The only downside for me was the huge down filled pillow. As soon as you put your head on it, it collapsed. The only solution was to roll some of it up to create a ledge for my head, which worked, but always felt like a waste. No doubt they are a local "fashion" which I couldn't understand.
The hotel is located in the quiet, modest village of Albersdorf. They kept in touch with me by e-mail after the booking was made and welcomed my brother and me on arrival.
Our visit took place during a hot spell, and even though the rooms were not air conditioned, they were always cool, provided one took the advice to close blinds and curtains when out.
The grounds of the hotel were charming, with a series of tall shady trees surrounded by grass with tables and chairs on the perimeter. My room was double, even though I had booked a single, and was spacious, well appointed, and well maintained.
We breakfasted at 8.00 a.m. and normally our rooms had been cleaned and towels changed by 9.00 a.m. - very impressive.
I have little German, and the staff at the hotel had only modest English. Nevertheless, with good will on both sides, we communicated well - always a good sign.
The purpose of our visit was to commemorate the tenth anniversary of our father's death on a cruise ship in the locks at the Kiel Canal. I doubt therefore that I shall ever go back. Nevertheless, to anyone visiting the charms of Schleswig Holstein, I cannot recommend this hotel too highly.
