Picture-postcard Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t fancy walking, a funicular railway goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful gardens to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!
At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are pavement cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.
A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.
Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its twin city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).
The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodation on Booking.com
Christmas Market and all the wonderful Christmas shops.
Christmas Market and all the wonderful Christmas shops. Castle, funicular railway and the Old Town. The riverside, cafes and lovely restaurants, and just wandering through alleyways and coming upon lovely finds. Super friendly people and feeling really safe.

Heidelberg is a beautiful City.
Heidelberg is a beautiful City. You can't visit and have a bad time if you enjoy culture and exploration!
Choosing the right accommodation for you always helps of course but the City itself is enough to lift anyone's spirits.
Of course the castle on the hill was beautiful as you would expect. I knew it would look amazing up there before we went, and still wasn't prepared for how magnificent it was. The views from the castle were so scenic, I facetimed home to show them, which you were able to do up a mountain because there was 5G connection everywhere.
It is one of those places where if you do it right, you get to know the culture and understand it very quickly and immerse yourself in it.
Would highly recommend visiting at Christmas time.

Heidelberg is a beautiful town. I went at Christmas time and the Christmas market was lovely to see. The streets were all decorated in a festive style. The trams are a very good way of getting around.

A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must.
A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must. You can walk up a rather steep cobbled road, or get the funicular railway. Pay into the castle, or walk the grounds for free. The castle is derelict and uninhabited but the majority of the structure still stands. The view from the garden terrace in the grounds looking down the Rhine and over the old town is fabulous. There are plenty of opportunities to walk alongside the river either side of the old bridge. Lots of places to eat from snack bars and bakeries to restaurants and bars. A 2 day visit was ample for us

Lovely old town and pedestrian walkway.
Lovely old town and pedestrian walkway. Interesting cafes and bars. Architecture was pleasing. Walking along the river was interesting and especially enjoyed the cruise on the Neckar River - although could have benefited by having food or snacks on the boat.

We were in Heidelberg only one night, travelling to France.
We were in Heidelberg only one night, travelling to France.
The big aula in the Heidelberg university is impressive.
Hauptstrasse, pub, ... there were more places to see but we did not have enough time.
The hotel with a delightful restaurant is in a lovely location and it is easy to get into the centre of Heidelberg by tram. The room which my son and I slept in was very basic, quiet and had 2 beds which we wanted. It was also great to have a kettle so we could have a cup of tea in the morning. The check in was easy and fast which we liked. We asked the owner if we could leave our luggage the next day while we looked around Heidelberg and we picked it up later which was very kind of him.
Everything! It’s a really good hotel - small and friendly with very helpful staff. There’s onsite parking for a reasonable cost and the bus to the old town stops just across the road and runs until midnight. The journey takes under 10 minutes. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel overlooks the river Neckar (next time we’ll book a room with a river view) and was easy to find. Heidelberg is a lovely city and well worth a visit.
The hotel is fairly new. It is clean and well maintained.
The halls are quiet, and you do not hear your neighbors.
There is a communal kitchen that is well stocked with pots and pans and dishes, etc.
The concept is unique, but we always found it to be very clean and tidy.
The clientele of the guests is varied, from packpackers to business people to families and groups in every age category.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to th main transit station of Heidelberg.
The hotel-pub is directly on the main historic shopping street, so everything you wish to see in historic Heidelberg is only a short walk away. The hotel has a private entrance from the street accessible with a key, so you do not have to enter or exit through the pub. The room rates are very reasonable.
We were concerned the noise from the pub would be loud with the windows open at night, but it was not a problem.
Excellent and modern hotel in Heidelberg's newly built Bahnstadt living suburb. Best to take a car or public transport to reach the old town or the Palace however (4-5 km away). Hotel was superb - excellent and plentiful breakfast, nice staff, great parking, very cool room in a heatwave, great amenities. Loved it. The area also had restaurants and even some friday night happenings so being remote wasn't a problem.
An absolutely wonderful location. Super easy to get to the hotel from the train station and from the hotel to the city centre. A totally cool idea combining the hotel suite and the kitchen. The beds were comfy as well as the pillows. Our room was clean and cosy. It overlooked the inner garden. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I will definitely choose this hotel for my another trip to Heidelberg.
washer/dryer access was wonderful! garage, surprisingly, was not oversubscribed, so the last day when it rained, we were able to park inside and keep us and our suitcases dry. breakfast was fine, but too expensive, with warm croissants! filled up, though, and we had to leave and return 20 minutes later.
room, though small, had a huge balcony, in rainy Germany.
This sweet hotel above a wonderful German restaurant was perfect for a visit to lovely Heidelberg. I enjoyed the geraniums outside my windows and the cobbled street outside the door. We were so close to all the charms of the old city. My husband needed the lift. We were greeted warmly and Dennis was very helpful when I wanted to walk to the castle.
We love getting over jet lag in Heidelberg at the Hotel am Schloss. Daily breakfast is perfect and with a view! Parking is on-site and they offer a discount. It's next to the train for the castle, and within a block of the Christmas Market (3 areas). The bridge is a few blocks away. Plenty of restaurants and small markets for all of your needs.
Nice location. Great view from restaurant terrace looking down on the old bridge in Heidelberg and across the Rhine plain towards Mannheim. The hotel is a short walk from the funicular to Heidelberg Castle and the old town. Reception staff kindly assigned us to a different room when the original room turned out to be very hot.
A great place for a short trip in Heidelberg. A hotel is not direct in the city but therefore you get a room in a good price . The staffs are very friendly. The room was clean and you got what you need for a comfort stay. We have no problem to reach the city on foot. We enjoyed our 30 minutes walk in a warm summer breeze.
The hotel is located in a very green and quiet area close to Heidelberg. A public transport station close to the hotel provides connection with the town center. We spend one night on our way home. Comfortable and functional room. Breakfast available at the hotel. Very kind and helpful staff. Good value for money.
Very clean and cozy place. Nice smell in the room. Not far from the old city, the bus stop near the hotel. And a big plus a friendly owner, who helped us, was nice, gave recommendations and it was interesting to talk with him. Thanks a lot. 100% will stay here again if visit Heidelberg 💚
It is a budget hotel not far away from the Heidelberg main station and relatively easily accessible from the city centre. My small single room was quite comfortable and well-lit and had everything I needed. The breakfast was fine and the staff quite nice.
Beautiful hotel and restaurant situated in the middle of heidelbergs old town. Restaurant is really worth a trip and the personel was very friendly and helped us with all our wishes. The garage has few parking spaces and require some skill to navigate.
The hotel is located in the city center and we could reach the 'Einkaufsstrasse' in a couple of minutes. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is amazing. We will definitely book a room in this hotel again when we visit Heidelberg next year.
Hotel B54 is a good, basic accommodation right in the center of Heidelberg. You get a (small) room, a bed, a TV, and a bathroom. Nothing fancy, nothing flashy. Just fine for a simple overnight stay.
For our family of 4 this hotel was perfect. We enjoyed staying at the property, the staff was amazing, breakfast was good. Location was good. If visiting Heidelberg again would return.
The excellent view from the room, close and easy transportation (bus) to Heidelberg. The room was clean
The hotel management / personnel are very helpful , friendly and kind.
