I recommend this hotel, you can't compete with the warm family welcome you receive and the charming nature of the hotel. Parking is available at the back of the hotel (secure) and is free. Breakfast is amazing and so delicious and fresh. The location is excellent, right near the main square. Walter is more than happy to recommend activities and show you the way on a map. He suggested we walk through the valley and it was beautiful. Don't miss the night watchman tour, it is the best! There is no Internet, but you honestly don't need it! Rothenberg is full of things to do and your time is much better spent outdoors ;)

I liked everything about Hotel Spitzweg. The owner, Herr Hocher, is a most genial man, extremely interesting, and he obviously cares about his guests happiness and well being. The accommodations were spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and the common areas are about as evocative of place-- in a very good way-- as anywhere could be. The breakfast was superb, everyday a huge plate of fruit, cheese, meats, breads, sweets is placed in front of you in the exquisitely charming breakfast room. The first day I couldn't believe it was just for the two of us, it was so much, but very good to start the day and keep you energized for 5 or 6 hours while you are out sightseeing. The location is very close to the Rodentor where access to the top of the city walls is up a flight of stairs-- very easy. And by all means, walk the city walls, either early in the day or before sunset, it is special. The bed was perfect, the room spacious and beautifully decorated, the bathroom was large and well designed, with a window looking out onto trees and nearby quaint houses. Overall I give it a 10, and have to say it was tied for the best place we stayed on our 36 night trip to Europe. If you do go, try to strike up a conversation with Herr Hocher, you will enjoy it very much, and learn a lot, too.

Perfect location in a picture-perfect town ! Private car park at the location makes this hotel perfect for travelers with a rental car. Host/owners make you feel like you are friends, staying in their home...which you are! A big and beautiful breakfast is served in the adorable large dining room. Meander the town day and night, then find your way back to the cozy rooms at Hotel Spitzweg for a peaceful slumber! Highly recommended by me (one who researches to the max before I decide on a place to stay).

Our stay at Hotel Spitzweg was the defining part of our visit to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The kindness and hospitality of our hosts set the tone for the whole visit. Our room was spotlessly clean, comfortable, decorated beautifully in Old World German style (as we would imagine, anyway) with a sparkling modern bathroom. The hotel was very convenient for shopping and visiting the city. Breakfast was great! We have been in some nice places, with great management. This is our favorite, so far, anywhere.

Spending the night in a 500 year old in is an experience in itself. The inn was spotless with all the charm. The owner is interesting, happy, and helpful when making day plans. Follow his instruction for a good countryside day trip out of Rothenburg, if you have a car. We did all he said to do and it was perfect. He also serves you an excellent breakfast each morning in a quaint breakfast room. The location is perfect, inside the walled city, with free parking in the back.

A wonderful, quaint hotel in the medieval town of Rothenburg o.d.t. The owner Herr Hocher makes everyone feel welcome and serves up a very delicious breakfast. My husband and I stayed for three nights and enjoyed every minute. Rothenburg and this hotel are a must see if one is travelling in Germany.

Friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, free parking, and a great breakfast! The bathroom shower head was tricky to use in a bathtub without a shower curtain, but having the bathtub was great.

Our stay at Hotel Spitzweg was wonderful. The room was very comfortable, the breakfast was very good and the owner, Walter, was a delight to talk with over our meal. He made staying here feel like staying at home. What a treat to be here at the beginning of the Christmas holiday season. The town was dressed to impress and that it did . . . impressed!

“The service at the Klosterstuble was excellent! The owner (Erika) was very accommodating and informative -- she knew exactly what was available and not, who to talk to where, and gave us a wonderful recommendation for dinner where we could mingle with the locals. We were traveling with an infant, and she went to extra effort to ensure we had everything we needed. The hotel is amazing, the perfect mix of antique with modern, and our room was clean and comfortable. Hands down, this was an awesome hotel that I would recommend to anyone and plan to visit again with friends and family!” Maria, Apo |
