Score from 505 reviews Very good
Clean and hospitable hotel. Friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. Good breakfast value - boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, cereals, decent coffee. Central location, 5 minutes from the central station. OK restaurants on Lange Reihe - recommend Vasco da Gama for Portuguese style seafood.
Gritty neighborhood with lots of unemployed immigrants hanging around. Men drinking on the street. (Minor for us - maybe more disconcerting for others.)
Very dated bathroom
Cheap but very basic. The area around is not very nice indeed, but the worst bit of it concentrates in some distance from the hotel: around Hansaplatz. Breakfast is not elaborated but good and filling enough. Now they serve both coffee and tea at your wish.
The distance from the main station is the only thing that i loved.
There is a pub just in front of the hotel, and the hotel is near the red light area. u can see prostitutes all around the place, so if u r a girl traveler or u are travelling with girls please avoid this place at all cost.
Nice plain hotel, clean. All necessary facilities to sleep 1-2 night. Friendly staff. Reasonable value for this money for the center of the city.
Location a bit. On the one hand the hotel is very close (5-7 min. walk) to the main train station but on the other also - to some 'special' bars. Looks like it's safe but I feel a bit uncomfortable coming back alone around 10 p.m.
very well located
very small room, poor breakfast (no choices of bread)
very careful staff
The location was perfect: close to Metro Station, supermarkets and restaurants. I could also keep up to date my swimming training, because a swimming academy was nearby. I could see a lot of prostitution but I never felt any threat.
No cups for drinking water.
Friendly staff, clean room, enough space in room, good desk, adequate electric sockets, comfortable bed, very good shower, internet in room (except for malfunction late afternoon and early evening), good maps of central Hamburg available free.
Toilet space too narrow. chair in room too low for desk, no choice of tea at breakfast (only coffee), internet didn't work adequately late afternoon and early evening, prostitutes persistenty soliciting in the street (but that's not the hotel's fault).
The Astoria is excellent value for money. It is within easy reach of the station, but in a somewhat dodgy neighbourhood. Consequently, the room prices are much lower than the prices for rooms of similar quality in other hotels just a few streets away. I had no problems at all walking around outside; during my two nights the street outside was quiet; none of the other guests was unruly. For some reason my room was described as ‘simply furnished room with a private bathroom’. Bedroom and bathroom were just as spacious and neat and pleasant as in other Hamburg hotels that charge at least 50% more without disclaimers such as ‘simply’. So, brilliant value!
No complaint at all.
Quite close to main station, about 5-10 minutes' walk.
Really small room! Cash only. Too expensive for the room. But maybe all the hotels are more expensive than usual in the traveling period.
Friendly staff and very helpfull. Simple and unpretentious breakfast. Clean room. The hotel is in the middle of international entertainment area. Very central location.
Staff does not speak much English except one person, however it worked fine. Poor parking facilities around (not the hotel responsibility though). Pity the hotel doesn't accept any credit cards.
Five minutes walk to Central Station Hamburg
