The barman was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was extremely expensive €18pp. The night porter was very unfriendly and the receptionist during the day was the same. There was nobody at the leisure club reception and we were unable to get towels or assistance. All signs were in german and we did not understand. The beds (2 singles pushed together although we booked a double) were very uncomfortable - my husbands back was very sore after our stay.

The rooms were very confortable and clean and the hotel facilities were great. We were unable to get a full room service menu and when we called the restaurant number we were unable to get a straight forward answer as to what was available.

The bed and especially the pillows were entirely uncomfortable. I believe there are better alternatives in the same price range.

A quiet hotel conveniently located. Room and common areas are less than immaculate. The Novotel Mainz seems to be a hotel for flight crews.

We struck a heat-wave in late August, so didn't enjoy walking up the hill from the railway station, but otherwise it's quite close, and also a short walk to the old town. Room service meals were good, and reasonably priced.

This was our second stay, the location is good, all staff seem to speak good English, dinner and wines were excellent as was the restaurant manager/head waiter The restaurant in the cellars was not open - 'out of season' ?! despite asking specifically for a double bed, twin beds pushed together were provided and I didn't get a response to my request on the booking form Breakfast was the usual buffet (not as good as last time) the main problem being cooked foods kept under heat and coffee not freshly made 5 minutes walk into town for a much cheaper and better breakfast, with coffee made to order Poor choice of tv progs

Location was ideal for our needs, being next door to our friend's wedding venue. Pool was not available due to "maintenance" and normal restaurant venue was not available (due to ??), but same price charged for meals which were to be taken in the cafeteria !!

The hotel is well-located - fairly close to the main railway station, up an attractive hilly street and in an area of parklands. Loved the row of windows (although a few didn't open properly, and one was even missing a handle) and the block-out curtains so you can sleep in! As with many Novotels it is all a bit too impersonal - staff were bored and off-hand with me and other guests. My room door was located in a semi- circle of three doors, with a fourth guest door nearby: this looks a bit more interesting than a row of doors, however, it meant that I kept hearing doors bang while trying to sleep. Also, noise travels easily from other rooms. My bed only had one pillow and off-white sheets with no quilt/cover, and there was no extra bedding in the storage areas - this is acceptable in cheaper hotels, but you'd expect more from a novotel. Despite misgivings, if this hotel continues to offer rates that are only slightly more expensive than run-of-the-mill properties, it still represents value for money.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and all seemed to speak good English.Restaurant in the cellars (part of the old building on which the hotel is built) was excellent. Walk to old part of city was quick once we knew the way. Very good selection at the breakfast buffet. Chairs in the room were uncomfortable. Breakfast coffee on one day was a bit stewed, as was the replacement. I took care to ensure we had booked double rooms, but both rooms were twin.

The spa was excellent, clean and quite relaxing indeed! The crew was very polite, always with a smile. The fact that nakedness is obligatory into the sauna. We got yelled at from other clients when we entered the sauna with our bathing suits (which were pretty clean bu the way:-) Different country, different custom...They called the spa receptionnist to tell us that we have to remove our bathing suits(at least he was very polite)

My kids and I really enjoyed the swimming pool & the hotel was close to the City sights and in a very nice location. Our rooms were comfortable and clean and we really enjoyed the breakfasts. There was a very good selection of food and it was freshly prepared and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Thankyou.

The most thing is the location of the hotel and spa. The cost of the breakfast if it is not included, is so expensive! The cost of Wi-Fi is expensive too. The speed of Wi-Fi is very poor.
