We were lucky enough to stay in a beautiful light filled room no. 22 which overlooks the Altebrucke & the river. The hotel could not be more centrally located in the Altstadt with easy access to sights, bars & restaurants. There could not be a more convenient place to stay.
We asked specifically to stay in room 12. We had the best possible view from our Windows looking right out over the old bridge, and immediately in front of the gate. It was amazing! Boat tours pick up afloat right in front of the hotel. Castle easy to get to walking about 7 min through the market, then can take a gondola to the top. Very easy. Reception very pleasant and helpful. Better experience than expected!
Shower not very confortable
Location is excellent, right by the Old Bridge. Staff was friendly. Room and bathroom adequate although a little small. The building seems very quaint and historic. Nice restaurant below.
The noise at night from the street below, although it helped when they gave us a fan to put in the window. Parking was several blocks away and not included. It was quite warm the first night, and like all German hotels, there was no A/C. Also no internet.
My room view overlooking the old bridge (alte brucke).
Being charged for breakfast that I had verbally cancelled.
Location and friendly staff
Noisy on Saturday night until about 1am as my room overlooked the bridge.
The location and restaurant.
The hotel is overpriced due to its location which is excellent, in the heart of everything. However, the place needs a makeover and the rooms are small. Having no lift and the check in desk being on the second floor does not help you with your initial experience
Location!!! My room had a view on the old bridge and Heidelberg monkey :) Room itself was nice and clean, no complaints.
Wi-Fi is not free
Loved the location! It was charming and beautiful and next to the river and within walking distance to the tram which takes you to the castle. The room was comfortable and spacious.
We hadn't included breakfast with our room, so we had to wait to eat.
Was a nice clean hotel in the old town close to everything.
They had a huge festival with a loud band just outside our room. Impossible to sleep or even have a conversation in the room. Only stayed one night and went to a quieter location in the town...feel we should have been warned when booking!!!
Very central for all the old town sights. Nice clean comfy room. Very friendly staff. Dog friendly. Excellent double glazing to keep out in town noise.
Lack of parking.
Great position with fabulous views of the bridge and river. Large rooms and comfortable beds.
No lift so you have to lug bags up 2-3 floors. Breakfast was expensive and served in a pokey, disjointed room and cannot seat parties of more than 4 on a table or more than 10-12 people at any one time. For that reason you have to book a time to eat which is not what you want on a holiday. The catch then is that you cannot eat breakfast anywhere else in the town before 10am so be warned.
The location for the town centre is excellent, very close to bars and restaurants. Breakfast was very good.
The streets outside are busy and noisy, plenty of atmosphere but don't expect a quiet stay.
fantastic location, good food and they fitted us in without a reservation.
slightly noisy, but then there was a world cup football match!
Very noisy outdoor. Bring earplugs. Bad pillows
The friendly staff, cosy room, spendid location, atmosphere. Good breakfast served in the room.
Best views in Heidelberg
Small room by American standards but very comfortable.
near the castle, many shops, restaurants and the bus stops for the main station
I had a charming single room with geranium-filled flower boxes right at my window looking down over the courtyard of cheerful patrons having lunch and dinner. Just beyond them was the river and the old historic bridge. Exactly the old world charm I was looking for!
The only difficulty was no elevator to the first floor and I had a heavy suitcase. But there was an elevator for floors beyond that. The room was worth it!
The hotel itself was nice, and the location was convenient to my party's needs. It was situated very close to the river, old bridge, and castle, as well as our wedding venue. There was also a (cheap) parking garage that was only about 5 minutes away, giving us wiggle room to explore by foot without worrying about our vehicle. The lunch menu was fantastic!
My only issue was breakfast. I was not aware that my party had ordered breakfast with their room, but by the time I'd found out, the front desk was closed (at 9 pm). When I attempted to add breakfast to the cost of my room the next morning, the front desk assistant kindly told me that if I'd wanted breakfast, I should have let them know prior. She was kind enough to ask the person who ran the breakfast room, and even suggested cafes outside of the hotel. But low and behold, there was not enough space or food. I sat in my room while my friends had breakfast only to later find out that there was plenty of seating and food during their meal. I was very disappointed by their lack of flexibility.
There is really nothing to recommend except for location. But the town is so small. It is unnecessary to live so close with old town.
The location was perfect. Staff were friendly and room was quiet. It was lovely to walk the little bridges at night and see the lights on the castle and reflections in the water. Heidelberg was charming and the castle a must see of our 14 last locations in Europe.
We had to pay 3 euros for wifi but staff were very helpful with travel directions.
Walk out the door and you're immediately at "Die Alte Brucke", can't get much better than that. Helpful staff, parking discounts, refrigerator in room.
Shower is tiny
Great location, clean, very pleasant. Wonderful breakfast custom served.
Very tiny shower.
