Hotel Frei  

Excellent hotel in a very convenient location. Located within the city walls, just a short walk from the historic centre, (and at the time of our visit, close to the Christmas market). Stayed in quadruple room, which was relatively spacious and very comfortable and refreshingly quiet at night. Was suprised to be able to book such a location at a such a good price, during the Xmas period. With free, plentifull continential breakfast and free, pre-booked parking next to the hotel, this really was a bargain. Located above their own bakery, the staff were friendly and helpful and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rothenburg. Thank you for making the trip so special.

The location was wonderful, right inside the city walls with a short walking distance anywhere in the old town. For our family of six, the price was better than anything else I had found in the area. The European breakfast included was very good and there was plenty to eat. My kids loved it.

The only thing was that the apartment slept 6, but 2 people had to sleep on couches. I was prepared for this as I had read previous reviews and it worked out fine. It was perfect for a weekend trip for a larger family at the right price.

It is a large apartment great for families. Only negative is the decor is outdated.

Shower-in-the-tub facilities were 1960's, at best, no elevator, dingy carpets and furnishings.

We stayed in an apartment. There was plenty of room and the included breakfast was wonderful; traditional German rolls with meats and cheeses, coffee (they make a great hot coco), fruit and boiled eggs. This hotel has it's own parking right inside the town wall. Several nice stores and restaurants are on the block to include the restaurant right in the Hotel Frei which has an icecream and pastries counter. This hotel is walking distance to all of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and while inside the wall of Rothenburg it is far enough away from the town center to get to sleep on those festival nights. The apartment includes a master bedroom with a king bed, living room (the couch turns to a double bed) a "children's" room with two twin beds, full kitcken and one bathroom having both shower and tub. The toilet is in a "closet" across from the shower.

Not really a complaint, but we did have one little plumming issue that was resolved in a timely and acceptable way. My only other issue was that the inner comforters on the beds could be cleaner; it was a good thing that the duvets were clean and white.

Very central location in old town, good parking space, clean and very big appartement. Ideal for a family of 5. Enough space for all. Good breakfast. We were constantly asked if we had any wishes. Family-run hotel in a very friendly way. I really recommend this hotel and the town of Rothenburg. Really value for money.

The location within Rothenburg was incredible. It was near shopping and the city wall and made it an easy walk for our family of 6. We stayed in the apartment which included a kitchen, 2 sleeping rooms, a living room (which doubled as another bedroom at night), and a large bathroom...great value for such a large family. Parking on site was free and available. Breakfast was adequate, but the selection and amount offered was small.

Check in is a little confusing. You come into the bakery and it is not apparent where to check in. When you ask the staff, they take you to the right side of the room and check your name off their list and give you a key.

I liked it very much to stay in the hotel for 1 night because we could travel the next day to our holidaydestination. It was very nice to be in this beautiful city!

It was a pitty that we could not diner in the same restaurant as where we slept. We had a very good pizzarestaurant near the wall. That was also ok, but we also shoud prefer it to eat in the same hotel as in witch we slept.

Well positioned in the heart of Rothenburg ob de Tauber with car parking facility. Room was comfortable and the staff were exceptionally polite and helpful.

Perfect location for a first night of vacation. Rothenburg is an adorable walled city just a couple of hours by car from Frankfurt. The hotel Frei is easy to find, right inside the city walls. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. We have two teenage sons who loved staying in this hotel, mainly for the breakfast but also because it was so close to the main part of town we could easily walk around. The staff was efficient and friendly.

Location. Was very close to the downtown market square and also was very close to the city wall.

The room was very dated (fabrics, carpets, furniture, etc). The hotel in general was very dated in its furnishings. The bathroom was very small. Breakfast was the standard cold cuts, yogurt, muslix, soft-boiled eggs, breads, etc. After searching online for hotels in the area, I know I could have found a more pleasing, comfortable hotel for the same price.
