Hotel Hirth  

Hotel Hirth is cozy and has a spectacular view of the mountains. It's close to Garmish and plenty of tourist sites. There is a walking path across the street for leisurely even strolls. The hotel serves very yummy regional foods, but be sure to check with the hotel prior to booking if you expect to eat there. During off season or low booking time frames they may close the kitchen and you'll need to travel into town for food in the evening. On the flip side, the breakfast spread is an ample and tasty German standard bread, eggs, jams, sweat breads, coffee/tea and juice.

We were there on a weekend when the kitchen was closed, which is a bummer because we really enjoyed the dinner foods the time prior. In the evenings the family is hard to locate, so if you would like a fire or a drink at the bar be sure to let them know in the morning or afternoon. The decor is older, but the rooms are cozy. In the two different rooms we've stayed in there are no rolanden or blinds, so be prepared to wake up with the sun. The mattress was comfortable, the water was hot and my husband and I were happy with the room. It's just best to realize this is a family run, older establishments with affordable rates. It's charming and lovely, but intended for people who are going to be out and about for most of the day.

The price was quite affordable, and the two rooms had the best views out the windows/balcony!

Frau Müller was a super hostess and spoke very good English (much better than my Deutsch.) The restaurant dinners were excellent and the breakfast rates a very good. The view of Zugspitz was great.

Parts of the hotel (my single room in particular) are in dire need of remodeling. However, the common areas (restaurant & breakfast room) have a great appearance. My friend's double had been remodeled and they had no complaints. The hotel is not handicapped accessible as it has no elevator. However, the great food, staff and value for money spent made up for the somewhat shabby room.

The lady that runs the hotel is great...very sweet, accomodating and knowledgable about the area. The location is great for anyone traveling by car, being outside of Garmisch but still close the the attractions. Breakfast is typical European and good; was very impressed with dinner we had there.

The room we were in only had a bathtub and I'd prefer a shower (especially in a hotel). Nevertheless it was very clean and worked out fine.
