The staff was very kind and friendly. Location is perfect - Near to the ku'damm and zoo. u-bahn station is Near. The room was nice and cozy.

My stay at the Castor Hotel was wonderful! I came to Berlin for a concert at the Urania, so the location was perfect, but it’s a perfect location for so many other things too. And very quiet considering it’s so close to a main street. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable, and I made use of the free tea and coffee with the lovely pot that heats up water so fast a lot. Nice flat-screen TV, and I had a lovely view from my window where I could see down two side streets. The shower was fabulous! Very hot water and a removable shower head. Most of all, I would like to comment about the staff. They are so helpful, and I will give an instance. I bought a huge bouquet of very long stemmed roses for the concert (I was going to try to prop them up in some water in one of the trash buckets), and within minutes, a nice woman was at the door with a very large heavy vase, that fit the flowers perfectly. It’s touches like that, that make a hotel special. They are all charming, attractive, and speak English. It was a great week from home, and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Good value for money in a good location. The room was comfortable enough and had free Internet, which nowdays is very necessary.

I didn't like the fact that the key must be dropped at the reception. I personnally like hotels with magnetic keys where you can go in and out as you wish. The internet code must be entered each time you switch off and on again the iPad. Quite boring.

Nice hotel, quiet location

Bit out of the way. Have to walk a fair distance plus catch the subway to go to and from city centre and all of the city's attractions.

The room was by far different than what is actually showed as hotel pictures. Though the hotel is using Mercure hotel chains name, I have learned that it has just changed name and has no relationship with Mercure Hotels so do not let the name fool you. The hotel is supposed to be a four-star hotel. I would not even give it a three-star. There was no air-conditioner in the room, but there was a radiator (central heating) instead. Thus, we were very cold at night. I would never stay in that hotel again and do not suggest you to stay there either. If you have to stay there, at least stay in a bigger room.

An excellent well managed and located hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.

The staff were so lovely, couldn't have been more accommodating. The location of the hotel is great if you're gay - right in the middle of a huge gay area.. Pro dominantly male but a few lesbians can be spotted. The hotel itself is boutique, very lovely, great value for money. Don't be fooled by any bad reviews.

Fantastic generous breakfast (extra charge ) Fresh fruit in reception area for the taking. Free newspapers also in reception area. Easy access from freeway (we used a map ) Within 5 minutes walking from the largest department store in Germany(Ka De We) and 2 metro stations.

Well, they had overbooked and wanted me to stay at another place for the night. I found that unacceptable. I was there for the Berlin airshow and I had made my booking months ago. Moving from Hotel to Hotel was not my idea of a good weekend trip. I let them know that that was unacceptable and that they would have to honor their agreement with me. Which they did, and I was appreciative of that. But, the fact they did make the suggestion to spend the night somewhere else discouraged me to book again for my next trip to Berlin.

No dressers/drawers for storage

The great resource for this hotel are the staff (reception, breakfast room, night porter, room cleaning). All know their jobs and do them very well and with a smile that makes you feel welcome. Castor the Vine's location is brilliant. It is very close to a tube (U-bahn) stop (Nollendorf) and not that far from Wittemburg Platz if you are just walking and not laden with luggage. It is close to KaDeWe the department story and Ku'dam one of the big shopping arteries is a walk away. Cafe Einstein is close too so can be a stop for Kaffee und Kuchen on the way back to the hotel after a serious day's shopping or sightseeing. Castor the Vine is in the heart of the gay area of Schoeneberg but it is not a "gay hotel" as such. Guests are a mixed bunch (a good thing) and it is a small friendly base for several days in a great city.

Two people staying in their standard rooms may feel a little cramped but I understand this is a frequent problem in Berlin -- hotel rooms tend to be on the small size. It is not really a problem -- just don't be surprised that you need to co-ordinate moving round the room when you are both in the room. Still that is very much a minor thing. Not really anything the hotel can do about this but the garbage trucks do come along the street at 7 am. Still it was still warm when we were there and so the windows were open and that didn't help. Castor the Vine _is_ an urban hotel in an area that doesn't sleep (that is part of its attraction!) so its unfair to expect rural calm.

The room was small but clean. The staff were friendly.

As it turned 32 degs the room was extremely hot and uncomfortable during the night, the narrow windows opened only slightly so very little air. The location was not great, for a City the hotel was just that bit out of the way of restaurants and nice bars. Some seedy bars surrounding it.
