So, it seems that we were just a little far from the Hbf, via our tired feet, but could have taken a tram from there to a block or less from the doors to this hotel. I think we were actually a shad closer to the bridges and Alt Stadt. Everything was more expensive in Heidelberg than in just about any of the other towns we stayed in in West Germany plus no breakfast included. That said, this was one of the more affordable options that came up anywhere close the Hbf that we could find when searching online, so I think I blame the particulars of staying in Heidelberg than the Hotel itself. It made it seem just a bit pricey and the food there was pricier too, plus the Schloss had guided tours - only way to see interior of Schloss - with a guide who spoke perfect English with us but then advised that the tour would be given in German only but that a printed in English Guide was available. I asked if there were tours in English before I purchased the tickets, but the lady at the cash register did not understand me. They did cheerfully refund the admission fees for us both. It kind of seems like Heidelberg is worth seeing for a day, but not a very good bargain overall for food and hotel stays. What neat, but slightly expensive college town. Lots going on, including some kind of marathon run and punting boat races on the river that Sunday morning. However, most shops were closed that Sunday.
The room was a little small, but at least we were only up one flight of stairs and not two and came to learn the next morning that there was an elevator. The breakfast was pretty good, but 7.5 Euros per head extra - a detail that I missed because almost all others that we stayed at had that included, yet possibly worth the 7.5 each at that. The lady at the front desk went out of her way to keep our luggage for us until later than usual and to point out sights at the front desk. The younger lady at the buffet spoke perfect English and the lady at the front desk spoke pretty good English too. Each bed had a working, bright light, room was just big enough, bathroom was plenty big enough.
