It was so clean, and great to have lots of outlets
The wifi was terrible
everything in the place/hostel satisfies my needs and comfort, the staff are very approachable.
The surroundings, the spa and the walk into town.
Pool and sauna
Breakfast, just cheese and bread and jam, overpriced for hostel, quite dated.
+ Calm atmosphere + Price + Breakfast until 11 am
- Be prepared. It's sort of nice little haven but very strange at the same time. - The staff attitude. Very German: So many rules! I managed to break the rule of cutting bread in the breakfast room (you had to do that outside, in the garden!), also trying to wear shoes in the building, etc. - I didn't manage to go to the sauna/spa - even if I still needed to take a shower (I had already liberated my room): after breakfast I should have had to pay about twenty euros for using the sauna! But hey, with that price I could have used it for the whole day. Whereas I just wanted to take my shower and sit in the sauna for five minutes. Not possible. Although for paying 14 euros I could buy just a half-day ticket... Whereas this was included in the room price - but not if I checked out already. I thought I was doing them a favor leaving my room early for them to clean and then still going to the sauna. But no. Nein. Nichts. - They were closing half an hour early in the evening, even if I had told that I will be arriving late but before they close. - The breakfast was very weak (although included in the price). Boring bread, and besides some marmelade only thing to put on it was three types of exactly similar white tasteless cheese. Juice concentrate I found in the fridge on my own, otherwise there was water. Not really living up to advertisement... - No luggage room
The food at the close by restaurant was excellent
the children felt a bit uncomfortable with the bedroom windows overlooking the spa (= naked people in view)
reception girl was nice.
-the room was expensive, and for that kind of money making your own bed and stripping it is a bit rich; but I think if you just go for a dorm bed its ok; -the single room option is to expensive as there are no extras in the room. A table, chair, two small camping beds and rules outside the door! -the shower area leading towards the outside spa was disgusting, snot on the walls on three places; -the location is nice, but the clearing where the hostel is located is bland -small pool just for sauna purpose.
There was one younger woman that worked there on the evening of August 21, 2014. She was warm, kind, and helped me my first experience in the sauna. She was the only person on staff that made me feel welcome to at Waldkurbad.
1. The older man was very rude and made me feel horrible about snoring. Told me, "everyone is leaving because of you... You will have to stay in another room by yourself.." Yet, I spoke to two of my bunk mates and they already had plans to go back to their home and were understanding that sometimes people snore. That's why they bring ear plugs when sharing a room with other people. Then, I saw the other two women eating breakfast two days later. He lied to me and made me feel like I was a bad person. 2. Far away and difficult to get to (as well as even find) with baggage on foot. I tried calling multiple times, but no one would answer the phone. 3. I booked two nights on Booking.com for $57.80. Once I finally had to get a taxi to get there... there were a bunch of hidden fees and deposits. I ended up having to pay $74.00. 4. They only want cash and charged ME for using a credit card. 5. Breakfast: Vegan? I say... cheap skates. I grew up in a vegetarian/vegan home and it is important for this diet to get nourishment from multiple sources. They could have at least spent a few Euros on bulk oatmeal with nuts and fruit. Not worth the 5.50 Euros. 6. The old woman pretending for three days to not speak English UNTIL she wanted me to sign off on her receipt for the refunded 20 euro deposit (a bit high for a traveler on a budget). Then, all of the sudden she came up with the word, "signature". Playing games. I will never return or recommend them. Even their neighbors at the Camping in Mosel were more helpful and welcoming than those old birds!
All of us liked to stay there and our temper changed after a warm and long day. When we went into the spa we become more relaxed and also laughed together. We went to sleep into a good mood. Thank you.
The bed is very clean and comfortable. The stuff are very nice and friendly.
This hostel is suitable for traveling by car or bicycle. It is a little far from train station (1.4 km). If I travel by car next time, I will chose it again.
Price. It is fairly clean.
Pillows are awful. Location is not in Freiburg but within 30min of transit and walking. No WiFi... it is the campsite next door that has WiFi so you need to go outside near the next building over to get WiFi and hope your device is good at picking up signals...not so practical if if is raining. If you need free WiFi go to the Starbucks at the train station.
They are charging money for everything, yet the service us poor.
Located about a kilometer from the nearest tram stop outside of the city. Not recommended if traveling with luggage without a car. Also Internet does not work.
1) Too far away Due to the construction work, we have to walk through the whole city center, app. half an hour, just to get to the tram line 1. After getting off the tram, we still need to walk for another half an hour. Finally we just gave it up as we are lost, really tired and our hands were hurt. 2) Unhelpful staff We told the staff we are lost, but the staff just told us we should ask someone on the street for the direction. However, there were no one ever passed by. (And we used the Google map+GPS already!) I still have a pain on my arm now. And I have to say this is the worst experience I ever had. It was night, and we were in the middle of nowhere and no one help us. Thank God I can find a hotel to stay and don't have to sleep on streets.. Think twice before you book this hotel, and Good luck for those who book it.
The bus out of there
The old naked german people everywhere
It's pretty around the hostel, good hiking.
This place is far from the city center and a 1.6 km from any transit to get there. The instructions to get there are not good and a simple map would have helped a lot. Or even a map to the tourist office. Or maybe a pick up? The other thing? If you want to make use of the spa/sauna/pool you're gonna have to do it naked. Why wasn't that on the description? Or maybe I missed it. Book early for a hostel in Freiburg unless you want to stay here. ALSO, you have to pay for sheets! 50$ a night for a bunk bed far outta town. Not my thing.
We didn't realise until we booked into the hostel that the spar area was nudest. But when in Rome...
The hostel was in an beautiful location but was a bit out the way! very clean with good facilities
The price was very overpriced considering we weren't able to use any of the facilities available due to them being naked only!!
Very chill atmosphere. Near trails in Black Forest. In a quiet area. Sweet spa facilities, but just know this is a nude spa and you will see old ladies and men fully naked not afraid to show their private parts, we did not know this before we booked. They also have their own reasonably priced laundry service.
Our room had a view of the nude spa, and every time we looked out the window we saw naked people. The shower downstairs has only a thin curtain to cover you. It is also about a 15 - 20 minute walk to the tram.
Friendly staffs, clean and comfortable bed and shower area
Far from city centre, a bit expensive
Lovely location, not too far from the centre of Freiburg but also very convenient for getting out into the forest. The spa facilities are good, hot saunas and a pool to cool down in after a hot day out in the forest. Friendly atmosphere and a very pleasant stay.
It would have been nice if there was WiFi actually in the hostel. There is free WiFi available from the campsite next door, but you must sit outside to be able to use it.
The place is very beautiful and relaxing, it's near the nature... The personal is very kind and we can use the sauna every day. It was a very nice experience!
The hostel is a little bit outside the city (about 10 min by tram), but near the University of Education, and there are different options to go to the city center.
I liked that it was in a park area.
It should have been more clear of what kind of hostel it is.
The girl at the stuff was very gentle and professional, the service at the bar was perfect.
