The fact that you can walk out of the front door of the hotel and be in the centre , with good car parking facilities at the hotel at a fair price this was an excellent location, we also enjoyed excellent food and service in the hotel bistro The cost of the breakfast, for a family of four it would cost almost £60, not good enough for that charge alhough good, we adopted the get up and walk across the road to one of the many cheaper and easy on the budget cafes in the city centre.

Everything you want from a hotel. Polite and helpful staff. Quality room. Pick the right room and you get an undisturbed view of the Porta Nigra. The cost(Euro 16.00) of the breakfast was too high for what you got.

Fabulous view of Porta Nigra, good breakfast service. We had one of the best rooms I guess with lots of extras. Friendly and competent staff. Parking should be free of charge for guests staying just one or 2 nights

View of the Porta Nigra, but that's available to anyone from the street.... Vis à vis restaurant kept us waiting and waiting and waiting.... To serve us mediocre food we had not ordered (after the original order was not available, we accepted sauerkraut only to be given Brussels sprouts). They apologised and slashed our bill, but the lost time will never return... Breakfast very expensive for (less than) mediocre food. When we arrived, the waitresses shouted at us across the restaurant to indicate which table we should use.... unusual approach. Overall poor level of breakfast service. Sound insulation is poor - you hear traffic (even on the 5th floor).

The Superior rooms have a a great view of the Porta Negra. Great for taking pictures of the Porta Negra you could not take otherwise. In spite of a fair bit of traffic passing the hotel during the day & evening you can hardly hear any street sounds with the window closed. There is a power outlet in the safe so you can charge your mobile phone and other electronics while keeping them safely locked away. There is a free Internet PC (with German keyboard) in the lobby. The location of the hotel is excellent: the Porta Negra is the start of the city centre so you walk out of the hotel and under the Porta Negra and you are already in the area which has several of the UNESCO World Heritage sites and quite a few shops, restaurants and bars. The beds are quite hard and the sheets (coverbed/quilt/duvet) are quite small, There is one big window which you can open but you can't open it just a little bit and lock it in that position for some fresh air during the night. The hotel wifi from m3connect is expensive (9 euro/24hrs) and does not work in the lobby. Supposedly it does work in the rooms but that is of no use if you are already in the lobby.

Fabulous location - our room overlooked the Porta Nigra! The main city area was across the street with cafes, shops and restaurants, and tourist sites visited were all within 10 minutes walk. Great sized rooms, clean facilities, great value, friendly and helpful staff throughout! Would recommend to anyone, and would stay again.

It's location right opposite the Porta Nigra and it's proximity to Trier city centre and the historic sights of Trier. The bedroom view of the Porta Nigra was a strong attraction. Some might say that the hotel architecture and decor are a little dateed.

Very comfortable, quiet. We only stayed one night but I would use it again. The staff were very efficient and helpful and spoke excellent english. Buffet breakfast had a very good choice of food and drinks - though price not included in the room and at eur 16 maybe not the cheapest. Parking available just behind the hotel (eur 9.50 per day). Location good - just a short walk into town.

The location directly opposite the Porta Nigra is excellent, unbeatable. Even though it is so close to the city centre, we drove to it easily. Delighted to find that everyone can look at the Porta Nigra from the breakfast room. Breakfast provded an excellent choice and the staff in reception and the dining area were exceptionally helpful. Parking was directly under the hotel and very easy. The city square is about 300 metres away and the hop-on tour buses start from about 100 metres away from the hotel and there are so many interesting places nearby. This was an ideal place to stay in a very historic and exciting city. Can't think of anything we didn't like. We will stay there again if we are ever back in Trier.

Location: it was a short walk from the train station and right across the street from the Porta Nigra and the Tourist Information center. This was a comfortable and well-run business class hotel. We especially liked having a drink in the outdoor seating of the restaurant watching the sun go down on the Roman gate. The pleasant waitress made helpful suggestions that were just right.

Location, ease of parking, size of room, view of the Porta-Nigra from the breakfast room. As the Mercure Hotels are "one step up" from Ibis Hotels, I was quite shocked that there was a charge for the use of a wi fi connection in the room. And the Ibis hotels we stayed in in Poland and Paris didn't charge for this service.
