excellent and classic stay in castle
very difficult to find a way of driving in the night toward the hill of castle. special and kind attention must be guided to go up to the front gate of the castle hotel, escaping normal navigators' short cut of difficulties.
This castle hotel lived up to my expectations! The food was delicious and the view from the rooftop is breathtaking. Our room was beautifully decorated and very spacious. The view from our room was exceptional as well. The beds were very comfortable. We were traveling with a 3 and 5 year old so I was worried we would be treated poorly because of it... but I did not feel any discrimination at all. The staff was lovely and friendly.
We delighted in observing river traffic from our castle perch above the locks. The window screen in the breakfast salon allows for cool, mountain air without insects. We appreciate saving energy by curtailing airconditioning.
Perhaps additional screens in dorm windows assist natural temperature control.
The location was excellent and that is the reason I would recommend it to other people. The food was good.
The reception we received on arrival was cold. We were not in the main castle but we had little help from staff in finding our room. It might be helpful if they put the numbers on the outside of the building as well as the name of the building or maybe the staff would be kind enough to tell you what the name of the building is instead of letting you guess!
Great location in Neckar Valley close to Heidleberg. Fantastic building. Friendly and very helpful staff. Good value.
Location was stunning. Breakfast and staff were good.
No information on the castle, facilities or town in the room or hotel. No lounge. Room was in an outbuilding down many outdoors steps. Reception was unhelpful and curt. Other couple staying had the same experience. We are fit but the number of steps from room to dinning room could be a problem for some.
It was an excellent meal and the ambiance of the Castle was great. If you are looking for "nostalgia" and ambience over all the little creature comforts like WiFi and AC this is the place for you. Sceanery and views were amazing.
WiFi wasn't very good.
Lovely dining room and superb terrace. Willingness to overcome problems.
Originally we were booked into a separate building, which as we are partially disabled was unfortunate, but they moved us. Hotel closed one day, so had to eat out (but they need a day off).
Setting excellent, breakfast included and very good, and watching the lock on the river was really interesting.
Initial staff contact was a little cold and we had a hard time finding the building we were staying in, but the dinner waitress was very nice. There is a bit of a walk (with hills/stairs) from parking to the rooms.
The location afforded excellent elevated views of the town and river, the food was good the room clean and comfortable and the staff good if somewhat overworked.
Panoramic views of the town and river from the terrace. Scenic castle ruins.
We didn't get to stay in the actual castle itself but in a separate newer building below the castle but within the castle grounds. I think this should be made clear at the time of booking so guests understand exactly what they are booking.
Really good restaurant with a high level of presentation and flavour in the dishes that we had. The big male waiter was a delight and very good at his job.
The young female waitress that we had was not very good. Possibly some communication issues did not help.
1,There should have had information of wifi in the room. I called the reception for password but they left earlier and I could not log on until the next morning.
No reading lights in bedroom Several halogen bulbs kaput No bath, only shower
Amazing food. Comfortable bedroom, slightly dated and smelt a bit of grandmother's house
Very few people for dinner. Rather too formal dining room
It's beautiful and peaceful, with trekking/jogging tracks just nearby. Food was excellent.
The Wi-fi didn't really work, at least the instructions we received were unsufficient.
It is a real castle with a nice location overlooking the town and river. The tower was open and one could climb up to check it out. Breakfast was decent.
It was a little warm in the room and restaurant but all the windows were closed in the restaurant. The restaurant atmosphere was a little strange. It is a little too formal and it felt like a crypt.
The food was fantastic
This hotel is in a fantastic setting high above the town with great views from the terrace. The restaurant serves high-quality, innovative food.
We were in the annexe which requires walking up a lot of stairs to the main building where meals are served. The wifi did not work in this section and although we reported it, there was no action taken. Although the staff were friendly, they were very busy and it was hard to locate people to check in and have enquiries answered.
I love this place and have stayed 3 times. It would not be suitable for someone who is not physically fit as it is on the side of a mountain and requires walking up and down alot. I know that I will return. Hirschhorn is a wonderful place to stay and with the local train it is only 30 minutes from Heidelberg.
Location: stunning, like a set from 'Parsifal'. Kind, informal welcome. Good breakfast on panoramic terrace.
Restaurant closed on Monday nights, so we weren't able to try it out. However, we were recommended an excellent option in the town below.
