Loved Villa Hugel. The staff were wonderful and spoke great English. The breakfasts were amazing and even offered sparkling wine which was a great touch. I also loved the pool, and managed to swim when it was completely empty (7.00 am). It was a great place and I would love to visit it again in the summer and take advantage of the terrace. It was a bit further out of town than I had expected, but this probably felt longer because the weather was bad. The sauna was only open from 3.00pm until 10.00pm which was a shame as I would have liked to have used it in the morning before breakfast, and it did not have a clock or a temperature gauge which I prefer. |

If you need to stay in the Trier (Germany) area then this hotel should be at the top of your list for consideration. This is a family owned hotel which offers the facilities of a large chain hotel but with the attention to detail and special little touches that only a family business can offer. The staff are always warm and friendly and clearly chosen to compliment the hotels atmosphere and character. The hotel has plenty of free parking spaces. However, you can secure your car in one of their private garages (at a minimal cost), but I have to say the hotel although close to the city of Trier is located in a secluded and quiet area. I had absolutely no concerns about parking my car in the normal parking area which is clearly overlooked by the hotel reception. As you enter the hotel, the first impression is of cleanliness and efficiency followed with a very warm reception by the hotel staff. We had arrived several hours early (lucky with the traffic) and were made to feel very welcome; in fact we were offered tea and coffee on their balcony patio which has a wonderful view of the local area. By the time we had finished our drinks our room had been prepared and was available for us. The room was extremely clean and very comfortable with the usual toiletries etc. In addition, on the table there was a wicker basket with 2 large towels for the swimming pool and sauna area. We were shown around the pool area by the receptionist who spoke excellent English; the pool is open from very early in the morning to late at night. If you forget your swimsuit, the hotel has a range of inexpensive swimwear available so that there is no need to miss out; you can also buy slippers and rent a dressing gown. The pool is not huge but it is large enough to swim a reasonable distance or just to relax in. The whole pool and sauna area is immaculately clean, as you would expect, but it also has those special little touches: candles, comfortable seats and loungers etc. |
