The tiny bathroom rates slightly below average for cleanliness due to a slight funky smell around the toilet and stains on the shower floor.
If you stay on the fourth floor, as I did, this hotel make up for its lack of a fitness center by making you carry your luggage up four flights of stairs because there is no elevator.
This place is the kind of place you want if you just want a bed, shower, and breakfast for one night near the Cologne main train station for not a lot of money. If you are planning a multiple day visit to Cologne, I would go somewhere else with more ambience, unless you are really dead set on saving as much money as possible. Still, if were in a similar situation of needing a place for one night before hopping an early train, perhaps I would stay here again.
The hotel is efficiently run with text messages confirming my check-in time and another one for the wifi access code. My train got in late so the place was not staffed by the time I arrive. I called the number posted by the door and was told the code to open a box with my keys.
The room I had was small but adequate for one person. The floor and furnishings are from circa 1970.
The breakfast buffet is average for a small European hotel and consisted of a small selection of breads, cold cuts, cheeses, pickles, and coffee.
This place does win on its location, situated about a block and a half from the main train station and Cologne Cathedral.
All in all, this hotel's location, good communication via text messages, and ability to accommodate late arrival make it an acceptable value at ~60 Euros per night.
