If your idea of a tight budget, however, is staying in a budget hotel, there are many to choose from in the Kiel city. The hotel in the heart of the city, 0.3m/500m walking distance from the taxi/bus/train stations, and shopping malls everywhere around you. A bit of Internet sleuthing caused me to choose Basic Hotel Ostseehalle for a couple-night getaway. Check-In Arriving on a Thursday evening as the sun set, the receptionist cheerful representative made a pleasant first impression. The main building on Lange Reihe Street, serves as the lobby and check-in was effortless. It is a renovated place, however, a very sanitized version. Wood floors, brick walls, brightly colored area, a lived-in rustic appeal. A completely nit-picky observation, I know, and nothing a few throws and some random chotskies couldn't overcome. You get a free WiFi connection, and a free decent Breakfast. It should also be pointed out that the front desk isn't staffed round-the-clock, however, someone is always available via telephone for emergencies.
The room was SMALL but clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was roomy and clean. Glad that internet was available in the room. The staff was very friendly and breakfast was available and yummy, even towards the end of the breakfast time. I would definitely book at this location again as I preferred the central location to shopping and dining.
There really could have been an elevator. Lugging a 50 lbs. suitcase up three flights of winding stairs was quite exhausting. The towel bar next to the sink was hanging on by a thread and the shower curtain was close to falling off. Some carpet or more insulation would have helped, I heard everything going on next door and in the hall.
Good breakfast. Very kind staff (everyone speak english). Perfect location, close to the central station and city center.
There is no elevator, but the building has only 3 floors, so it's not a big problem (only if you carry something heavy).
-location -clean rooms -friendly service
-breakfast was ok but some fresh fruits or berries would be nice! -The hotel brochure / info mentions that hotel is in quiet street. It is not truth but the hotel is in the city center so some noise is normal (Friday night --> lots of noise and really loud birds etc. Saturday night was ok but wake up was around 5.30-06.00 because of the fleamarket....) It didn't disturb me or my family but for information for those who cannot sleep if there are some noise.
good location - nearby park, promenade, shops, children's playground!
no air conditioner
Really good breakfast.
No shampoo and no shower gel. Not even at the reception. It would have been nice to know before the travel.
easy to find, very interesting neighborhood, good food options and a great breadfast
some street noise, but really not bad
The location is great, the room is very clean, the workers are helpful
There is no elevator , my room was on the third floor and coming with suitcase was very difficult to take it to the room. The size of the room is vey small, there are things that were broken in the bathroom. The breakfast was too basic.
Value for money
