The location is just perfect, our room had a beautiful view, the building is spectacular and breakfast was just fine. Our room was really big with two very comfortable beds.
Just about everything! Location,spa/wellness,food,nature,beer(Benedictine Weiss!)...
That we couldn't stay longer :)
The hotel is located on a road with a lot of traffic. This is annoying when you get a room with a view on this road and you open the window during the night to get some fresh air (lot of noise). The rooms are also too small for families with children, I could hardly install the baby bed. When you see a restaurant with a multi-page menu, in general, you walk away (ingredients can’t be fresh). We tried it anyway because there was not much alternative in the village. And indeed as expected :-(. Wi-Fi was only available in the lobby :-( . When arriving at the breakfast in the morning, a table was reserved for us. Not only for us, we were eating with 3 couples at the same table. Not so much fun when you notice the other couples are not amused with the situation neither. Luckily the guy next to me was an intelligent sympathetic guest from Germany.
Perfect location, fantastic restaurant with local cuisine and beer, good breakfast, private parking
Unhelpful, extremely lazy stuff (we had to wait for half an hour for check-in and check-out), uncomfy beds and pillows, smelly rooms, there is no Wi-Fi in rooms (only cable), Wi-Fi (poor connection) is available in lobby only
excellent location. good food in convenient restaurant on site. indoor swimming pool. very large apartment.
Location was great, plenty of parking.
3rd floor room was bad and tiny one person twin bed. Bumped my head on the bathrooms sloped ceiling. Breakfast was free, which is good since it's not worth paying for.
Friendly staff, nice area, good restuatant, nice breakfast.
The hotel is situated in a really beautiful small town Ettal near the Alps. The church and the monastery were exellent. People in Bavary are specially nice .
very friendly and helpfull staff, very clean and well organized place. good value for Money. highly recommended.
The room size was good as was the breakfast
Some of the lights did not work. The phone did not work. The toilet roll had insufficient paper and ran out. One of the staff was extremely rude and yelled at my wife and I for wearing shoes in the pool area. There were signs in the area written in English and German. The sign written in English made no mention of footwear. I have no problem in informing us of the matter, but yelling at us was rude and poor customer service. I could not recommend this motel to any traveller.
Very classic Bavarian type hotel full of charm but also modern conveniences. Loved the view from our windows and balcony of the fields, chalets and cows. Excellent restaurant attached to the hotel and very reasonably priced. They also have a spa including a swimming pool enclosed in glass that is a wonderful add on. Front desk staff were also very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was a nice start to the day. Love their "milch cafe!" Close to Garmisch Partenkirchen. Nice choice for our vacation time in Bavaria.
Rooms had wired internet but if you wanted wireless you needed to go to the lobby area. The area was nice to sit and work in and there was also a bar so not a problem. But if you want wireless throughout you will need to consider this.
Fantastic location, rooms were clean and well appointed for people spending most of their time out of doors. Price for room and breakfast could not be better!
Would like to stay longer to take advantage of the MANY amenities on offer.
Spa, location and breakfast
Slow wifi only available in the lobby, staff unhelpful to solve wifi problems and overall lack of what I would consider 4 star luxuries (glassware, coffee maker in room, deadbolt on door)
Wonderful Staff, Tremendous food - beat ever. Nice Spa and location is beautiful.
Great location and staff!
Sofa bed mattress too hard and no in-room WiFi (as advertised)
breakfast was great, spa was good and room comfortable
no Wi-Fi in room, only in reception/bar area
Accommodation was very good, people helpful and friendly, great community and excellent spa options. The church in the abbey next door also beautiful.
Very good quality Good beds Good breakfast Reasonable service Good maintenance Nice facilities
Price a little high for the location
beautiful location , but one needs a car to get there very good food (own dairy products, brewery and bakery)
no wifi in rooms
We stayed 2 nights over new years eve. We had wanted to be in Garmisch but due to our late booking and the ski jump tournament there was nothing in the whole area available. We were very lucky to get this hotel and indeed we were not disappointed. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and fluent in English. The breakfast was great with everything from cereals and fresh fruit, yogurt to a good selection of deli meats and cheese to scrambled eggs and bacon. The room we had was really spacious with a desk, table and sofa as well as very decent size beds and still room to move around. Everything is very clean and well maintained. The facilities include a indoor heated pool, a very pleasant whirlpool, sauna, fitness room and various beauty treatment areas. All in all we had a very nice stay and would certainly recommend this hotel. P.S. We definitely recommend having a vehicle. Ettal is quite a tiny village and you need to be able to get around to the bigger towns like Garmisch and Oberammergau.
One of the best.....
The setting is beautiful and serene. You can hear the tinkling of cow bells. There are spa services available, as well as a pool, hot tub, and sauna. The basilica is a beautiful and inspirational place to attend Mass. The food in the restaurant is delicious and presented beautifully. The dark beer brewed by the monks is the best I have tasted. Nearby, one can visit Schloss Linderhof with a guest pass for the bus provided by the hotel. You might also want to visit Garmisch and Obergammerau from this location.
It is easier to get here by car, but you can reach it by train and a bus or taxi connection.
Large, spacious room. Great pool and hot tub with views to mountains. Cows' bells in the morning. Brew pub atmosphere and food.
Breakfast items could have been of a better quality, though the crosissants were a standout. But it was fine, really.
Beautiful hotel across the street from the Ettal Monastery. Breakfast buffet was included in our stay. The buffet offered a variety of items and was one of the better buffets we had during our 10 days in Germany. Our room was very spacious and clean. It faced the street, but the town was very quiet and peaceful at night.
Wi Fi is only available in the very small lobby. The parking lot was not very large and vehicles were parked any where they could be squeezed into. The front desk closes at 10 PM which includes turning out the lights and locking the front door.(We ran into lots of construction traffic earlier in the day which put us getting there after 10 PM. Luckily, another guest was kind enough to unlock the door for us and we found our key at the front desk.) The shower in our bathroom was rather small. There were no small wash clothes in the room, only larger hand towels were available for showering.
location restaurant staff food
reception staff very poor attitude souless
