Prior to our arrival, We would have preferred given info that no coffee/tea facility will be provided so we could pack our own sachets. Otherwise the kitchenette was well provided for in terms of crockery and utensils. As we did not drive, and due to constant snowing, we were not able to get to any convenience shop to buy food/produce to cook our meals. But dining in the gasthof's stubl was great and we enjoyed it.
When we first booked it, it was stated that we would be issued a Konigscard which entitles us to free ski rentals, discounts here and there, etc. Now that we have stayed there, we would have preferred being given accurate information that this benefit applies to a ski resort in another town and not within walking distance. Although we enjoy exploring by nature, but because the facilities were not nearby and require a 20 min walk and a 20 min train ride each way, not counting walking to the ski resort, going thru the process of renting skis, etc. it was all too time consuming for our family being new to the locale. We did not realise it turned dark right at 4pm, and missed our earlier train back. We waited in the cold in a deserted train station for the next train and got back to Oy-Mittelberg's station but waited in vain for the last bus. Luckily, a local was also there and she managed to call her husband, who gave us a ride back to the gasthof, it was quite scary for us as we were also very cold and worried for our kids. The boss later said we could take a business card from him and bring that along next time so we could call him, and he'd come fetch us; which was very nice, but we wish we had known about this right when we checked in. So on hindsight, if we had know the Konigscard benefits applies to another town, we would have opted to stay nearer and in the same town as the ski rental, and slopes location instead. Gaisternoy is a quaint Bavarian village to explore and so is the countryside.
The lady boss picked us up from the train station in Oy-Mittelberg which was very nice. She also fetched us back to the station on the day we departed. This is a family-run guesthouse and the care and attention to details was evident. The service was genuine, warm and authentic, we appreciated it very much. Our assigned Family apt was very nice on the top floor in a corner, room #12. A comfortable size for 2 pre-teens kids. Pillows could be a proper pillow and not so soft and flat to sleep on, it was more like a small quilt than even a cushion; we had to prop it up with a folded towel underneath. The food and service in the stubl was very nice and cozy; we enjoyed every meal there, including just sitting there for drinks.
