back as requested, large room and large bathroom. Very helpful staff. Above average buffet breakfast with a variety of bowls of fruit such as prunes and fresh pineapple. And a radio as well as TV in the room, a radio is so much better than foreign television stations. 100 yards to Stephanplatz U-bahn station and a short walk to the Alster Lake, Jungfernstieg, and the centre of Hamburg.

Good location immediately close to the U-Bahn and S-Bahn. Friendly staff. Above-average breakfast.

Location is excellent, a short and very scenic walk from the Hauptbahnof and shopping centre. Facilities in the hotel were very good, the breakfast was fine and the cleaning staff are extremely quick and thorough. Hamburg is an expensive city so I would consider the Alster Hof pretty good value for money.

The Location, easy to the train buses and just in the city center. With all the restaurant next door. This is my second time in it.

Room at the front of the hotel incredibly noisy due to traffic outside - late at night and early morning too. No AC so had to have window open so sleep not easy. I didn't however ask for a quiet room and managed OK. Not a room for light sleepers though!

Excellent location close to the beautiful Alster lake and Rathaus square and within walking distance of most of the main sights of the city. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby and one of the tour buses has a stop right outside which is handy! Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was good. We would stay here again on a return visit to Hamburg.

The only drawback was lack of airconditioning - it was hot when we were there and we needed the windows wide open whenever we were in the room.

Close to the Alster, City center, Dammtor train station, Conference Center and Fairground, Shopping areas so it has a good location. The rooms are nice and modern with a design touch. Well insulated windows. Very clean. The staff a little stiff, not particularly friendly but nothing bad to say about it. Breakfast was very good with lots of nice fresh fruit.

No free WiFi. Allway, reception and staircase a little used up, need a refresher and it stinks of sigar smoke - not overwhelming but noticeable. Parking possible for loading and unloading but then the car needs to be moved to a different (paying) parking - but this is typical of big European cities.

Breakfast was great. The fitness center was clean with well maintained equipment.

The staff was professional and friendly. The room was clean with a good shower (important!) The room had a fridge where I could store my soy milk, which makes things a lot easier (I buy a couple of things from the fridge as well as incentive for them to keep it ;-).

The only downside was the lack of drawers and shelves. I don't like to live out of a suitcase, even for a weekend, but there was only a cupboard where you could hang things, not a single drawer for sock or bits and pieces. For a short stay that's only a minor inconvenience, but I would think twice about staying there for more than a few days, the mess would probably drive me crazy...
