Hotel Barleben is a rather old hotel, in a formerly nice little villa (it is a lot smaller than what it looks like on the pictures, which could do with some serious refurbishments. For some reason they have cluttered their -otherwise beautiful- garden with loads of tents, sheds and other rubbish, which really ruins the view from the hotel towards the lake. It’s right at the lake, couldn’t be better in that sense, but apart from that, a lot could be improved. To start with the service! Our room was ok, but underneath the bed a fine collection of the previous visitors’ rubbish could be found. The breakfast is rather expensive for what you get. When checking out we were told we had to pay an extra 70€ for our little daughter, although we had booked it for 3 via booking.com. When picking up the luggage later in the afternoon, the owner all of a sudden started claiming she had ruined the extra folding bed they had put in the room, which was not only untrue, but it’s quite ridiculous to demand people to pay –which we didn’t- for damaging a bed –even if they would have been the culprits- in a hotel. All in all: if you love (a lot of) stuffed animals in every corner of your hotel and you’re looking for an overpriced German version of Fawlty Towers, then this hotel is worth a visit.
