This 5-star international luxury design hotel is located in the historic quarter of Hamburg, and boasts a terrace running directly alongside the Alster canal.

Come and stay in the Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall, and enjoy the city-centre location directly parallel to the Neuer Wall street with its luxury boutiques, and very close to the Alsterhaus traditional department store.

You are within walking distance of Hamburg’s main sights and attractions, such as the Rathaus (1 minute), River Alster (5 minutes), the port or the historic Speicherstadt (10 minutes).

You will appreciate the excellent public transport connections. Outside your door you will find the sightseeing bus stop, the Stadthausbrücke city railway (S-Bahn) station or the Rödingsmarkt underground railway (U-Bahn) station.

Relax in the large (490 m²) spa area, complete with a swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, Kneipp cure, plunge pool and gym with modern cardio machines.

Hotel guests can also take it easy in the library where you can enjoy soft drinks as well as logging onto the internet for free.

Seven Heads – this bar serves refined cocktails and fine drinks from 09:00 until 02:00. Enjoy the evening sun on the terrace alongside the Alster canal.

Area information

The Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall is within walking distance of the most famous shopping streets and sights in Hamburg.

The Gänsemarkt (literally: geese market) is a triangular square near the Hamburg State Opera House. Many shopping arcades and the famous Jungfernstieg run unto the Gänsemarkt.

The Alter Wall and Neuer Wall streets lead directly to the Jungfernstieg, which is on the Alster canal. To the south are many shops, boutiques and jewellers, as well as the renowned Alterhaus department store.

For us almost too modern: We did not get two beds or at least a bed with two covers and two matelases and theirfore my friend sleept on one of the sofas.

that they had set up the bed for my five year old daughter and that they had a little robe, little slippers and a very sweet teddy bear called Vanilla waiting for her. It really made her day! I was also very pleasantly surprised that a hotel chain set for business people catered in this much detail for children.

The only thing was that there was a clear glass partition between the bedroom and the shower so the your privacy was somewhat infringed !

Being welcomed at the hotel in a very friendly and polite way throughout the short stay. The reception staff had always a nice word, recommended something, took time, simply took care of their customer in a professional way. The room was excellent, nothing was missing, and everything worked. One of the hotels I would certainly recommend, and I have not even mentioned the location and parking.

I booked a non-smoking room, once arrived I was placed in a room that stank of smoke. Was informed that there was no other rooms available and then the receptionist tried to claim that I had smoked in the room and that it was my fault. (I have never smoked once in my life) After more complaining I was eventually put in a different room but when I went to collect the key I was still being blamed.

Nice modern hotel with great spa and pool facilities, lovely room with door opening onto the river and the staff were very helpfull. Great location to city centre.
