Located in a valley, the city offers beautiful views to the surrounding mountains and is a good starting point to explore them. It is worth it to climb the Domberg, which overshadows the city until the Ottilienchapel, which offers a nice view over the city or even to the top that has a tower with a panoramic view of South Thuringia. The city itself is rather quiet and mostly elder people are to see. The downtown has some decent restaurant options, like the Greek restaurant Delphi or the fish restaurant "Gastmahl des Meeres". Via the nearby highway it is easy to explore nearby attractions.

Suhl was the biggest weapon builders area in Germany before WW2. After the war all the machinery was taken to Russia. Prepare yourself by reading a bit about its history. Besides this it offers very nice surroundings.

The staff is very friendly and the rooms are spacious and in good conditions. The breakfast on the 16th floor offers a decent food selection and an amazing view. Nice detail is that on each floor there is a fridge with free soft drink. Greek food just a five minute walk away. Free parking until 8am at Gutenbergstrasse, just 100m away from the hotel entrance. (Google Maps does not "know" that you can just walk there passing the "Kulturhaus")

The restaurant is very busy so I’d recommend booking a table. The breakfast on offer was also very good. Staff were helpful in booking taxis etc. for me to go into the town.
