the room we got had a bad smell of sewage, we changed the room to get one without a smell but with thick dust on the night table and phone..the bathroom was also not the cleanest..very poor conditions, I believe the 5 stars were given in 1990 when they opened and have never been re-evaluated. Everything in there seems to be from 1990, the bed, the sheets, the furniture. Bad quality for money. It even put us off going to the 2 star Michelin restaurant, which is actually only 1 Michelin star...or who knows anymore..never again!

Really nice hotel and room we stayed in. There was access to a terrace that had 360 degree views of Cologne. Very clean and tidy.

When we booked the room it was meant to include free Wifi and mini bar. On check out the Hotel tried to charge us for the Wifi and what we had consumed in the mini bar. Also they did not want to honour the rate that we booked on booking.com and tried to charged us €247.20 instead of the correct rate of €234.32. After a long discussion they had partially refunded the difference (€7.98). A disappointing end to a lovely hotel stay. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the Cathedral and other tourist attractions. Probably more suited to Business people rather than travellers.

The hotel is (obviously) built inside an old brick water tower that is located on the highest piece of ground in the area - the reception/lobby area in particular is an architectural marvel. The concierge (Patrick) was very welcoming and looked after our arrival and city orientation very well. The bathroom in this hotel is one of those rare ones with a proper shower screen that allows you to shower without soaking the floor - nice to finally find a hotel that gets this most basic thing right!

A big disappointment that I believe will be significant for most travellers is that the wireless internet is charged additionally on a per hour basis. The 'business center' (single computer around the corner from reception) was incredibly slow - virtually unusable. I cannot comment on the speed of the wireless connection as we didn't mortgage ourselves to pay for it, but if it was also that slow I would have been most unhappy. Given the design merit of the building, the interior design of our room was very disappointing - 'basic and dull' is the best way I can describe it...perhaps the interior designer was a Puritan monk...the room fittings such as light switches are really showing their age too (I think they date from the late 1980s). The bed was also rather short. The staff, though friendly, just were not as well trained as we had experienced in the Sofitel we had stayed in the night before.

Lovely building. Close to centre but not right in it. Opposite a fabulous public pool & near L'accento italian restaurant which we love. It is unique and we like that.

Its pricey - € 260 for a Junior Suite excluding bfast. And bfast at € 25 each we didnt do as its a bit steep. The fitness room is very limited. Top floor bar/restaurant which we love to go to was closed.

First class service and attention. All the staff we met were excellent. Beautiful room. The restaurant, the service and of course the food The overall ambience of the place. A real gem of a hotel for that special occasion. The free minibar was a very nice touch not seen often but very appreciated. The flowers in the room and cake for my wifes birthday.

€12 for water in the restaurant and €25 for parking on top of the rate.

Restaurant facilities. One restaurant has to be booked 2 months in advance, the other shuts on Saturday! Might be acceptable if warned and the room service or bar menu were adéquate: they see not.

We really enjoyed staying in this hotel ! Wonderful building, well situated, nice room, gentle and helpful staff ! Breakfast was lovely, too ! We should love to stay there again, soon !

The location, it was great for the Christmas markets and shopping. The breakfast was wonderful, loved the prosecco!

The bathroom was rather "tired". Hated the fact that the bar was divided between non smoking and smoking, something we are so not used to anymore!

Nice wiev and kithen

A beautiful building within 5 - 10 minute walk of the city centre and ideal for Christmas markets with the furthest of the 5 markets only a 15 minute walk away. The views from the roof top viewing gallery were stunning and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Very convenient underground parking but was a little pricey at €25 a day(24hrs). Room had some cosmetic issues, marks on the wall for example, re-wallpapering could easily resolve this. The television channels in English were news channels so perhaps a dvd player could supplement this for those who wish to relax on an evening. These are minor complaints so do not let it put you off a lovely hotel.

No tea/coffee in room. Really missed early morning coffee.

Great breakfast, fantastic 2 Michelin Star restaurant, great price, wonderful service. Stylish place.

No aircon, not a problem in winter but definitely in summer. Although they will sort that out by April 2013 according to staff. Towels a bit flimsy for a 5 star.

Everything was brilliant, location, price and the room.

Parking at the Hotel's car was expensive at €25.

Very special location. The former watertower has been made into a beautyfully designed and very comfortable hotel.

My purpose for visiting the hotel was for both business and a personal break. I found the level of service to be excellent, being addressed by name would certainly indicate this. Would I use the hotel in May when I intend visiting INTERZUM next May yes even though the locating is not the most convenient, being a designer I enjoyed the architecture, spa facitity and service.

It seems to me that its time to paint the walls in rooms. Need some fit out works. You can feel that it's not fresh one.

Good value for money, excellent location, very special hotel

We really had problems on the first night with reseva. While giving us a smaller room (and not hired as a suite) there was no compensation from the hotel. Outside this disappointment, the hotel is very nice.

Despite the disappointment, all have been very helpful to solve the problem.
