Hotel Gasthof Stift    

Nice typical German hotel, located in old town, which is good for the tourist. As Ukrainian I was surprised that our national meal "semki" (sunflower seeds) was offered at the breakfast. Breakfast is continental, German. Staff very nice, when you arrive they give you the key immediately without paperwork and other hassle.

Decent size and clean rooms.Very central location and reasonable price. Helpful and pleasant staff.

No complaints about Gasthof Stift.

Great location on the island of Lindau and, given the prices of hotels there, a reasonably-priced place to stay. Welcoming staff who invited me to park my motorcycle in the beer garden overnight. Really good breakfast buffet selection with more types of bread than I could count!

I had a tiny room under the slope of the roof on the top floor. It was just about adequate for a one night stay but the bathroom was a tiny fibreglass cubicle in the corner of the room and the shower an even more tiny postage stamp in the corner of that. The shower had a fabric curtain that further restricted space and I could hardly turn around in it. Someone of more generous proportions would find it impossible to have a shower. While food in the restaurant in the evening was good, the service was awful. I sat outside (other outside tables were occupied) but I and other diners had to go inside to find the waiter if we needed anything including to order drinks, desert and to ask for the bill - he just wasn't interested. Maybe we were just unlucky that night.

The hotel staff was very helpful, especially Mark who was able to direct us to some interesting sites to see around the area. The restaurant was a great place to grab a bite and beer after a long day of site seeing. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

The market place gets setup in the early morning hours on Saturday and is a bit noisy if you are a light sleeper.

Friendly staff, basically in the altstadt which is a beauty. Nice hotel, although a bit old fashioned - but cosy.

It is a long list, but for starters it was extremely dirty and disgusting. The staff was very rude, assuming you could actually find someone to talk to. There were bugs everywhere... It was a horrible experience and I would recommend Booking.com not representing them.

Nice place to stay in Lindau if you want to be in historical center of city

The room was reasonably large and comfortable. Public parking was available just outside the hotel but could not be guaranteed. Breakfast was very good and the dining room was spacious and comfortable

Excellent location in the square alongside both churches. Friendly and helpful staff. Marvelous old building tastefully renovated with very comfortable furniture. Indoor and outdoor tables offer a range of eating and drinking locations: in the square, or in the leafy courtyard, or in the magnificent dining room. We would certainly stay here again.

WiFi was only available in the public areas and didn't seem to reach the rooms. It was a bit of a trek with our luggage up the stairs. We parked our car a few hundred metres away which was no hardship as we could load and unload right outside the hotel.

This hotel is located in a German town that has all the feel of Italy. The hotel is located on a square in the pedestrian zone that has a lovely fountain, bordered by some incredible historic buildings. Considering the age of the building (300 years) everything was extremely comfortable (the beds weren't 300 years old!). We visited Lindau in August and looked down on the square and fountain. At first we were concerned about noise from the cafe below but by 10pm it was quiet. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys being surrounded by beautiful architecture, flowers everywhere and the location on an island in Lake Constance.

It was very comfortable and nice. Although it was a little bit stuffy in a room because of a hot weather, then everything was alright. I'd like to spend there some time again.

Having read the other reviews I'm pleased to say none of the negative points raised by other reviewers became apparent. I turned up on a motorcycle late afternoon, hot and sweaty due to the 32 deg C temps. My German language was poorer than usual due to my brain being fried by both the heat and the 320mile journey through Switzerland to get here... fortunately the staff spoke perfectly acceptable English and I was handed my room key and advised to park in the 'bier garten'. The room, although small, was suitably large enough for one, very clean with a comfortable bed and great shower. Once I'd cooled down, showered and changed I went back to reception to enquire about my meal that I had also pre-booked. I was given the option of sitting front or back and to ask one of the waiters for the 'half board' meal option... this composed of a salad starter, fish (from the lake) and potatoes for main and apple strudel to finish... again, nothing to complain about, especially when washed down with some cold beer. Overall, this was a great stop over and my only gripe was the fact that I was too tired to go and explore Lindau... entirely my fault, nothing to do with the hotel.

The only two negatives I can think of are the dated colours (the green colour of the carpet is, well, er... interesting to say the least) and the cost which was higher than I'd be paying in the French Alps... I'm guessing this is down to the location with Lindau island(?) being an historic town and popular with tourists. However, I knew the cost before I came here, having booked online, and the colours made me smile rather have any impact on how I slept or ate. Anyone who is disappointed with this hotel most likely has higher expectations than me... and possibly a 'glass half empty' attitude to life :-)

Poor Wifi access throughout hotel. Breakfast was good. Front rooms have a good view but, cafe is loud at night. The beautiful Church bells ring from 6 am to 10 pm every 15 min. May be a problem for some. Lindau is fabulous!!

- There is also a disco in the same building as the hotel. We could not sleep cause of all the sounds from the disco (it was Monday night). - The bells from the two churches next to the hotel rang every hour entire night. - The personal was not very service minded. - The room was very old furnished. The carpets were old, dirty and smelly. - The hotel does not have any parking spot and there ware no place to park the car for a moment to cary up our bags to the room.

The room was spacious and clean. We were left a can of apple juice from the hotel with their special welcome to their hotel which I thought was a nice touch. Nice location.

Not enough staff on duty. No air-conditioning. Wanted to use wifi in the evening, but as no staff on duty unable to use it for free. When you book in, ask for everything you need then!

We were made to feel very welcome on our arrival by owner Marc, staff were very helpful and we enjoyed some excellent meals.

Very accommodating staff. We needed a last minute place for one evening and were lucky to find a room here. Adequate room for what we paid but there are better places around if you have the time to look. Nice bier-garden out back.

Right next to the church if the bells for Sunday morning services are a concern. Shower curtain smelled of mildew and needed to be changed,
