Near to the Dom which was really useful. Loved the nearest brauhaus recommended in the hotel brochure (forget the name, but long and beginning with S). Comfortable, lovely modern style of room and breakfast varied and huge.
Check in , called before arival , then asked to come at 2 o'clock when I had agreed for the room To be ready by 12
We had to upgrade on arrival, so I will comment on this room. Comfortable with ample storage, bathroom was large and complimentary toiletries. There was a fridge with basic beers and soft drinks. Location was handy to the rail station with easy access to other venues. Breakfast was ample with lots of fresh coffee available. Plates were cleared as soon as used. The bar opens most nights and it was good to have a drink onsite without any hassle. Cocktails were made to perfection and can recommend the barman. Nuts and snacks were provided whilst in the bar area for free. A writing desk was convenient. A luggage and ample storage made sorting of items a breeze. Overall we had a pleasant stay at this hotel.
Normal rooms very small and have no aircon at all. Therefore it is imperative you upgrade at 20 euros a night. The amount of stairs which you have to take to get to the 'upgraded' rooms can make it difficult for even the best of us. Lift doesn't stop exactly on floors, but in between levels so you still have a flight of stairs to climb - difficult when carrying luggage. (no-one assists with this). More detail on reaching the destination of the hotel would be a good guide. Example turn right at Maredo's and follow the road down and turn left after you cross the overhead bridge. The tourist information office signs disappear when you leave the rail station, so getting info on walking the 5 minutes to the accommodation is difficult. Cleaners overlooked glasses that had been used. On the booking.com website I couldn't find where the 'comfort' rooms were so maybe this was something that needs to be attended to.
Central location, clean and modern rooms. Overall, a good quality 3 star hotel.
The hotel is in a position that suited us very well and the service and all facilities are very good
I just spent 4 hours a night, the bed and the room furniture was minimal and adequate for me. The room didn't have a desk, so it is not appropriate for business travelers. The room and bathroom was clean. That was all I needed. The stuff was friendly in two encounters I had, check in and check out :-)
The room was not absolutely quiet. The windows were not absolute sound proof and noise from cars outside came to room. But not that loud. The only thing I really missed in the room was a coffee maker. All hotels nowadays have it.
The closeness to downtown.
Wi-fi didn't work, gave up after several attempts to connect.
Cosy and modern rooms. Quiet and convinient location
No air conditioning in the room A lot of noise coming from outside No car park
I had a quite room.
Outside rooms might be noisy.
Great location, a handy short walk from the station, cathedral and old town. The rooms in the annex are surprisingly quiet and the decor is stylish and modern
The wifi is stated to be available throughout the hotel but in the annex we struggled to get a consistent signal. Also access to these rooms was via a few stairs and heavy door so might not be suitable for some guests.
close to the city center affordable breakfast
bed a bid short if you are a tall person
Great location, free and fast wifi
the hotel staff are very nice and helpful. breakfast is good. the room is a little old but they tried to make it nice and clean. it's close enough to the central station. free wifi works well.
the noisiest hotel i've ever stayed at. maybe all the hotels near the train station in cologne are the same. but not only trains but you can also hear street noise very loud during the night. maybe because i stayed there on saturday and also at street level. i didn't feel safe when i heard people clearly just the other side of my window. i asked to change the room for the second night, they were helpful and quickly did it. if you don't mind noise and want to stay relatively close to the station, it's really ok.
It was near to the centre of the city so most things like bars, resturants and tourist attractions were within easy walking distance
It was a bit noisy - near train line and busy raod
I was impressed with Hotel Cristall from the moment I arrived after a late night flight - from the bright and vibrant foyer and welcoming front office staff to the pleasant, spacious room. It featured plenty of space around the very comfortable bed, lots of storage and a well-laid-out bathroom. Everything was there - bedside lights, hair dryer, soaps in the bathroom, nice towels, thoughtful room layout and wardrobe, minibar, wall-mounted flat-screen TV with satellite channels and secure electronic access key to room. My room was on the third floor and there was very fast free WiFi with a strong signal in the room and a comfortable chair at a good-sized desk. The breakfast buffet was probably the most enjoyable I had while on this 24-day trip from Vienna to Prague and into Germany. Superior service from the hospitality staff was the norm - they were attentive, friendly and efficient - from delivering coffee as soon as you sat down to ensuring your table remained clear. Would I return to Hotel Cristall? The hotel is within an easy, five minute level walk to the magnificent Cologne Dom Cathedral and Railway Station. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cologne.
I can't say there were any real negatives during my five-night stay. There was a little bit of traffic noise from around 5.30am (as I virtually always keep the windows open because I like fresh air), but not so much as to wake me or be disturbing. When I did close the windows after waking early one morning, the room returned to absolute silence.
toilet a bit cramped poor coffee at breakfast
good position: near central railway station; 15 minutes walk from koelnmesse.
some noise from nearby passing trains (although my sleep was not affected).
Room was excellent - comfortable and very well-equipped. Breakfasts were ample, and service and friendliness of staff were both exemplary. The hotel was easily in reach of the station and Cathedral.
The room faced onto a 6-lane highway, which was busy from early in the morning to late at night. There were also building works opposite the hotel, and work continued during one night. As the weather was very hot, the window needed to be open, and the noise was extreme.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
No room safe. Air conditioner very noisy.
Got a room on the top floor in the adjoining building. Very comfortable room with a view to the cathedral. Walking distance to the station, cathedral, shopping district. Some nice restaurants close by.
