I wonder why they didn't install proper ventilation and airconditioning system toghether with the renovation. When the outside temperature is +25 or above and it is sunny, the hotel and rooms get very warm. You have to keep window open to be able to be or sleep in the room. And if you are on the road side of the building, the noise from the quite busy road is disturbing. Also there are warnings that insects come in during nights if the window is open... taken all this into account and the fact that this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel, I really suggest the hotel management to rethink installing a cooling ventilation system to the hotel. I would pay easily 20€ per night more for that luxury.
Also, if the window is shut during the night, it feels that the ventilation in the room doesn't work. It feels like the air just stands still.
For car users there are not enough parking spaces within the hotel area. On the other side of the road there is a public parking area, but it costs during 10-18. I wonder if hotel could agree with the town that their customer's could park there for free. E.g. by giving a parking ID to be visible on the dashboard.
There were a lot of good about this hotel. If you travelling by car, it is ideally located in a peaceful small town, but with quick access to cities like Hamburg and Lübeck. There are nice nature locations too within reach of less than one hour.
The hotel is by the lake, you can go swimming from the hotel pier, or you can go rowing or canoeing with hotel equipment. On the other side of the road, there is public beach for a swim, as well as very nice fish restaurant and an ice-cream pavillion. The center of Ratzeburg is also very near, within easy walking distance.
The hotel itself seems to be recently renovated and is in very good condition. Also the rooms are in good condition and spacious, or at least our's was.
Breakfast is good, although quality has been chosen instead of quantity and variety.
