Carat Vitalhotel Monschau Eifel  

Away from the big city, this is a well kept secret. A stunning location, breath taking view, It is also located closeby to Rursee which is probrably the best surprise of the while trip. Monschau itself is very small and 2 nights was just about right. We did the half-board which was a good idea. Didn't want the hassle of searching for a restaurant in the nearby area so was a good idea in the end, we did a short walk and everything was already closed by 7pm even most of the bars and pubs.. The Breakfast buffet had a wide range of bread, cereals, eggs, bacon, sausage, cold meats, cheese and salad so was happy about that. The dinner/supper was so-so good selection of meats,fish dishes again buffet eat as much as you want.

The room lacked character, felt a bit like comfort/premier inn or a Holiday inn feel about it. If you only go for the sleeping this is not for you. We had two single beds put together to make as 1 double so naturally felt a bit awkward at night. Pillows were flat, I like them soft but flat as a pancake they were. No minibar and no supermarket closeby, so stock up before you arrive as drinks at the bar are pricey. Tv all in german but expect that in Germany it is common. Noise level I agree with other comments, it is ok if you don't open window, looking at the average age of the guests I was quite surprised these elderly groups really let themselves go. Some minor road works outside hotel hopefully finished by the time you get there.. They start early and finish early. Parking is tight, had to park next door building and have some coins ready to put in meter. As you check out make sure you are not charged for the parking if you could not get a space outside the main car park. Overall not 4 stars but maybe a 3 just, the pricing justifies this, I would recommend 3 days 2 nights no more than that.

The hotel is used by Coach Parties . There were 2 there with us and frankly swamped the hotel facilities. With only one elevator and the Restaurant on the 3rd floor and Swimming pool on the 5th floor there was a constant wait. Our toilet actually smelled which is almost unheared of in Germany. We checked out after one night and did not take up the second booked night.

Pleasantly situated in the Eifel forest, a very short walk from the town centre. Rooms clean and well-appointed, if rather lacking in charm.

Rather gloomy atmosphere. Bedrooms well-appointed but charmless. Huge dining area gave off atmosphere of canteen. Breakfast ok, but we had much better in other parts of Germany.

Expensive drinks, evening buffet ran out extremely quickly, salad bar not replenished at all, main meals topped up after many complaints

A slight problem with the number of beds for the kids, but problem was dealt with efficiently and to my satisfaction.

We found the staff helpful, the food excellent and the sauna a benefit after days walking or cycling.

Excellent value for money, very friendly for families travelling with young children! Please know that Wifi costs 5 Euro per day, not 12 Euro per day as indicated in the website.

If you want to have a fancy place serving Gourmet food, this hotel is not the place you want to go, but facilities (including a pool and a sauna), food and service are all good enough for short family breaks or business travels.

The location was excellent for both Monschau and hill walking. The swimming pool was a good size for a proper swim and well maintained.

although we really enjoyed our stay I would assess the facilities as 3 star plus.

Great breakfast, nice pool/sauna area. Tried the buffet dinner, yes indeed, quite a lot of food for the price. Seemed like a very popular place during our weekend visit. I'd go back.

The village where it is located is very charming. I also liked the cafe/bar within the hotel. The pool is a good size and enjoyable. I hope to return to Monschau and the Carat Vitahotel someday in the future as I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

The temp of the pool water could have been more warm ( I was there during December.)

Close to the village, dog friendly. Nice breakfast buffet.

Very bad tv reception when the weather is bad and (paying) satellite tv not working, only German programmes. Not great in the winter when evenings are long. Not really 4*.
